Ok here's the evidence I have
I don't think anyone would argue that Sonic The Hedgehog is the very beginning lol.
Next would have to be Sonic CD. Tails ventures with Sonic in nearly every game after Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Seeing as Tails isn't present in Sonic CD points that it may have taken place before Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Also, this game had to take place early in the timeline due to that fact it's the first appearance of Amy Rose, who is a major character in the Adventure series and beyond so it had to take place before Sonic Adventure.
Nobody can argue that Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Sonic And Knuckles is ALL connected because of the Death Egg.
*Now here is the inbetween part. Someone else would have to draw up a story for the Gamegear games becuase I really never played them so I won't say too much here. I haven't played Knuckles Chaotix either but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't Chaotix fight Robotnick? If so, the game would have to take place after Sonic And Knuckles because Knuckles is bascally on Eggman's side for all of Sonic 3 and most of Sonic And Knuckles. Also like I said earlier, I'm pretty sure everyone had adventures of thier own before all meeting up again in Sonic Adventure. As for the Advance titles and Sonic Rush, the only place really left for them to fit would be in this area between Sonic And Knuckles and Sonic Adventure.*

Sonic Riders, this is up to debate. The story could be canon and take place right after Shadow The Hedgehog, but at the same time couldn't. No solid evidence really leads to either side. The only thing that can be said is since Shadow said "Goodbye forever, Shadow The Hedgehog" in ShTH and didn't appear in Sonic Rider's story, it could be a hint to take place right after ShTH, but that evidence isn't strong enough.
And that bring us to Sonic 15th Anniversary. As all of you now know, it will NOT be a prequel to Sonic The Hedgehog or a remake of Sonic The Hedgehog (I told you so). The only thing we really know is that there is a new white hedgehog, and you'll be saving a princess in some kingdom. It will probably no doubt take place after Shadow The Hedgehog (or Sonic Riders if Sonic Riders is proven to be canon) but we will only know once the game is released.
