I was just wondering what you thought made a mainstream gamer...Tell me. I'll post my opinion later.

Poeple who buy things because they think they are cool. They often by what is ever advetrised the most, and is related to what they like. (matrix, DBZ, etc)

They only play 3 hours a month, and buy bad games, wasting thier money.

Well, I could consider myself a mainstream gamer because I buy most Nintendo games released, and those are generally very popular games. There really is no "underground" in the video game biz, a game is either good or it's not good. There are a few exceptions, such as Eternal Darkness and PDO, which are excellent but don't sell at all.

Someone who buys games such as sports games year after year, and only the most popular titles. Most of them don't like RPG's or strategy, but they tend to like FPS.

I dont think liking first person shooters makes someone a mainstream gamer. Its just that they like action and not reading boring stories on TV and pushing one button over and over to find out that some stupid magic castle is in need of help from a stupid hero which always turns out to be YOURselF...oooooooo, sounds like fun, NOT!

I thought Enter the Matrix was a decent game...not great mind you, or even just darn good, but it wasnt horrible like people make it out to be. And I DO know games....I write news and mod another forum.

I think damn near everyone is a mainstream gamer these days. The game scene has become a part of the mainstream crowd. Sure, there are the games that everyone buys like GTA and Madden...but thats because the games are damn good. Everyone is mainstream when it comes to gaming.

Yeah, of course there are the few oddballs, but I think the "mainstream" of games are also the mainstream gamers. Meaning, the majority of gamers out there are also mainstream gamers. Most gamers know what is goin on in the gaming world. Most are more into gaming then some people know.

But I do know what you guys are talkin bout. I know guys that just buy Madden, or GTA, just because thats all they hear about, so thats all they know.

Mainstream gamers are people who buy only things like racing and shooting games, they don't buy games with any depth, and they hardly play their games. I don't think you'd see a Mainstreamer buying KOTOR or FF...

I disagree. When a FF game comes out, it is a relatively big happening in the gaming world. I think they are all over those. They just stop halfway through. Then say that it sucks.

A mainstream gamer is someone who has ps2 and the following games only. GTA: Vice City and/or Tony Hawk. They also have to think that SSB:M sucks because it's too hard.

Mainstream gamers usually go after the games that are seen on TV or as most of you have said, sports games. Games that have commercials usually provide exposure to the mainstream audience. Most dedicated gamers are keeping an eye on things closely, but mainstream gamers need a more direct approach.

There....Thats it....that extended phrase....mainstream CASUAL gamers. Gaming has and is still becoming more mainstream, ergo (shoutout to CJ), all gamers are becoming mainstream in some aspect. But the difference between people like me, a mainstream gamer, and people who are mainstream casual gamers is the fact that I know what the hell I am talking about, not in just one bland area, like which game is the best, but in many areas.
