View Full Version : I just had an amazing revelation.

You know, I was really adamant about buying a PS3... but then it hit me. $600 is just way too much money to be spending on my personal entertainment. I mean, I work hard for my money 6 days a week... why would I want to sit at home, in front of my TV, enjoying my money instead of spending it on more responsible things like gas, beer, and other necessities of life?

So, then I was considering getting a 360... but $400 for personal entertainment is still $400 less I could use on more responsible things like the ones I listed above. I mean, I work 6 days a week... why would I want to see that money going towards stationary personal entertainment at home?

Then I was considering buying a Wii... but that ~$200 still isn't free. I guess I'll just stick to the current generation consoles.

But what do you know? Games cost like, $50 each. That's a full tank of gas and food for two for a few days! I work hard for my money, and I shouldn't squander it foolishly on luxuries... I should save it like a responsible adult.

And why am I still paying for broadband internet? It's more expensive than dial up. And why use dial up? That's still money I could use on better things than the internet. And my computer... hell, having it on is running up my power bill... and my air conditioner I could manage to live without. Soda? Not necessary. I can drink tap water... but tap water runs up my water bill, so I'll go drink rain water. But it would be stupid to spend money to purify it, so I'll only drink when it's raining outside, and I'll face the sky and open my mouth to be refreshed.

I guess I could get by just drinking rain water and eating small rodents(alive so I don't spend potential cash on using my gas stove) and berries that grow on my neighbor's bush.

You guys really need to be more responsible with your money like I'm going to be. Spending all this money to entertain yourselves is foolish and immature. Every dollar you spend is a dollar less to your food, gas, rent, bills, and retirement fund. Just go to work every day, eat as stingily as possible, and don't spend an extra cent having fun. It's not like you'll go insane because you don't have a PS3 or something fancy. Life isn't meant to be fun, it's meant to be monotonous, systematic, and boring.

What does it matter what I spend on Entertainment? So long as I have enough money to buy food and other necessities then spending $600+ on a console is irrelevant.

I'm not going to go on about my own personal expenses, but I know that I'll be able to afford it and still live a fairly comfortable lifestyle.

Edit ::

I just read your whole post, you're being sarcastic right? *rolls eyes*

The last paragraph!

Which I foolishly didn't read before posting a reply.

I think we're headed in the right direction where console prices and entertainment in general is concerned. $600.00 pricetag on consoles, $60.00 pricetag, on games, $3,000.00 plasma tvs .. all this means less money for food, and thus a slimmer healthier America. Its the end of obesity. If it costs u $50.00 to fill up the tank, and $10.00 to watch a movie, then there will less leftover to get the extra large popcorn.

Sitting in front of a 32" Plasma with your PS3 goes hand in hand with the fattiest, deep fried food that you can get. ;)

Speaking of which, I'm planning on buying a Sony 60" SXRD TV when the new model with HDMI 1.3 comes out. Man, I saw the current model at Best Buy last week and was like... "Price? Doesn't matter. Must have."

Then logic kicked in, and I decided if it has 1080P, it'd be best to wait for the model that has HDMI 1.3 and can accept native 1080P. Man, "summer 2006" can't come fast enough.

*drools*

I'd love a 60", but there's no way that I could afford it. I'd be tempted to sell off a Kidney, but I'll have to think about it. I'm thinking of either getting a 32" or 42" Samsung along with my PS3, but I'm getting the feeling that 32" will be more than enough for me.

The SXRD is like... $4000ish(the new model, the price isn't listed yet).

The one I was looking at was $3000 on sale, which isn't that bad. Sure, it's really expensive for a single TV, but it's a great TV that will provide me with everything I want from a TV for the next... 5-10 years.

Plus, playing Resistance on it will make me happy.

Believe me, if I had the money, I really, really would.

On the other hand, my Girlfriend wouldn't!

:whip:

Homer: Well, I really should discuss this with my wife.

Salesman: [scoffs] Your wife? [cracks an imaginary whip]

Homer: What, you think I'm going to buy a $20,000 truck just because you
make that noise?

