I personally disagree with the idea of having Achivements.
I think that this takes the fun out of games and in many occasions, people do things they don't enjoy just to get some achivements and the reason to get achivements? To show off their points to their 'homies' (there might be another reason that I am not aware of).
I see this as pointless and something that takes the ideology of gaming in the wrong direction.
This is also used by companies so people will buy their 'crappy' games. EA (what a surprise) for example makes easy achivements in their games (mainly their annual sport titles) to draw the audience towards their product.

What are your views?

I like achievments to an extent.

I like the fact that when I beat a game like Call of Duty 2 on veteran it shows up with my gamertag. That way I can show my friends that i beat it on veteran and if they need any help they know who they can ask. Also like the fact that after beating a game on the hardest difficulty setting (for some games) I dont just get the same ending and everything. You actually earn something.

However I don't like the fact that games such as madden give you all these achievement points just for playing through one game or whatever. I guess in this sense the points themselves have no meaning. Could have somone with 10,000 acheivment points, but got them all playing games that are easy to earn them in.

I guess what it comes down to is that the idea of Achievments is a good thing to have. But Achievment points doesnt really mean anything.

Achievement is it's own reward. Pride obscures it.
