I know there are some AFI fans on the board, so I wanted to post that AFI has a new single out called Miss Murder. Their new album finally has a release date, which is June 6. I know I'm biased because they're my favorite band, but I just love this new song to death. Davey described that the album would sound like cold pop, and that's what this song sounds like, cold dark pop. It's got 80's influences, and one part reminds me of Depeche Mode. The beginning of the song has a nice rockabilly kind of beat to it. Throughout the song, there are electronic elements that are quite subtle and towards the end of the song, there's an awesome breakdown that brings you back to older AFI with great screaming. It is a very poppy song, but along the lines of The Cure and Depeche Mode pop.

The "Hey!"s throughout the song are AFI fans. AFI chose 15 fans from the Despair faction to do chants and some things for the new album. I think it's really awesome that die hard fans got to be on the new single.

One of the main reasons I'm going to Warped this year.
I think the new song isn't fantastic, but it's pretty good.
Can't wait for the album. :)

It doesnt sound that bad and Davey's vocals sound better in this(as if they weren't already great to begin with). But having only listened to Sing the Sorrow and The Art of Drowing, it doesn't sound too much like them, i dont know, its too soft and slow maybe, i can't put my fingure on it. June 6th though, i will definetly be buying this album however.

All of their CD's sound different from each other except Very Proud of You and Answer That and Stay Fashionable. Those two CD's were just your run of the mill punk. The rest of their CDs have a different sound to them, which is why I love them so damn much. They evolve and aren't stagnant boring music.

Very Proud Of Ya is still their best cd to me. I did like Black sails and art of drowning, but sing the sorrow was only ok to me. This new style they have just doesn't sound good to me. Davey is one of the nicest people i have met, and i will continue to support them by going and watching them and buy their music. I just don't have the same outlook on them as i used to. The best show i ever saw them at was in san antonio about 7 or 8 years ago. It should be interesting to see them at warped tour since the last time i saw them on warped tour they were pretty sloppy.

I like bands that change their sound, especially a band like AFI, who've proven that they have better chops than pretty much every band they're copmpared to, and then mellow out a bit.

Sure every band they are compared to they are better than by a longshot. But to me i don't like depeche mode, the cure or any of davey's influences so thats easy.

Just as long as they don't mellow out as bad as green day has over the years.

Green Day didn't mellow out-- they sold out.

They are like 10 years past selling out. But even insomniac and nimrod had a couple of decent songs. Anything they do now is just utter garbage or can be used to put people to sleep. They can stick to their kidz bopz soundtracks

I don't get it. It's not the band's fault that people like them, but because other people like them... they're selling out? You're saying that Wake Me Up When September Ends wasn't as heartfelt and beautiful as songs come? Most of you people still eat at McDonald's. Ooohh... does that make you a conformist in that regard too?

As for AFI... I have Sing The Sorrow and a few songs from Very Proud of Ya and Art Of Drowning. <3 Them.

Getting new album for sure.

No, becoming a big corporate band who charges $50 to $100 to see them play live in huge arenas is selling out. For a band who came up as a punk band in cali they have gone a long way, but drifted far from what they were. American idiot was one song that really made me cringe, along with the rest of that cd. They should leave the political songs to bands who can actually do them right.

One AFI song that owns all other songs to me, Cruise control

Point taken. I'm oblivious to that sort of crap going on.

American Idiot just... ergh... don't bring it up please...

Ontopic: AFI are my favourite of all the bands they're compared to. Which is a phrase used lightly... there's NO comparing them.

I'm not sure if AFI is even doing the warped tour. They are scheduled to do a tour with Dillinger Escape Plan all summer right now.

There are not many times when i will admit i am wrong about a cd, but this is one time that i was completelly wrong. This cd ranks up there with Very Proud of Ya as one of my favorite afi releases. The cd, well copy, hasn't left my cd player for days. Now i am hyped to see them again live

I like AFI, but I don't think Miss Murder sounded very good. At all.
