View Full Version : Codename Panzer slated for PS3
10Tacle Studios is making a name for itself in this emerging time for next-generation games. They are already hard at work in bringing Elveon to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Now they’ve snagged up Codename Panzer from Hungarian developer Stormregion. The game will land itself on the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, and Nintendo DS.

if it's another WW2 game (judging from the name) I am not interested.

When I first read the title I thought "Panzer Dragoon"!! Then I read the title again and realised it was just Panzer as in a WWII german rocket launcher.

Uhm, Codename: Panzers is actually an RTS. Interesting to see if this genre will eventually get any interest on the nexgen consoles.

Panzer is a tiger in German, right? Some kind of animal I thought :-p
okay maybe not, I coulda swore it was but I looked it up and I was wrong. Mock me as you feel necessary, especially since I took German for 4 years and lived there for 6 months

Panzer means just tank. Tiger is tiger also in German :)
You usually see mixups for panzer and panther because Wehrmacht used Jagdpanzer, Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger names for their tank types in WW2. Jagd means something like "hunting" -> hunting tank, hunting panther and so on.
Usually "to hunt" is "zu jagen", so Jägermeister means "hunt master". Jäger = jaeger, prolly also yager / yeager.
Here in Finland there is an army class called "Jääkäri" who are traditionally specialized in "forest warfare" so to say :)

Same thought I had. Honestly, will FPS' ever move away from WW2? It almost seems like a crutch when they can't come up with an original story/setting.

there is a German tank called Panzer along with another German model called Tiger. :)

when I read that I thought about a WW2 game with a compound name including 'Panzer' in it that came out a couple of years ago on PC. I think it was a RTS. I can't remember its name. maybe it was just Panzers.

No guys.
Panzer means Armour in German. Its use as a general name for a tank comes from Panzerwagon (Armoured car), which is itself a shortened version of the tanks first name which was something like 100 letters long. Yes, the Germans sometimes get a bit carried away with noun concatination:laugh:
Anyways, the Germans numbered their tank models (Panzers 1 - 4), until midway through WW2, when they started nameing the models as well (Tiger, Panther, Tiger 2, Hetzer). The British actually gave the Tiger 2 the name its most known as, the Royal Tiger, or King Tiger.
As well, in order to simplify production, sub-versions of these tanks with a fixed gun embeded into the hull were produced. These models were named with the prefix Jagd (hunter), hence Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger.
Hope that helps.

I also thought that the rocket launchers or anti tank launchers were called Panzer Shreck or something.

yes shreck means terror(i believe) so "tank/armoured terror" is only fighting for such a weapon.......

Panzerwagon (Armoured car)
Actually it would be Panzerwagen in German.
But as you said it's just called Panzer in normal language. You won't find animal armour references by Googling panzer, just tanks and panzer dragoon Orta links :)
Seemingly this Hetzer actually was Jagdpanzer 38.
Now that we got to tank subject I would love to have a tank game for PS3, probably not a pure simulation but I wouldn't either like to play any recycled MoH type tank arcade moments... Now that there is plenty of horsepower under the graphical hood of Playstation 3 I wonder if the game developers feel the need for such game.
I know I would buy one copy if such game was created :)

I've had it up to HERE with world war 2.
Industry needs to get off its ass and use its imagination.
there was a cute looking tank game on PS1. the one where the tank wore different costumes like a cowboy and what not. lol
I never played the game myself but all the reviewers liked it and it seemed fun.
there was that Ghost in the Shell game on PS1 as well that was in tanks. I also remember playing a tank game on PS1 that was great. it was futuristic and had very different model designs and charactaristics. I liked that game. sadly, I don't remember the names of these old entries.

a tank game doesn't have to be in a WW2 setting. the games I mentioned are all futuristic. :)

I remember that ps1 GTS game. That was fun, but hard, as I was just a child with baby gamer hands, and wasn't hardcore enough back then.
that what made you what you are today!

I think I remember what you are talking about, I played a demo of a game with an almost cartoony looking tank that was yellow, and the only enemys I remember where these huge laser turrets, if I remember right it was a very late PS1 game. Good demo, but really short and I didn't want the game bad enough to buy it.
I that was the one where you foght on Mars, or another alien planet. that game used all the buttons of the pad- and I mean ALL.
I finished the game and I never incountered anything with such complex controls. you had to use all the shoulder buttons at the same time, with the two analogus and the face buttons- simultaneously! man, that was fun and intense! I felt like the human octopus.

on a funny side not i saw a t-shirt the other day that sayed: "In WWII no one actualy died... they just retured to there spawn point."
