So, I own a Sega Genesis, but I've not got any of the cables to hook it up. I won it on eBay a long time ago, but it was kind of thrown in when I bought ChronoTrigger (for some reason). So I have the system (and one, chart bustingly spectacular game: The Lion King) and so far I've seen no reason to pick up a new set of cables and check the system out... but I've been considering it.
Basically, what I'm asking is wheather or not It's worth it to hook the system up, and, if I do, which games should I consider? Thanks.

Yes it is worth it. The genises was one of the best sega systems ever. A list of good games to try out;
Sonics
Vectormans
Streets of Rages
Golden Axe Series
Phantasy Stars
don't know where you staand from this but this is what I did after the Golden Genesis era passed: I modded my PS2 and bought one disk that included Genesis's best games. I am talking more than a hundred or so! so I don't need to dust off my Genesis anymore.
there is also another disk for PSOne as well, but PS2's has a bigger roaster of games.
on another note, though you may want to play rtro games now, this is something to keep an eye on if you like these classics:
all console players are going all out supporting these kinds of games. I am sure handheld and online console downloads will be available at launch.
here are some of my best Genesis games:
Eternal Champions
Splatter House
Comix Zone
Fifa World Soccer
man, that brings back memories...(and no, I don't like Sonic ;p)

Errr, I could be mistaken but isn't piracy one of the main factors in Sega's going out of buisness? Maybe the golden days of Genesis are over, but I'll be paying for the Genesis game's I buy. Thanks for the idea though.
Yeah, I'm for sure going to try out the Sonic titles... I'm not sure how many games beyond those I'm going to buy though.

Gunstar Heroes is a classic Run 'N Gun shooter.
Ristar and Dynamite Headdy are two incredible Platformers.
Thunder Force 3 and Lightening Force are two of the best side-scrolling, space shooters.
Ranger-X is a amazingly fun action game.
Comix Zone and the Streets of Rage series are kings in the Beat 'em up genre.
Those games are some of the best of the best on the Platform, and I highly reccomend them.

they are already out of the console business and Genesis is history now. some countries legalize game ROMs of systems that aren't officially supported anymore. my Genesis still works, but I don't want to play using that pad or go through the wiring. besides, I am not a retro fan at all. I just quickly give a game a try just for old times sake. that is why you'll always see a giant grin of mix feelings on my face when going retro. I am all about the future!
in any case, I threw this as an option. if you don't feel you want to go that way, just ignore the idea. :)
If you're looking for cables, you don't need to use the official ones. All you need is a regular TV cable with one male connector and one female connector. As far as the adaptor goes, you can use any old one, as long as it's the same voltage as the one used with the Mega Drive.
