January 29, 2004 - Breaking from tradition (and perhaps common sense) Codemasters has declined to bring the fourth iteration of its flagship racing game, Colin McRae Rally 4, to the PC or PS2 in North America, IGN learned today.

Already available in Europe on all three systems (PS2, PC and Xbox), Colin McRae Rally 4 outperforms its predecessor with more modes of play, more cars to play, a better collision system and an even more enhanced physics system (though it's hard to see how it could be any better).

When IGN contacted Codemasters, a company representative explained that Microsoft did not persuade the veteran English developer to jump the PC and PS2 in North America. Instead, Codemasters explained that Xbox Live was the perfect fit with its online design. Which makes little sense at all. Especially given that the game is already online in Europe for the PC. And the US Xbox version isn't even actually playable online, it just updates stats via Xbox Live.

We'll have more on Colin McRae Rally 4 in the near future, maybe.

Wow, that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever, especially the Xbox has, arguably, rally racing's best series in RalliSport Challenge.