Salesman: [does it again] [and again] [and again]

Homer: [on his knees] I'll take it!

Funny story. My girlfriend is going to help buy the TV.

I guess I'm lucky.

What I find interesting about all this is a lot of the new releases that won't be making it to the PS3 are being released as multi-platform titles - including those like the PS2. Since the successor is fully backwards compatible, or damn near, the its library suddenly become more intertesting.

WOw, if I was not such the conspiracy theorist/factologist dat I bee. I would be slashing my wrist over you revelations. No my friend, you take on things would lead anyone to a deep depression. You know why not even the rich likes to pay things like taxes. Cause there as to WHo and WHAT is YOUR money being used on.

Im sorry, let me make you angry for a second:

Electricity - nikola tesla > Big businesses use is inventions to put money in their pockets, not to provide humankind with free energy for the rest of our loves, as he intended. Engineering has lightbulbs and such that cna last forever. You have things if made the way they supposed to, should never degrade.

Water - nuff said, we pay for this, with all the borgonomics taxation, government should handle this. From whatever form of government from egypt to now. Irrigation and water was a governing body situation. Not to be charged.

Beer - go distill your own, buy a few earthboxes and grow your ingredients. www.earthbox.com , use along with this www.sonicbloom.com.

I need to go to health and bookstore, but this last one, this guy was ran off the road, and threatened. For this invention he longed to bring to us. this one should make you mad:

And we are here hemorrhaging money for gas.

I honestly spend an astronomical amount on electronic gaming and hardware, but I make other compensations in my life. I drive an older beat up car, my homes are usually project houses in which I rebuild/repair to put back on the market, I dont drink or do drugs (anymore  ) etc. If push came to shove I would ride a shwinn and live with my mammy for my hobby (well that is as long as I could convince my woman that this would be a reasonable solution).

But anyways I do what I love and I love what I do.:salute:

Spending all this money to entertain yourselves is foolish and immature. Every dollar you spend is a dollar less to your food, gas, rent, bills, and retirement fund.
Van Gogh cut off his ear and sold it so hw can buy paint to color. is that crazy or justified? someone doesn't care much for looks to buy expensive clothes, but he loves his kickass expensive home theater. is that okay or is he foolish? someone else rather have an end of the line cell phone than eating a meal at a fancy restaurant, how about that?

th epoint is, what we see as petty or wortheless may mean the world to others. I am not talking about gaming or electronics here. I am talking generally and covering the bigger picture.
so who are we to judge what is worth and what isn't worth it to others? if they are happy, if they are content then that is what matters.

you are very reasonable saying paying bills are more important. but I get the idea that you think all of us are spoiled brats who use mommy's money to buy toys. well, some of us have families of our own and have jobs to support ourselves. personally, I save up for big purchases. I can never afford to pay a grand or two on the fly. I know what I want and I save up for it.
of course, I still have my priorities, so rest assure -despite the general consensus here- I am not crazy. I just have a great passion for the few things in life that bring me joy.

never redicule others' passions. ;)

Van Gogh was also drunk on abseth or whatever its called when he cut it off .

As for spending money , its all fine to spend it on what you want .

I don't buy expensive clothes (well i buy some suits for work but even then not expensive ones) , I don't go to fancy resturants . I do buy expensive gadgets .

But I buy what I need. I bought a vx 9800 the day it came out so I could use my phone for the gym . I could use the mp3 functions while running and I didn't need to carry my ipod . However I could have bought a trio at 300$ more . But what did I need it for ?

I bought a good movie camera , i could have gotten one at 1k , but i bought the 300$ one because it fits my needs .

Spending reasonably is fine. SPending where you have no money to spend if something happens or worse , having no money and charging it to your card , is stupid and will land you in very bad situations

and always, ALWAYS, save something for a rainy day. these are basic things people. always have a plan B. always.

to add to that, never neglect your responsibilities. for example, if you live alone, you can do anything. starve to save up for an HDTV, if you want it that much. but if you have people that rely on you, then you have to think of them first.

I don't have to mention all this really. it's a given.
