Hey guys, in addition to the articles and downloads and DVD and the rest of it, I'll be keeping a semi-live photoblog of the event going that you can visit by going here:

http://xbde3.blogspot.com/

You can also post coverage requests in this thread and I'll see what I can do to meet your needs!

I won't be able to check the forums very often so keep that in mind.

I'm off to the Sony booth right now...

Hey can I get feedback on the DS3? How are the analog sticks and the R2+L2 triggers? And give some WarHawk impressions of the tilt control. Also compare the lightness of the controller and determine for me if its better light.

Lastly, a video review of the PS3 XMB would be nice.

Sorry for the delay Smokey - I haen't been on the forumsmuch during all this and when I am I've been in the E3 section.

Left to right it's Jordan (HylianAdvocate - who's actually not a part of the DVD team), Dustin (Frosty), Angela (Lucent Beam), and Dustin's cameraman/friend Mike.

@Handycrap, I just put up a XMB article, and as for the controller... well you can read my motion sensing article, and beyond that just think DS2. It's lighter and more precise though on the sticks.

Point of interest: I spoke to a Warhawk dev who says that motion sensing will probably be the default mode of play. Also, I asked him about the 'two weeks' thing, and although he confirmed that that's about when they got the hardware, they'd known about Sony's decision to include motion sensing for longer than that.

You can use whatever photos you like... as long as they don't get watermarked and claimed as your own as some on the net have been doing. ;)

http://reviews.cnet.com/E3_Sony_PlayStation_3/4660-12331_7-6521287.html?tag=vid

It shows the PS3! NOT A DEV KIT playing a game.

Yeah that video was brought to my attention earlier today. I haven't updated theblog with it because I think in the withering rain of emails Charlie has been receiving, that as become a part of the recent ones.

But I might as well just add it in to make it a 'me and CNet vs Charlie' thing vs just a 'me vs Charlie' thing.

Actually... it looked a bit fishy. The wire for the HDMI went into the ps3, it wasn't plugged into an hdmi port. I have video of it on the DVD to show. All the others looked fine, but it wan't quite right.

I agree with you, and I noticed that too - but at the same time, I don't doubt for a moment that the console was actually the thing running the demos (in the booths we're talking about). I mean, it would have been simple enough to put on a 'fake' HDMI cable if they were just running it on a dev kit in secret elsewhere.

I think the cable actually coming out from the system like that indicates that they are not using a final motherboard revision yet, pending the HDMI 1.3 ratification, and had a jerry-rigged solution for the HDMI within the console.

Whatever the case, the consoles were on and running, the controllers were plugged in, devs confirmed it for me, and CNet's saying the same thing... so I feel confident in my position. :smoke:

Im so excited to see that it was an actual ps3 and not a dev kit. Ive got a questions though. I know it was loud at E3, but could u hear the ps3 at all or was there any indication as to how loud the system was. I can see why u wouldnt be able to tell because of the ambient noise and it being in an acryllic case. I was just curious.

Yeah no prob. :)

Someone else asked me the same question on another forum, and this was my response:

Indeed I can. The first time I was there, they were running the video demos intermitently, and I could get a decent sense of the PS3's noise levels. They didn't seem that high at all, but then again you have to account for the fact that it was within this acrylic casing; I tried getting my ear near the hole on the top, but it was too high for me to effectively angle as such. Plus the Sony reps were getting a little edgey at how I was sticking my camera in the hole and all this other business.

The second time I went in, it seemed louder - more 'roar' from the fan; but honestly I couldn't distinguish anything really soundwise because the Blu-ray demos were in full effect and the sound was thunderous. I would imagine that the increased fan noise I thought I heard was real though, as that would sync up nicely with the tactile sensation I got of air being pushed out of the case much more quickly.

Well the picture I took was in the Blu-ray booth; I guess Frosty must've taken his footage of the console in the Warhawk booth or elsewhere, because indeed mine didn't have an ethernet cable hooked up. Frosty?

CNet seems to have taken their footage from a similar PS3 setup as mine.

How did MGS4 look in the HD resolution? I heard there were many graphical nuances that were not captured in the low-res trailers. Also I hope you enjoyed Los Angeles.

My time not in traffic in LA was enjoyable. ;)

MGS4 trailer in HD looked fantastic; haven't compared it to the existing downloads yet, but I wouldn't remember the differences even if I had. Great looking though - kind of stopped everyone in their tracks everytime it came on.
