View Full Version : Game Informer: Uninformed?

If anyone has subscribed to Game Informer, they will see how unreliable they are. If you see in the June issue of Game Informer, it misinformes you, in Issue 158 on page 102, that Crysis will be for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC. Instead of misleading people, they should of only put the console the game was confirmed for. The articles that they create are always shoddy and looked like a Kindergardener wrote it. This is not the only "mistake" made. It happened several times last year with Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerebus coming for the PSP even though it was only for the PS2 and several other incidents. Well, I guess you can not expect much for a magazine that comes free when you purchase the Gamestop/EB Game card, something that I will not ever do.

Also, are there any other magazines that are good enough to read and/or reliable?

Official PLaystation Magazine is pretty good...PSM messes up sometimes but there OK. That's all I can speak for honestly. But I think the internet is probably the most reliable bre'. THere's a lot of trash out there yeah. But magazines are published. If they make a mistake-they have to wait for another issue just to fix it. Just browse all the gamesites and offical blogs and stuff and u should be OK...

We've written a few articles on how badly GI messes up.

However, When contacted by GameSpot, an EA rep said that "Crysis is currently being developed solely as a PC product."

IGN doesn't have Crysis listed for either system as well so currently the game is not planned (publicly announced that is) for either console, PC only.

I tend to disregard any monthly publications featuring any kind of news (unless they contain exclusive news or pictures) since the Internet makes these totally outdated by the time they are printed.

The only magazine I really read is Electronic Gaming Monthly, they are pretty good.

A great invention called the Internet made magazines obsolete...
Nah , I'm just kidding some mags get exclusive pics, but overall most breaking news comes from the internet, soooo :whogives:

I subscribe to GI and I like it. I always take the articles with a grain of salt though because i get all my news from these forums. But the oh so pretty pictures keep me a subscriber. Every once in a while they have a good article, like the GOW2 article and Assassin's Creed...

I've got issues of Game Informer and GamePro (I think those are the two) but didn't pay for them. They were a result of free subsciptions for getting cards at GameCrazy and somewhere else. I go online for news but the magazines are something to read on breaks at work.

EDGE Magazine is awesome. Its really professional and well written, and the art is amazing. The front covers always make me want to buy it.

Tha Assassin Creed article was a good one but it is like one every 100 bad ones. Also I am looking into EGM, EDGE and OPM.

Overall I would say that Game Informer just isn't a very good magazine. The only thing that really is quality in it are the exclusive cover preview articles that they have every month. The Bioshock preview is still the best one I've read in years, and the information provided by it is second to none really. Their reviews, on the other hand, are down right awful. They make no sense as what is written is usually contradictory to what score is given. They'll list all these positives about some game and then give it a 6/10. It makes no sense. Take Monster Hunter, a game that they've consistently ranked obscenely lower than anyone else in the industry. They don't even review the game, rather they save it for the end of the magazine and devote a small 2x2 inch section for it and bash it as much as they can in the small space they denote for it.

Oh and I forgot to mention about the systems. Just in the issue you read they screwed up the following games and listed the wrong systems:

-Mercenaries 2
-Lego Starwars 2
-Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
-Rayman 4: Raving Rabbids
-Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
-Crysis

Oh and can anyone tell me what the hell "Unlimited Enabled" means? It's on like half the games previewed and I haven't found anything in the magazine that tells me what this means.

EGM is good

Yeah I get EGM and I like it. Sure you can find 99% of the same information quicker online, but I'm lazy, and getting a magazine in the mail for some reason is easier for me than sitting at my computer, which I already do. :p

Yeah it seems that the articls look like it was done by high school drop outs. I was reading Mercenaries 2 and I thought to my self, "How in the heck can you make a mistake like that especially in Lego Starwars 2!!? The always bash like that. If it is good they put up a big article. If it was bad, then they put it off where no one could see it. In one of the articles, that they gave a one to, they bashed it so moch that I couldn't read it.

"Unlimited Enabled"?? Hmm...Yeeah..I don't now what the hell that means either. They need to put in that little box what the heck that means instead of putting thngs most people know about.

I think Unlimited Enabled means they have information up about it on their online website.
