If you guys can remember way back in 1995, which i can but i was in kindergarten or something,

Well i thought about a couple of things, and i just want to see what people's opinions are on this stuff....So, please fanboys stay out of this thread and dont flame me...

Ok, So
In 96 Nintendo were apparently really arrogant, they had a powerfull console coming out with a brand new control scheme and the video game world was hyped up about it and wanted this thing
In 2006 Sony is really arrogant, and have this powerfull console coming out, and the game world is hyped up and wants this thing

Nintendo underestimated underdog Sony with their simple approach, cheaper hardware and software, and marketing to more than just the gaming audience

Sony seems to underestimate Microsoft (and Nintendo) by expecting the average joe to buy a PS3 over a 360 when they both have games that look the same and one is $200 cheaper.

Sony's System is Expensive - N64 was expensive

Blu Ray is expensive - Cartriges were expensive

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Super Mario 64 (must have games)

3rd system - 3rd system

2 previous console "wins"

And thats about all i can think of.

But, this is sorta like that Xbox 360 - Dreamcast comparison 1up did...

There are things in common but its compeltely different and stuff

but its just a fun thing to do.

Thoughts? (if anyone finds this thread)

Some of your comaprisons are accurate, others are not. N64 was only $199.99while PS1 was still $299.99

And the format advantage was not on the console in question's side, now it is.

Interesting outlook, though.

Sony's System is Expensive - N64 was expensive Er, no.

Blu Ray is expensive - Cartriges were expensive Blu-Ray is way cheaper than a cartridge, and it's cost is only going to drop. On top of that, it offers a storage advantage rather than a disadvantage like N64's carts.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Super Mario 64 (must have games) Umm... doesn't every console have it's "must have games", lol.

3rd system - 3rd system You can have these 2.

2 previous console "wins"

And thats about all i can think of.

But, this is sorta like that Xbox 360 - Dreamcast comparison 1up did...

In the fact that both are way off the mark.

Didn't the Sega Genesis 'beat' the SNES?

Actually the SNES did have the most consoles sold and the games by far sold more.

SNES - 20 million (US) 49 million (worldwide).
Genesis - 30,750,000 - 35 million depending on source (worldwide).

Yeah, um..., no. It was out the door before the SNES and enjoyed a nice beginning, but was overtaken by the superior SNES and its superior games in the long run.

According to Wikipedia's article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_nintendo), "49 million Super NES units were sold worldwide [3], beating the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis (35 million units). However, Nintendo was unable to recapture the market share of the Nintendo Entertainment System (60 million units)."
