PS3 is GOOD ENOUGH for ME!

For days I have read and read how good MGS4 looked. I have downloaded many trailers, but they looked fuzzy and blurry.

Finally, I was able to download the following.

It is a MGS4 clip running at 480P.

Before seeing this clip MGS looked plastic, fuzzy, and Snake looked downright unrealistic.

But in higher detail he looks.... supurb.

I now arrest my case.

THIS GAME IS REALISTIC ENOUGH FOR MY EYES AND I AM SATISFIED WITH THE PS3.

Although I hope more games will look as realistic as this one.

MGS has never used prerendered stuff to the best of my knowledge. It uses in game assets combined with scripted movement. For example, in MGS2 you could watch any cut scene with any character model for any role, all rendered in realtime.

I suspect that's what we have here, in game models with more cinematic animation and camera angles.

Now, most of my posts still stand and I stick to my opinions. The one thing I am conceeding is that so far the PS3 has not "pulled everything together" to make a super realistic game with great looking characters and environments. From what I can tell MGS4 has a great looking character and a great looking environment.

If the PS3 can pull this off without final hardware and the game is supposed to improve further then I am sure that just about anything is possible with the system if the developers take the time to push it to the max.

The ONE thing I have noticed is in most of the clip SNAKE is in a dusty and dirty environment which makes things look drag and dreary. Yet, a few close up's it shows him in detail and he does look very realistic.

Will there be any times in the game where he is in the open sunlight with a clean atmosphere? I will say he does look realistic, but I am wondering how much better he will look out in the open sunlight or a well-lit and non-dusty room somewhere!

Additionally, am I correct to say that since that was only in 420P and the final game is supposed to be... was it 1080P or 1280P? Anyway, since the final game is supposed to be in a super high resolution that the game will look more detailed in the resolution it is designed for?

This game, once again looks GREAT and I am VERY releaved to know that it is being done 100% in REAL TIME.

Just imagine what will be possible by launch, and then consider MGS5: Son's of the Patriots (if it is ever made).

Why do I say this?

Because I have discovered that low definition vids of games made to run on high definition look downright awful and hidious.

I want to see what it REALLY looks like. If any of us that did not make it to E3 are to really see this game that is what we need, period.

Just because I think the PS3 is good enough for me does not mean I back away from the comments and statements I have made.

If it can produce MGS4 then I will buy it. MGS4 looks that good. However, it still needs an upgrade, many of the other games look horrible, and we all need to demand the absolute best products.

But the PS3 itself is good enough for me to buy on MGS4 alone, because if that game can be made this early then other games will be made too.

Not all of us think that because the graphics aren't the best makes the game sub-par, there are plenty of games I love that simply have passable graphics (its a rare game that I think accually has bad graphics) but if they spent all their time of graphics and less on the rest would the game be as good? Probably not, or would have been released far later, costing more money, and I don't wanna see any company go outta business, simply to make a game slightly prettier.

i in no way want to derail this thread but can someone please tell me why the target sound on the PS3 is not anywhere near the target sound heard at the GDC. some games come close, such as MGS but others are just horrible.

i know a lot of you will disagree with me on this and that is fine. i wouldn't want you all to agree with me just listen and stop you flaming because although i am not that bright or good looking i am inteligent. sound is the most important aspect of a game to me.

a lot of games have come close but none have brought it all together, ie: stereo, surround and mono. again i don't want anyone to agree with me but i have the right to say what i feel and it seems to me that most of you hate me even though all i'm doing is expressing my views. you have the right to your views as do i.

but as i have said above i feel sound is the most important thing in games. without good sound i will not buy the PS3, i will wait for the PS4. i'm looking for some good vids at the moment with nice crisp sound so that i can hunker up to my speaker and listen intently. Warhawk was good but there was a slight hissing on my speaker (EVEN WITH DOLBY ON) so until i find that vid i will not be satisfied.

again i don't mind anyone disagreeing with my views and posting threateningly because i respect all peoples views, unlike some who bate me into talking about sound and then complain because i don't want mono. i have been waiting for many years for a console with realistic sound but have still to find one. no doubt the PS3 will have good sound but not good enough

Hello Clifbo,

It is very nice to know that you want the very best sound the PS3 will have to offer. I am not an expert on sound, but I do hope the PS3 has a great sound system. One question I have heard discussed lately is if the PS3 will utilize the RSX or the CELL for sound processing. The leaf demo at last years E3 utilized the CELL for the sounds each leaf was making. That was pretty cool in my opinion, but I wonder how that will translate into making games actually sound better.

Perhaps since the PS3 (at least the 599 version) has wireless built into it the following could be possible.

You could put a dozen or so wireless speakers all around your room with some infront of you, others under you, some beside you, and so fourth and the PS3 could send the appropriate data to the correct speakers in real-time to make you feel that you are more "in the game" with true surround sould.

What exactly are the ways you think Sony could improve the sound in the PS3? I am more than willing to listen. I also hope MGS4 has great sound to match the great graphics, although personally graphis is more important to me than sound.

By the way, I have no problem with you mentioning your opinions about sound on any thread a game of any sort is mentioned. If a game utilizes sound at all and you want to comment that is perfectlly find with me. There are many conversations going on in threads and if some people don't like your comments they can just move on to the next post that was part of their conversation.

People get mad at me too due to my love of supurb graphics. So I feel your pain. Honestly, I am frustrated that people on this board seem to jump on the attack bandwagon of anyone who disagrees with them on a regular basis. It seems saying good things repeatedly about one game, multiple games, or lots of positive posts on the same thread is fine. You can even say good things about a different game and it is fine. But if you simply write your honest opinions which totally conflict with theirs they want to get you banned so their threads can continue with no one interuppting their version of gaming PS3 bliss.

