View Full Version : College Dropout

Well, the unthinkable has happened. I'm considering dropping out this year from College and starting fresh next September. There's a few pieces of coursework that I'm really struggling with, not to mention that there's a teacher that I quite honestly cannot stand. I don't really know how I'm feeling at the moment, on one hand I'm feeling some relief because I don't have to think about coursework 24 hours a day, on the other hand I'll be disapointed because I could have finished pretty soon (about a month) but I'd be working towards failure if you know what I mean.

I don't want to have to go in and worry about coursework everyday just to be told that I've failed, and as it stands the chance of me failing is huge. I failed both a Maths and Finance test, handed a piece of coursework in a whole month late to the Teacher that I simply hate and I've to hand another piece of coursework in this Friday which is hard enough as it is, but I'm still working on the coursework I handed in a month late.

I have however finished quite a lot of coursework, and I'm going to hand in two finished pieces this week, because as far as I know I'll only have to resit the units that I failed in September or even if I do have to resit the whole year I'll have all the work pretty much done. I was also just off the phone to my friend who said that he and three others will give me their coursework.

I'm pretty sure it was a collection of things that got me into this situation now, working for 40 hours a week plus College over Christmas didn't help, being too lazy at times and not wanting to do anything didn't help and handing a piece of coursework in a month late to Satin was really the final nail in the coffin. I've felt too depressed about this situation for too long now and really need to take some time out to regain my thoughts and my intelligence. ;)

Anyway, wish me luck guys, I never thought I'd see the day that this would happen but it has for reasons which are pretty much my fault.

Oh trust me I have it bad but I don't think I am going to fail cause I will finish all my work and hand it in before the end. I already droped out because the last school I went too was horrible and I left. This time around I am better but I think my laziness is catching up with me. I have not attended this one class in awhile cause I have no work to bring. >< I keep doing it but forgeting to save it on my stupid portable drive and after awhile of forgeting I am starting to wonder about myself. >< Trust me it is not fun droping out but stress is a powerfull thing.

Yeah, I mean the amount of stress that I've had to deal with is amazing. I'm surprised that I've actually lasted this long! I'm about to send an e-mail to my course co-ordinator now explaing the situation and what I'm thinking of doing, if anyone is going to give me decent advice, it should be him.

Well I am at a community college so failing a class is pretty much nothing compared to what you maybe going through. If I fail I just have to retake the class sometime in the future. I should of really thought about just not majoring in anything and taking classes for art to build up a portfolio but I kind of did Game Design and Developement. I am hoping I don't fail but I am thinking I might not.

Anyway yeah I understand the stress in this situation. I been there and pretty much they could help but sometimes it does not work. I been stuck in the worst situation when I was in school but i wish I did more. As long as you return you should not have such a problem. Good luck.

Thanks WinterBorn. I think really that my Mum and Dad will be the most disapointed as they're going to look at all the negitive aspects of the situation. My Mum's main concern is that I'm going to be 22 when I eventually go to University, which in all honesty doesn't bother me too much as I have friends who are 23 now and going into Uni.

*sigh*

I don't understand. You have to drop all your classes or just one? I usually drop a class a semester. Usually because I'm really ambitious and bite off more then I can chew (or I just really hate the professor). Nothing wrong with it if you plan to go back.

I am 22 lol... I am going to a college and still have not figured my exact paith on what to do. I am lost a little but hey we are young and most people I know don't start untill they are 30 years old and most who do start young tend to be lucky. I am hoping atleast to be done everything by 26 and then hoping to start from there.

Trust me stress is not fun but ussually taking a leave helps a lot.

There's a few pieces of coursework that I'll not get finished when they're supposed to be finished, which means that I'll have failed my whole second year. Because I'm aware of this, I think it makes more sence to start fresh in September with a better plan of attack. ;)

Sorry to hear about your stressful situation bro. I think you are doing the right think talking to your course advisor and such. Looks like you can just slavage what you can and then get a head start on the refresh. Good bro, and keep us informed with whats going on.

I understand how you feel. Working 40 hours and going to college is tough.

I'm 25 and I only have a few semesters of college under my belt...dont' feel bad FATS.
What are you studying - major? Male Homosexualtiy? j/k IF you honestly think you'll do better by starting fresh next semester/yera then by all means do it, no one can tell you otherwise, becasue they aren't you. Some might not understand, but you don't have to make everyvbody understand your doing wahts best for you. I hope you finish with good grades next time though. I have been giving my older brother a hard tiem becuase he is continually going and stopping and going and stopping, but that is his choice......

Anywho, school sucks! Skip class and go to you favorite hangout. The Blue Oyster Bar.

I was going to school for computer programming starting July last year. Then this last January, we started getting into mainframe programming, which is just stupid. So I quit with that and now I'm happily studying as a broadcast major with a radio show twice a week.

Lmao, I haven't been to the Blue Oyster Bar in ages! Good times. Yeah, well I still have time to think about it and see what my course co-ordinator thinks. I'm doing an HND (Higher National Diploma) in Business Information Technology and it generally sucks and there's an awful lot of stuff in it I pretty much hate, but it's a good stepping stone to get into University.

You see you need at least three A-levels to get into University, I only have two (Good grades though) so that's why I went the HND route, which is two years and when that's complete you start university.

But I'll let you lot know what's going to happen when I find out some more! Thanks everyone.

I've thought about dropping out of sixth form many a times. But i just think, once i get through this shit. I can be a student for 5 years at uni.
Hey, if its going to get you into uni. Then it'll pay off with the chance of a better job prospect.

There's nothing wrong with leaving during a semester & taking some time off. More people do it than you think.. and I think more people SHOULD do it.
I'm sure everything will work out for you.. don't let yourself get too depressed over it: it's only college. You'll be fine! :)

Yeah not too bad I dropped a course last quarter and the only thing the rents and me were concerned about was how it would effect my scholarships as i dropped below full time.

Well I just recieved a text from my mate telling me that I'm a retard for thinking of quiting now. He's told me to go in tomorrow and speak to a few people, which I'm going to do, so fingers crossed but I'll remain pessimistic for now! ;)

Hey, I'm not sure if you want my advice or not, but really man, consider everything you do from this point on very, very carefully. Dropping out now could potentially be a huge mistake. Consider what you want to do with your life, and then look at that perspectively. Will you be able to follow a career track of your choice without a diploma? A BA? Maybe you will, but don't make any rash decisions now. I'm with your mate on this one, go and pull a few strings, see what you can do. Good luck!

Well, there's some good news, perhaps I'm being optimistic though. My friend John has suggested that I change a few things in a particular piece of coursework and he's 100% that the teacher has to pass me for it. I'm going to get cracking on it tonight and hand it in tomorrow!

"Dont be a fool, stay in school" ok thats lame... but seriously it was a tad crazy to even think of dropping this late into the semester.

I actually dropped back in december, but I dont really need a degree for what im doing.
