View Full Version : Star Trek Thread! (or other Sci-Fi if you like...)
Ok, I'm a Trekkie and a Sci-Fi fan, so I thought I'd start a thread to see who else is...
First question:
Favourite Series? Original Series, Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine or Enterprise?

"Southie" contacted us today from pre-production of Gone Baby Gone. He had some news about Ben Affleck, who is making his directorial debut with the movie. Take the news with a grain of salt as it is all unconfirmed. He wrote:
I'm doing some work at the moment - well, a week off from doing some work, rehearsals start next week - on the Boston-filmed "Gone Baby Gone" with Ben Affleck directing, and Casey Affleck starring. It's a great script - very tense stuff - I think it'll change everyone's mind about Ben's abilities in this industry.
Anyway, at a round-table catch-up this week, a few of us sparkies and grips (and briefly, Ben and Ed Harris), got together to run through some of the details for the actual shoot - which begins in little under a month.
To the news...
This isn't gospel, this isn't even confirmed....it's merely speculation on our behalf, but some pretty SOLID speculation from some solid sources...... Ben had to shoot back to L.A, briefly after our meeting, to talk to Paramount. One of the chaps here, who just worked with Ben on a movie called Man About Town, said Ben's been talking about playing Jack Ryan again in a new movie called "Red Rabbit". It's the follow-up to 'Sum of all fears'. He assumes that's what it's still about..
.. some others had heard that Ben has also been talking to Paramount about possibly playing a lead role in a new Star Trek film from J.J Abrams. Apparently Abrams is coming down to visit the set in a few weeks, to visit Michelle Monaghan, whom he directed in Mission : Impossible 3, so that might add some more fuel to the fire. If it comes off, he's apparently playing the hero. Don't know if that's Captain Kirk or some other nameless male protagonist...but that's the gist of it. So possible that Affleck's going to go onto doing a new Jack Ryan, and possibly a "Trek", after he finishes with this film.
I wouldn't be surprised if they wait till Man about Town comes out to make any decisions on that. But can I just say, Ben is the nicest guy you'll ever meet....really respectful to "everyone and anyone".....I think he's going to do a top job on "Gone"..... stay tuned.
My best,
'Southie'
Why for the love of GOD why?! Star Trek? Just turn in Crap Trek....if it is true....
BTW, my fav is the OG Star Trek with Kirk bring a violent sexest pig that shoots aliens and bangs alien babes. Sweet. Next if the Next Generation. Though ialways wished Rikker were the Captin. I didn't really go for any of the other shows. The best movie? Wrath of Khan of course!
Wrath of Khan was fantastic and still is until this day, I'll have to borrow it off my Brother sometime to watch it again.

If Sulu is a homo and Kirk was drunk and horny one night did he do Sulu just cause there was no alien girly action goin on and Uhura was on the rag?
This WAS meant to be an intellectual discussion about ST and sci-fi, but I see this thread just crashing and burning right about now...
*pulls out fire-extinguisher* Alright, whats everybody's favourite ST character?

Mine is Scotty. Why? Because he is a right drunk (synthehol? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Not for Scotty man!!!) Scotts man who always pulls everyones bacon out of the fire. He is akin to R2D2. With out either of them all the characters of their prospective shows/movies would be up the creek with no paddle.
BTW, I loved the episode when Scotty was on the Next Generation. So classic man!!! the tasted synthehol zand practically spit it out back in the cup!
Hey kaphwan063 look on Ebay, I found a copy my self there. Good condition too and on DVD.
Woo some-one quoted me!
Anyway my favourite characters are TNG: Data, Voyager: Doctor.
Best captain is DEFINATELY Janeway...lol
I must get to seeing some DS9 and Enterprise Episodes...
My favorite will always be the original. Kirk, Spock and Bones 4EVER! I'm so glad B&B won't be directing/producing the next trek film, btw. :)
Hmm I didn't like much the OS movies, but thats mainly because I saw TNG and Voyager first, and was used to better special effects. I might consider seeing this new film though...

My favorite Star Trek series is the original series. It's hard to pick a favorite Trek character. Right now I'd have to say Kirk.
*rolls eyes*
Ok its obvious that everyone prefers OS (fogies).
How about other sci-fi?

I used to watch the original series when I was little, but that was late at night and I tended to be real sleepy by the time it was on. Then, when The Next Generation rolled around in its place, I was perplexed (remember that I was half asleep when it came on) because I couldn't figure out what was wrong with Kirk and company. I've since watched every episode of TNG, all the movies, a bit of Deep Space Nine, and a few seasons of Voyager.
I don't like the original series anymore since it now seems so cheesy. I do still like all the movies, however. My favorite Star Trek series is still TNG. I hated Deep Space Nine, and grew tired of Voyager after the first two or three seasons. I loved the crews from the NCC-1701 (original show) and from the NCC-1701-D (TNG), but the casts of DS9 and Voyager just didn't click with me. My favorite of the classic films is probably Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
DS9 started getting good when The Dominion War began. Voyager was ok. I still like it but they totally turned The Borg into p00sies. They also had waaaay to much techno-bable.
Anybody like the new Battlestar Galactica?

thats true i suppose, and your right about ds9 too, it was sooooooo much better when the war began...it was like...YAY!!!
I like that "techno-bable" in voyager! If you actually listen carefully to it, some of it even makes sense...
Lol if you talk to kaphwan long enough, you tend to pick up skills like that.

Although I haven't seen as much of it as I would like, I really enjoyed Enterprise for the most part. The last episode was awful though. Even though I didn't watch from week to week, I was actually angry that they let two of the TNG cast members steal the show, and that's from a guy who likes TNG.

I was first introduced to Star Trek with the Next Generation series, and really enjoyed them. The latter series, Voyager and Deep Space Nine were also enjoyable... Except the latest "Enterprise" series .. I don't know what happened with that.
I couldn't really get into the old original star trek though. I know many people who say they only like the original, but I enjoy the newer series. I still think Jean Luc Picard is one of the best captains.

LOL, yes. I really didn't mind the techno-bable all that much. It's what Star Trek is all about!

And to point something out, TNG made the fans proud to be human. The other series' were very good, but sometimes they edged toward fighting rather than the diplomatic (pussy) approach TNG did. That is why most Trekies-er-ians loved it so much. And the Treknobable was always classic.
olololol...
Watched the first five minutes, made me laugh, will watch the rest later...
