Some of these threads stretch so long that we often have multiple postings of news. I don't even bother to look for articles 'cause I know someone with better internet skills will already have it posted here :).

As Phil already said in the Edge article, Cell itself is already in mass production, I guess the actual mass assembly of the console will start to take place in June. ~_~

6/7 Solid months to make sure we don't cry on the launch date.
My conclusion: Only Europe will be slightly under fed their dose of PS3.
I got my £500 ready just in case, now I REALLY can't wait!! It's going to be slow 6 months :(

Lets really hope that the results of these tests are good, the yields are high, and that it allows for a better PS3. Maybe if the yields are really, really good we will have a small chance of having all eight SPEs activated. At least we can hope!
If nothing else, maybe the PS3 will cost a few dollars less.

That seems more likely, but I still say its not gonna be expensive.

All SPE's won't be active, but don't go thinking they are needed. Everything you have seen of PS3 has been running on 6 SPE's, since the OS hogs one. The only benefit of going 65 nm is that it will run cooler and cost less. I found it funny how in the gamespot news article about 360 going to 65 nm all the fanboys were fuming "we early adopters got screwed!" thinking that 65nm meant a more powerful chip. Though they may have got screwed (the bought a 360 in the first place, didn't they? </fanboy> lol) they won't get any better performance out of the new chips than the old ones. Their 360's won't be able to fry and egg any more though... looks like the early adopters will have to find another way to cook their breakfasts.

yeah i will continue to cook egg whit my 360!!:look:

technically, I would say "since one SPE is dedicated to the OS". saying 'hog' gives the impression that it using a whole SPE for it alone wasn't planned.
more importantly, we haven't seen anything- whether tech or game demos- that uses up all the SPEs. the most usage maybe something like 2 or perhaps reaching 3 SPEs.
the majority of the game demos used only the PPE. amazing, I know.
