I hope I don't get flamed for this because I know that there are quite a few pre-order threads, but I had a couple more specific questions regarding pre-ordering a PS3; First off, when do you think that places will start taking pre-orders? I personally was under the impression that stores like EB Games would start pre-orders as soon as they recived a date and price and so I am a bit dumfounded as to why they have not started to take money; Secondly I'm curious why other places i.e. New Zealand and Canada have stores that have been taking preorders for months, it makes me feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick and that my chances of getting one @ launch are dwindling; Finally how you yall think that Sony is going to carry out thier World Wide Launch- will it be a 360-like launch or will they pull it off?

I think they'll pull it off with all the indications of production ramp up so far.

I'm on the call list for Gamestop, hopefully they get back to me:)

What I am hearing at my local gaming store is that HQ is holding off on pre-orders unitl they get final allocation numbers, so they can figure out how many units the chain get, and then figure out how many to allocate to each store. They don't want a repeat of the screw-up that occured with the 360 launch, and to a lesser extent the PS2 launch, where the number of units they had at launch was significantly less then what they were initially promised. There were also significant issues with the bundling packages that the chains sold

It would not surprise me in the least if these chains just thew up their hands and sold them first-come-first-served on launch day, skipping the pre-order bit completely.

teh price is public but that doesn't mean that stores have recieved CONFIRMATION of how many units they will be getting and what the SKU number is. A lot of places are already taking pre-orders, and have been for months. Expect the rest to follow suit very soon. Be patient.

My local gamestop said it will be FCFS, no pre-orders (I have one personally but only because an employee screwed up a year ago).

Well all of the stores around here (EB, Gamestop, Game Crazy) have said they will start taking pre-orders between the middle to end of next week.

Sounds like it's store preference and not a corporate decision.

I'm on the call list with Gamestop as well, and when I was there the other day I asked the guy. He said probably next week. I'm hoping he's right...

Yeah it may be still be corporate, I am in Manhattan so it's possible they are a little harsher here considering there is basically one gamestop and a Best Buy acrross the street for a half million people in my neighborhood. They may be making decisions on a store by store basis. Out in the burbs they may be a little more lenient. For whatever reason my local one isn't doing it, at least for now. But with a little over a half million units for all of North america at launch it's going to be a friggin' nightmare! Prices on Ebay are probably going to hit 2-3K. (KK not so stupid, in that sense it is "too cheap"=money on the table)) Seriously considering selling mine on Ebay and buying one in 2007 and using the profits for games. I just don't want to have to wait until like May of 2007...that would suck.

You know what I find hilarious, and probably a foreshadowing of sony's continued dominance (not that I care, I don't own sony stock), is:
"So the ps3 is gonna be 500-600 dollars."
"600 DOLLARS??? THAT'S RIDICULOUS! THAT'S HIGHWAY ROBBERY!"

".....where can I get one? when's it come out again?"