Well, at least the two of us realize that there are improvements that can be made in the PS3. I want great graphics and you want great sound. Now, please don't stoop down to their level and get all upset because someone disagrees with you. That is THEIR tactic for clensing the board of any contaminants that are not loyal exclusively to the PS3 and it's developers. However, if they start attacking you and bashing you and saying that you are going to be banned please don't go away. It is stressful, but don't leave. Please don't! They need you to stay, because they are so hyped about so many games they have become blind to flaws in games (graphics or in the cases you have pointed out the sound) and don't seem to care for anything better. If they want to be that way that is fine, but just because someone posts honest comments does not give them cause to jump all over you. But try to just be nice, stay polite, realize THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE, don't be hateful back, and continue posting your thoughts while being nice to everyone.

If you are like me, many people probably don't like your opinions on many issues. But I have learned the more strongly people react against you the more significant your posts really are, because for some reason it is hitting a nerve even if you were only politely posting your feelings and not trying to start any kind of heated debate.

I wish you the very best and hope you get the best possible sound you can from the PS3. When I was in elementary school the music room had some sound proofing on the walls that blocked sound. Perhaps if you could find some good sound proofing you could make a really, really good acoustical gaming room!

Me? Well my cakes suck.....But I like just about any cake without icing, to much sugar just kills me. But just normal white, yellow, chocolate, whatever cakes are good without icing provided they are still moist, I hate dry cake. There are a few types of cake that almost require icing, carrot cake and German chocolate come to mind, I guess they are like the fighters and racers of the world, there is so little being shown that good graphics are a must, lol.

No, I am not a genius at all. I just don't like to joke around or "kid" very much. It is part of my personality to be open and honest about most things. The posts I have made on these forums are sincere and legitimate. You wanna know the games I have played? Let me see if I remember...

When I was real little I played a bunch of Atari games.

When I was a little older I played Nintendo. A LOT of nintendo games.

Then when I was probably.. I don't know how old I was, I started playing the SEGA GENESIS. Mortal Kombat was my first game, and eventually played Sonic the Hedgehog.... didn't have a lot of money back then so I did not get a lot of games. However, I do remember renting quite a few for a couple days at a time.

Eventually, my brothers purchased a PS1. I played it sometimes with them.

Later on, I purchased my brothers a PS2 and played it off and on. I can't remember the names of the games I played. I do remember I played Enter the Matrix and a few others. My brothers however had many, many games.

When it comes to computer games I have played a little WoW (no longer however) and Star Trek Armada.

I have played several games at friends houses, although most of my friends are married and really, really busy so I don't see them that often. Back in the day when we would gather together on Monday Nights for WCW wrestling and WWF RAW we would play all sorts of wrestling games before and after the programs. I know we played many Wrestlemania titles, Smackdown titles, and so fourth.

The one friend I keep in contact with more often had a Gamecube and now has an XBox 1. I have played Halo, the Incredible Hulk, Resident Evil 4, and other games at his house. But I have not had a chance to go and play games with him very much in the past year. He is very busy working lots of hours and taking care of his children. Honestly, he wants me to come over more often, but when his wife and himself get into arguments over finances, the kids, or other issues I feel unwelcomed even though his wife actually likes it when I come over because I am one of his more level headed friends.

I do have a PSP and have played GTA! Yep. I played that for the PS2 too!

Basically, over the past year I have played less and less games due to the fact they don't excite me or interest me very much due to the fact such FANTASTIC games like MGS4 are going to be coming out for the PS3 in the not too distant future.

well, it's logical that people lose the interest playing games after a while, me myself is the same too, I can totally agree with you. However, it's not the problem from the games themself. What if Sony never introduce PS1, what if there was never 3D gaming?
I know it's near impossible to go back to the old days but there is something you must not lose inside of you because of the graphic and etc. What's the differences between reading book and playing rpgs?

MILR, i could see this comign from the moment E3 '05 was over. your constant posts about how sony were going to put another cell and a turbo inside the PS3 before they launched it, RSX was going to feature nitro injection, etc. you were just building yourself up to come crashing back down. people even warned you not to aim too high, but you continued to do so. As a result, i any obviously many others simply don't care for your opinion, as it is simply as far-fetched as your original beliefs regarding improvements made to PS3 specs.

I am actually pretty certain that they will be increasing the specs of the PS3 at least a little. CPIASMINC has already hinted at this and additionally the lack of information on the RSX and CELL really make me believe that not everything is written in stone yet.

I have not yet crashed at all by the way? Am I sobbing on the floor crying my eyeballs out? Nope. I am answering questions from those that ask, participating in this forum, and commenting. For goodness sakes, I am not broken to pieces at all.

MGS4 and WarDevil both are examples of highly realistic games being made for the PS3 (although the face of Snake in MGS4 is far more realistic than the main character in WarDevil) with probably less than the final specifications. If these can be made with current specs this early then I am satisfied, because in a few years we shall have some truly amazing stuff being created.

However, I still hope for better specifications by launch. If there are none that occur I will be disapointed, but will do my best to find a way to purchase the system just for MGS4 alone.

Do you remember how hardly no one was saying the PS3 would cost over $500 dollars? Now we have a version that is going to cost $599!

Being critical about someone's opinion and being overly annoyed by someone's rants are two different things. We understand you want more from the PS3 than its offering. It's just you creating a dozen threads over the same issue is what's becoming annoying. Your the only one creating a mess of threads about ram increase, having two cells in PS3, and the graphics not being realistic enough. Mostly everyone here knows whats possible and what is not. You, my friend, simply do not.
