Right now I can't get online from my computer. I'm using the computer in the other room. Ever since I got this linksys router setup I am having trouble with Renewing my IP Address. Happens about once a week were I have to go up in the attic, unplug the modem and router for a few seconds, plug it back in and it works. Tonight it's not working though.

Does anyone know anyway to fix this problem, be it setting a static IP address or other means. I'm getting sick and tired of this bullshit. My compaq router I had never gave me this problem.

My set up is

DSL
Phone Line --> Modem --> Linksys Router --> Linksys 8 port hub/switch -- > My computer and xbox360.

I don't know if its the switch causing the problems or what. But it is really getting on my nerves right now and it has dont this several times. If anyone has a solution to this please I need it.

Have you tried, disabling/enabling your NIC a few times before resetting the router?
Sometimes that works for me.....alsoo, you could just configure your machine to use a static IP, that way you don't have to worry with DHCP issues.

This is actually a problem I have noticed with linksys routers. Somtimes they just don't want to let go...

Mine included. For me, a firmware upgrade fixed the problem...For my friend that has the Linksys WRT54g version 5 hardware....He has the problem more frequently than any other hardware verison I have seen. I believe it is also windows XP because restarting the system makes it happy again.

So....It might be in the wireless card driver. Update that if possible....Windows XP SP2 also fixes many wireless issues if you are not using it already.

Agreed.

Setting up a static IP will give you peice of mind and will allow for you to use port forwarding , if needed, without worry. This is actually what I did with my WRT54G Version 2.2 linksys and have not noticed a problem. Therefore my simmilar problem was resolved someone inbetween A fireware upgrade, a driver upgrade to my wireless card, and my chaning to a aswsigned static IP by the router.

Here is a nice little guide.

Please note, you can find your DNS server address by just going in your browser and typing in "for linksys setup" 192.168.1.1, then hit "ENTER". Password is "admin", leave the username blank. The main and admin pages will show you DNS, and the "192.168.1.1" is where the router is on the network and will be used for the "Default Gateway" number when configuring windows.

Yeah I need to set a static IP address I guess. But I think i'm going to get rid of the router before too long when I get my laptop and get a Wireless Router, probably D-Link.

I did get a firmware upgrade for the router itself a while back. But the router have now is not wireless. I guess the only solution would really to be the static IP. I finally got it to work last night (wouldn't let me access the router from the comp in my room). I got on the other comp and got into the router settings and just did a DHCP Release and Renew. Then it seemed to work fine. But this happens way more then it should.
