Keyboard and mouse support for the PS3 was already mentioned as early as September 2005, but if you are still skeptical about it, then maybe this image can make you doubt no more.
Recently, through an e-mail from Aaron, an image of two guys tweaking the PS3 emerged (pic below). Click on it to see the actual size then shift your attention to the fourth icon from the bottom- it reads "Keyboard and Mouse Settings". And judging from the look of the very-familiar controller, we could all say that it is indeed for the PS3.
If this indeed materializes, then it would be very efficient in enhancing the online capabilities of PS3. As more and more info about the innovations of this console are arising, I'm beginning to think that the $600 price tag may be justifiable.

I didn't really doubt that there would be keyboard and mouse support. It's good to see more evidence of support of keyboards and mice. Hopefully that just not a dev kit screen, but a real PS3 screen. Though I think that a USB keyboard and mouse should work fine.

Yes, I saw that a while ago and discussed it in the PS3 interface thread. That's certainly good news considering the competition doesn't support M+K.
That's certainly the real PS3 interface. There even was a woman there explaining it while people used it.

I figured that was a given with all the talk about Linux and programming.

Nah, not old news really, but we found out just a while ago. Anyway, this well deserves its own thread.

The question isn't really if it will support k+m, it is if it will support it in games?
That is my question anyway. That would certainly make it easier for RTS type games.

ammmm i have a strange idea about the interface,
i was thinking if they change shape of the BG wave pattern of the interface when selecting option (like the ps2 was) one for every category (pictures, movies, setting, etc...) specially as i think its a real time simulated
wave or im going too far here?

and with a pre-installed linux the beast can do strange things it not intended to do and its open for the homebrew not like the psp just imagine what the crazy programmers out there can do with its power (the psp is a good examble for that) we have emulators mp3 players cheat programs even full-blown system interfaces woow just think about it!!
and i bet M$ cant do something like that
right?

They should make the interface a circle instead of a line, I think it would look cooler.

i posted it on my first post but it dos not look like a link :(
and @ Infernal no the circle is not simple as the line when you take in mind the inner menu items with the up and down movement

Sorry Xone. We have a filter that keeps new members from being able to post links until their 15th post. It works wonders keeping the spammers and advertisers away. Usually if a mod or admin notices the link and the member seems genuine, they'll edit the post so the link works. Sorry I missed yours.

I wonder if you could use a keyboard and a mouse as your controls. If Sony did that, then it could appeal to PC gamers since they are most familar with the PC. If not, then it would probably be used for typing 'er something.

Unless the keyboard and mouse come standard, I doubt many titles would use it. That's just the way of the peripheral.

Here's to hoping we finally get real RTS games on a console.

LOTR is headed to the 360.

Yeah, I'm curious about that. BFME was light as far as depth goes, but I haven't played 2. I'm hoping for something more like Rise of Nations or Age of Empires to make the jump. If one of those migrated I'm not sure I would play much else besides online multiplayer. The ever-changing strategies in those games are great. I never had so much fun as playing 6 player Warcraft 3 matches over a lan in college. I used to play almost exlusively online RTS games... and then I graduated, lost all my casual gamer friends, got a PS2 and RPGs took over... that and I moved and the desk my cpu is on now is just uncomfortable compared to the big couch and HD tv.

Yeah, I'm curious about that.
why not if it supports bluetooth it is not hard to make it work with any wireless K/M that support it too

I've got a Bluetooth mouse, I wonder if I could use it for PS3's interface and more. It can also easily become USB, so I hope I'll be able to use it in any case. I'd have to buy a keyboard though.

Well AoE isn't gonna happen, since MS owns Ensemble. But I would love the next WC, or a SC RTS if they make another one, on PS3. A real Total War game would be cool too. Wish the Empire Earth guys didn't go outta bussiness.....that would have been good too.
