View Full Version : When you buy the PS3, what type of TV would you be using?

I don't know if they had a thread like this, but:
When I buy the PS3 I will have a regular old TV. But later, I am getting a Samsung 50" 1080p Full HD DLP Projection TV with Dual HDMI High Definition Inputs. It only will cost me $2699.99. I am getting it in August of next year for my birthday. The price would have died down to about $1999.99. How about you?

Been racking my brains about this for a while, I might get this 26 inch (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824022009), or this 32 inch (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824022013), depending on my budget and whether I want the TV on the wall, thinking I might just get a 26 inch. I'd love to get one of the Bravia's, but I can't qualify for financing :(

I still don't expect that I'll have the cash to spare for a PS3 for quite some time, but if and when I do get one and if at that time I still have my present set, it'll be a 27" SDTV, and not even flatscreen. If my financial situation ever improves to the point that I can blow this kind of cash, I'm not sure whether I'll get a HDTV or PS3 first.

HDMI to DVI if you can.
I'm using an HP 23 inch LCD Monitor with component inputs, HP 2335. Currently have a PS2, Dreamcast, Saturn, Gamecube and.. 360 plugged into it. Goes higher res than 1080p, 1920x1200 at 60Hz. Under my table there's a Sony Home Cinema System pumping out 5.1 DD.
Not into big TVs for games. I'd like a 1080p 26 inch TV as real TVs are better for older games.

Going from a 14" Philips crt, to a Bravia 26" S-series lcd HDTV at some point before launch. I know I am paying a premium over a Samsung/Toshiba/JVC, but their SD PQ almost makes me physically sick, and CRT HDTV's do not exist in Europe.

Sif, I know it's asking a lot, but I would suggest waiting till next year before making a new TV purchase. I would guarantee prices will drop, plus new 1080P televisions with better refresh rates will hit the market later this year. That's my 2 cents...

Sif, I know it's asking a lot, but I would suggest waiting till next year before making a new TV purchase. I would guarantee prices will drop, plus new 1080P televisions with better refresh rates will hit the market later this year. That's my 2 cents...
The thing is, on anything less than 40" 1080p is pretty pointless IMO, and I only need a 26" for my pokey university accomodation, plus it is all I can afford. The cheapest 1080p panel in the UK is £3300, OR £6000 if you want a plasma, something a student may struggle with. Thanks for the advice though :thumbr:

I'm currently using my 32" Samsung HDTV, for a PC monitor, I bought it to do High Def video editing with my HDR-FX1e 1080i Handycam. I can't wait for PS3 for Blu-Ray alone as my new TV REALLY SHOWS HOW POOR DVD IMAGES ARE.
It's like looking at old VHS tapes, except worse because of all the digital artefacts (sometimes noisey VHS images enhanced the viewing pleasure by hiding poor special effects etc in a grainy image).
Anyway, those that say we're not ready for HDTV are just plain wrong (IMO).
Oh and by the way, have you ever tried an SD Web Browser, It's a headache inducing nightmare of fuzzy unreadable content. HDTV is needed now.

From all reviews available now 2407 cant display 1080i picture. 480p and 720p picture is Okay though. So...I'm not getting it if it can not display a 1080i picture. I could buy a new today, but I'll wait 'til spring 2007. I can't afford to buy a new set every year, so I'll get it right the first time. The PS3 will live for 6 years atleast.
