I believe it had a video of a footballer being tackled and all the different variables based on how the AI reacts, I can't remember the name of the technology though

Funny you should mention...

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/702/702389p1.html

And this is called Euphoria, which is different from Endorphin. Same company (naturalmotion) but Euphoria deals with real-time animation, whereas Endorphin is more akin to a synthetic motion capture (ie it isnt dynamic within a game environment).

I seem to remember when Endorphin was a topic on this forum awhile ago I made a guess that eventually we'd see a real-time application of this technology, but somebody shot me down saying it would be too taxing/impractical to implement. I cant remember who, but whoever it was if you're still reading... I told ya so. ;)

Again, those games used the off-line Endorphin tool for synthesis of canned animations. Euphoria is NaturalMotion's new tool for real-time procedural animation. Different beasts.

Ah, okay. The source I read gave no details, just said they used them. However it makes sense, I didn't think PS2 would be able to handle it in real time

Read this IGN article on the new Indiana Jones together with the euphoria tool. Its sounds like this tool is seriously going to improve realism in games in the future and make them truly 'next gen'.

Download the videos to see it in action. The videos arent from Indiana Jones as that is in production, but they are from euphoria and give a glimpse of what it is capable of...sweet. I can certainly see Rugby and Madden games being able to use this to great effect in the future.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt WRONG!!!!

Those videos aren't from Euphoria. They are from the non-realtime Endorphin toolset. Don't mistake those videos with Euphoria, even if they are a representation of natural motion. The end result of Euphoria might not look like that. So let's not point people in the wrong direction and raise their expectations off the roof. We have plenty of people on the board that get upset when their skyscraper expectations aren't met. So lets be careful.

Read the Indiana Jones IGN article, It has the same videos from your link but it clearly states where the videos are from, Endorphin (not Euphoria).

That Euphoria stuff sounds amazing. I can't wait to see that in action, and I hope lots of people adopt this. I'd love to see something like this in a next-gen God of War where enemies reacted realistically to how the Blades of Chaos will come at them, and when they get tossed in the air they'll do something like that too. Pretty much any action game can benefit from technology like this :-D

Chill out dude. I did read all of the article, but did not pick up on their being two different tools. My fault totally. Sorry guys.

However most of what is talked about in the article is from videos/real-time footage of the Indiana Jones game. The stuff talked about sounds pretty impressive and I dont really see how it couldn't match up to what is shown in the videos. Maybe graphically it couldn't, maybe, but as for the processing power required to create such lifelike models/simulations, I should have thought the PS3 will be capable...after all whats the point of simplifing such an impressive/capable system just so that it can work on a console and be no better than current ragdoll technology.

As for the advert you talk about cliffbo, that can be seen in the second video on IGN. Very clever.

Just to make this clear for everyone:
-euphoria is a run-time animation technology developed by NaturalMotion. It is not an AI program, it's an animation technology that allows for physically accurate behaviors.
-endorphin is a non-run-time product made by NaturalMotion. It is a dynamic motion synthesis program.

The key difference being that one is run/real-time, and the other is not.
