Its David Kirk, nVidias chief Engineer and stealth "PR bitch" :angelgrin

I saw this on XBit and B3D, its general talk about "G80/Unified or not kind of talk" in response i assume to some ATI mumbojumbo, you should know how the companys works by now. :rocket:

Anyway what catch my eye was the hinglighted bit although i think its interesting i any case. It probably doesnt mean anything but maybe it could give some restless souls some butterflys in the belly.

D. Kirk: The cost (of US) is huge. For example,(an updated architecture of) G71 can support "Unified" programming model, but (even in that case) execution is not Unified. The performance/mm^2 (die size) of G71 is very high. On the other hand, The performance/mm^2 of Xbox 360 GPU (with Unified-Shader) (Xenos) is lower. Which do you prefer?

I don't know if that could mean anything at all for RSX, but now you're fueling version's fantasies, for sure.

Yes i know, its time for some fun!
He is pointing to G80 IMO of course and that he feels unified is not just there yet for nVidia.

For what its worth for version he is saying that Xenos the "powa"""HULK unified cure for all the worlds diseases" is less effective per mm2 than a not unified part. :stirpot:

I hope everyone understands my intention is to spray water on the fire that the Unified vs not Unified and that there really is no wrong or right, ie a GPU cant be judged by this.

This is really to try to inform some members *click* and still have some fun!

I think what Kirk is trying to say is that he could glue a US interface upon the G71, and it would not change the underlying architecure. This would definitely not make sense to add on the RSX, since there is no need to support the graphics model of next generation Windows.

Lean and mean is the way to go, few transistors and lots of performance, the G71 die is incredibly small, even the die-hard ATI fans are admitting that. I am dying to know what the RSX really will look like, we've got a few hints of some differences concerning threading in the shader pipes, there will probably be some more goodies.
