Dowie: Writ won't spoil big day
New Charlton Athletic manager Iain Dowie claims he will not let the dramatic issuing of a writ spoil his big day.
Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has served legal notice to his former boss for allegedly making fraudulent statements regarding his reasons for leaving Selhurst Park.
The press conference was interrupted by somebody acting on Jordan's behalf but Dowie does not want it to cloud his appointment at The Valley.
"To be fair, I'm not going to let it sour a good day for me," Dowie informed Sky Sports News.
"If that's what Simon feels, it's what he feels. It totally misrepresented the conversation I had with Simon and my wife witnessed two hours of it.
"I know I've got an agreement at home saying mutual consent. I can look him in the eye as long as I cover myself, that's all I'm ever worried about.
"You'll have to ask Simon about it. I'm here to talk about Charlton. This is a club doing lots of great things like investing in African countries to set up a player conveyor belt, investing in the training ground and I'm making plans for the club so I don't want to be talking about something unneccesary.
"Anyone who knows me [would understand]. I won't bother to comment because he wants us to comment about it. No, I'm not concerned about my future.
"It's not knocked me for six. I'm never surprised so we'll see.
"It's a good day for me and, hopefully, for everyone concerned with Charlton."
Addicks chairman Richard Murray had earlier tried to defuse any row with Palace about the move.
"I know, deep down, Simon is a great admirer of Charlton Athletic," he said.
"That's all I want to say. Things have been blown out of all proportion. He called me a name and I called him a name but it's an emotional game.
"We're in the Premier League and I wish them no ill-will at all.
"You saw my reaction at first. I thought the writ must be a joke, it was like some pantomime scene.
"I don't have a problem. I watched the press conference last Monday saw Iain and Simon had split, we contacted Iain the next day and then had our first interview the day after that.
"I do know Simon has always been rather envious or jealous of Charlton Athletic because we've had probably the success he's been striving for with a wonderful stadium that we own. Maybe he ought to ring me some time.
"We all know Simon is a good businessman. I'm sure if the reason Iain was leaving was for his family to go up north, he'd have put that in the contract. If he hasn't, then maybe Simon hasn't got the best advice.
"Iain is our manager," Murray asserted to Sky Sports News. "I've got a fantastic legal team
"Thing that amazes me about Simon is he writes a lot about me in all the papers but he's never rung me. Maybe he should just pick up the phone and speak to me about it but that's not his style.
"If England have a good result tonight, it'll all be forgotten anyway."

To be honest, I didn't really want Dowie to be the new Charlton manager, seeing as he's come from Palace. Then there's all this legal hoo-ha in the press conference about him saying he wanted to go up North to be with his family. The Valley is 7 miles away from Selhurst. Let's hope this isn't an indication of what's going to happen in the future.
