Sure GT4 could do 1080i and with the PS3 it can be upscaled to produce 720p and 1080p as well.

But it's irrelevant, really.

This game needs to improve dramatically. All of the resolution increases in the world won't change that. Therein leading to Polyphony's problem. So concerned with the visuals of the game, while they're making the most elementary mistakes within crucial gameplay.

I know exactly what you mean...
I think back in the day we were blown away with good 3D gameplay.
I believe people's expectations are very aggressive now, everyone is looking for photorealism in racing games, GT4 flirted with this, but we still have a way to go.(damn uncanny valley...)

I believe we will be blown away by GT5 and it will be the closest thing we see to that photorealism goal. I doubt we will see GT5 until 2008 or perhaps 2009 and it will take advantage of the storage capacity of Blu-ray.

Are they going to make a game out of this ? Could it be that they are doing this to penetrate their online skills and push and polish it so when GT5 comes its perfect. Anyone with a better theory? How big is the team btw as im sure they are pretty long gone with GT5 anyway.

GT4 PS2 doesn't really do 1080i native, it looks identical to the 480p output from GT4. What they did was reprogram the PS2s video chip to upscale the output to a 1080i signal, it's not generating a 1920 × 1080 image at all.

But aren't Polyphony clever buggers for even trying that.
