View Full Version : Does it annoy you when a 'better' version of the console you bought comes out.

Such as the PSOne, Slim PS2, DS Lite.
In a lot of things, loyal customers get fucked and they always do things to draw in new customers while the old customers are almost forgotten.
HSBC and Orange mainly took notice of this and are now making deals for the 'old' customers [as well as new] but really, who gives a damn about those.
We need the gaming industry to be nice to loyal customers so I think that loyal customers who bought the console at launch should be able to swap for the "improved" version later on as long as the console is in a good condition.
Anyway, vote/discuss.

I supposed if its that much better than the first design then it could be worth getting the new one.
I do like my DS Lite alot, much more than the first one, so I think it was worth it. But even so, I also find it annoying the all the people who really love the company and get whatever comes out at launch does get ownd later on when the better stuff comes out.

Yeah, it pisses me off a bit. When I bought my Game Boy Pocket, it was soon one-upped by the Game Boy Color, and I wasn't about to rush out and buy a GBC just months after buying a GBP. The same thing goes with the DS Lite. I bought a DS at launch, and then some months down the road they introduce its upcoming improved version. Again, I'm not about to rush out and buy a new DS to replace my fully-functional "old" one.

It doesnt really annoy me that much.
I had the oringal playstation, and an oringal playstation 2. I kinda prefered the oringals, just due to there creativness. I have a slimline ps2, but i would prefer to have a oringal ps2, just cause of the random coolness i like about it. Balls to if its better, usually its just cosmetic changes, and the internal, you can usually buy as an add on.
I understand that companys do improve/redesign a console to help them revitalise console and increase the timespan.
Hell, its pretty sure its going to happen to the ps3 as well in a few years.
Originals are much cooler in my view.

Buying a console at launch is pointless (although I'm still doing it with Wii). You get a short list of games to choose from (and for GameCube none of the games were any good), you get the most expensive price, they may not have fixed all of the problems yet (the launch group is basically just a test group for the rest of the manufacturing process), etc.

The Gamecube had Pikmin...
But still, I kind of agree with you, but usually some must-have games are out before the first price drop, so you might as well get it as launch if you hope to get those games.

Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros Melee was more than a good enough reason for me to get it at launch.

Well you get forewarned, so you go on ebay and quick sell your crappy version.
Sold my DS Heavy about a month ago, got nearly enough money for a DS Lite.
What annoys me is when I buy a rare japanese import video game, then the sodding thing turns up in a super market bargain bin a month later. Grrr.... Gradius V, Taito Legends, etc...
although the question is about game systems, the topic could cover the whole Consumer Electronic sector. there is always a better, newer CE around the corner. that is why I couldn't upgrade my TV for over a decade; the brand new, best of the line, model is way too expensive for me. when I am saving up, a newer, more expensive, better looking, better featured set is out. then another, then another.
but you know what? you have to put your foot down somewhere. keep focus on what you wanted in the first place like the features and what not, rather than focusing on getting the 'new thing' just for the sake of it being 'new'. in many occasions, the price difference between the top of the line and the model right under it isn't justifiable for the actual differences at all. it is just that; they add the price of it being 'new' to it.
as of right now, I am dead lock on a Bravia X 46" for my TV set. but till I know when it will launch and for how much, that decision could change.
as for gaming systems; other than Ninty handhelds, the don't usually get updated annually. so if some changes happen after a year or more from you purchase, I don't see that as a problem. consider that you have been playing it for all that time till the new model came out and that there are people who are just getting into it. if the difference is big enough in your opinion, you could always sell your current model to a shop or someone and add the difference. after all, you want it that much, or else you wouldn't bother.
in review of the whole thing- including CE development- I am excited and enthusiastic. I love advancements and love seeing new things on the market all the time. sure, I want in on the best, but no body can keep up- no body. so do your homework before buying something (the more expensive, the more careful you want to be) and enjoy your purchase to the limit.
a piece of advice, it may help some to not be reading on the latest developments of a CE product you just got so not to downplay your purchase or decisions. don't look too close unless you are interested in a certain tech development or it is time for you to buy a new CE product.

I can understand the PS2 because its been out for a long time. But the DS!!? Come on now! What's next Ultra Lite!!? The original DS is still practically new. Don't get me started on the GB and GBA series. Next time ill wait a few so I can see if I am not getting jacked up again.
