Quote: Suda Goichi, aka Suda 51, of the studio of Grasshopper development, at the origin of very strange Killer 7 left on GameCube and PlayStation 2, reveals its next title entitled Kurayami envisaged on PlayStation 3. This new play of action and non-linear adventure is inspired by open and the worrying and confused universe of the Czech writer Franz Kafka that Suda Goichi admires much. The player will be thus plunged in a village obscure which it will have to traverse with a torch to reach a castle and to discover his mysteries. Thanks to the power techniques of PlayStation 3, Suda Goichi intends to stress the graphic style (textures, drawings of the characters, decorations, etc.) of Kurayami so that the player can truly feel the darkness and darkness, the concept of the fear will play a very important part in the play. About thirty people work in this moment on this project, the title is intended mainly for a rather adult public. Here first Artworks de Kurayami.

Nice find, mang. Sounds definitely interesting, and I can't wait to see an experienced team using the PS3 for a stylized game like this one.

Totally new IP, stylized gameplay, based on works of Kafka, developed by Grasshopper.

That gets my interest.

Probably huge news for Japan as well. Grasshopper has really developed a huge following in Japan.

Have any of you actually read a book by Franz Kafka?

I really get worried when someone wants make a game and is inspired by Franz Kafka.

This sounds great. Kafkaesque gameworld... sounds fine to this English teacher.

I've read the three novels and most of the short stories.

I felt much the same as you apparently do about Kafka, at first. I wasn't a fan. But seeing and reading Nabokov on Kafka really did a lot for me to take a second look. Kafka is an acquired taste, to be sure.

Having said that, I can see immediately the promise of a game inspired by Kafka or being set in a Kafka-esque world, and I think if done properly, will make for a unique game that even those who have no interest, knowledge of, or even a strong distaste for Kafka, will appreciate.

Am I the only one whose "literary knowledge" of Kafka is from FFVI and nothing else?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v500/EvilTaru/gladtomeetya.gif

well, they aren't making a game based on the man's book. it is only 'inspired' by it. you'd be amazed on what things inspired Kojima while making the MGS series. ;)

I will keep an open mind on this for sure, I always do.

I'm really curious about the "Stalker" game for the same reason, to see what they we'll do about the atmoshpere in Tarkovskijs movie. They are taking good time to finalise it and that may be a good sign (thinking about HL2).
I doubt it we'll go console though.

The idea of a brand new horror IP from an ambitious studio like the one that made Killer7 sounds very promising. Will be looking forward to its progress.
