I broke down and bought a PS2.

For the first time in almost 4 years, I own a PS2. Buying a brand new never opened PS2 from a friend of mine.

I got ripped off tho, he got it at the local supermarket type store for $37 and im paying $80 for it. Oh well, its brand freakin new, i ain gonna complain.

Now to buy DDR and God Of War...

The title lead me to believe this would be a slightly more interesting thread as in:

Why did you hate Sony?
Now that you have a PS2, do you start liking Sony?

Note: Technically, your friend paid Sony and you've paid your friend so you didn't give anything to Sony yet other than the software you are going to purchase. Unless you categorize "hate" as not owning anything Sony labeled but I personally see it as not helping a company financially, not that I hate any companies.

I dont really hate Sony, its just that because I work for a Nintendo site and dont own any Sony products, people think im biased and hate Sony.

Although, deep down, I loathe Sony for the fall of Sega.

*shakes fist at the PS2's launch, which killed the Dreamcast*

I broke down and bought a PS2 in October of 2004, anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The GTA series never really appealed to me until I read several articles about San Andreas in the months leading up to its release. Sure, there were games that I'd have liked to have played that were only available on the PS2, but it wasn't until San Andreas was on the way that I finally picked one up.

The game that got me to finally pick up an Xbox? Burnout 3: Takedown. So, I broke down and bought an Xbox only one month prior to breaking down and buying a PS2. As with the PS2, there were Xbox games that appealed to be before, but it wasn't until Burnout 3 was on the way to everything but GameCube that I picked up an Xbox. I just always enjoyed the Burnout games and really wanted the third, which unfortunately wasn't going to be gracing my black lunchbox. (I say that effectionately, as I don't hate my GameCube.)

Oh, another part of the reason I bought an Xbox was anticipation of the upcoming Doom 3.

I hated Sony for a long time for knocking Nintendo out of the top spot and refused to buy a ps1 or ps2...but eventually I bought an xbox and felt shame...and then bought a ps2 and felt shame...but then Halo and God of War made it all worth it

I hate Sony but not the Playstation 2. So I had to decide if it was worth giving Sony my money and not miss out on some good games. In the end, it seems I'm a crappy protester. It's OK though, it was after 1 price drop so I doubt Sony made much profit (if any at all) from my purchase.

Lol.

I don't see any reason to hate sony. Sure they knocked out Dreamcast, but it was obvious from the start that the system wasn't going anywhere.

Also, Nintendo may not occupy the top slot, but they are still making great games, so you can't complain about that, especially since Xbox is also doing better than the gamecube.

For the record, Dreamcast actually started very well. It was little things that started to diminish its success. The 56k online was too early for it's time aswell as too slow. Also, the MGS2 trailer took away A LOT of momentum. After all, MGS1 was a monster success. In the end though, Sony showed a much more appealing product that already had huge userbase at the time. Sony has one of the top marketing teams around and that sure as hell also contributed to the fall of the DC and the possibility of another Sega console.

Yeah, and i think most people would agree if one had to go, it should have been the dreamcast. (yeah i know Xbox has no history so you diehard oldy game fans will say Xbox should go, but it definately is the best system out there in hardware, and has alot of good games, so i think it deserves a spot.

You still play it at your friend's house or something though right?
God Of War has been known to make people cream their pants.
Metal Gear Solid saved a guy from cancer, Ico made a grown man cry, Shadow Of The Colossus raised a warrior and the list goes on....

Even if Sony murdered and raped your family right before your eyes, you still need to experience some of the PS2 titles.

I've played small segments of God of war, and I've finished MGS2 and 3, and I also own Shadow of the colossus, and i must say... IMO, these games are amazing. The gameplay in these games doesn't compare to anything on the Gamecube or Xbox (except SotC, but that game is so visually stunning i don't really care)

If it werent for Sony, I could have owned Streets Of Rage 4 for the Dreamcast.

There's no magic dust sprinkled on Xbox, Gamecube or PS2 that makes all the games on them suck. There are good games for all platforms.

Well, except for Gizmondo and nGage. They do suck. :)

There's two things you can be in this life, a person of good taste, or a fussy nitpicker. You want to be the former.

"Eugh, it's a popular console, eugh it's got jaggies, eugh this, nit pick pick pick"

Don't be like that... Don't be picking the carrots out your food like that.

And this "You ruined my console company" stuff... All the guys who made games for that console, they just go work for other companies. Often the games they make are really.... bad. *cough* Artoon *cough*

Sega were very much rooted in the arcades, so when the arcades went... wither Sega.

that is only a myth. flashlights. now those help you see in the dark. instant results!

if the devs made a Streets of Rage 4 game, you'd be playing it on even better systems than Dreamcast. like Applefiend said, devs will make games for what ever system is alive and kicking.

even though Sega left the hardware realm, I still play their games on multiple systems from PC to handhelds. Virtua Fighter is looking better than ever on PS3, Afterbunrer is a blast on Arcades. Outrun is a thrill on PSP. Monkey Ball plays nicely on DS, Jet Set Radio was a must have for Box, etc.
