I'l first appologise for making an entire new topic just to ask a question. The mods are more than welcome to delete this once my question has been answered though.
Ok about the question then - previously, with the release of new consoles a bit size is always quoted. Like the megadrive was 16-bit,N64 was 64-bit ect, ect... Can people just clarify for me what that figure acually relates to? I think it is the width of buses within the machine but i am not certain. And if it is, for which bus are they quoting? And i was wondering if anyone knows what the width of the buses inside the ps3 are?

The PS2 had two vector processor that were 64-bit each, and could be joined together to create the "128-bit" processor.

Also, the PS3 is 64-bit, that the register size does not dictate performance, so it's not a really big deal.

bit performance no longer matters.

64 bit is what most chips use . There really isn't a reason to go higher at this point

systems aren't analog anymore.
