A recent article in the LA Times included analyst estimates of Nokia's global sales of their much derided handheld gaming 'device', the N-Gage. According to the estimates Nokia has succeeded in shifting only half of the target number of consoles to date, 200,000 versus 400,000 units. According to company representatives however this is all great and they mention that they are already working on a second version of the N-Gage and plan to have more than 80 games available for it next year.
What they can do to ever overcome the mountain of bad publicity and negative reports that have plagued their brave first foray into the gaming market is anyone's guess. A second version of the hardware which should hopefully address some of the more glaring, 'taco-esque' problems would go a long way, but it may be too late to save Nokia's tenuous grip on the market unless something very special indeed replaces the original handset.

N-gage = 200,000 since launch worldwide.
GBA = 1,724,000 in the last 2 months in just the U.S.
And somehow they are pleased with this? And are releaseing a new version of it? Someone slap Nokia and wake them up.
