Topic. I saved 375 dollars (whoo-hoo). Just another 400 dollars to go yay!! I think I might have to starve myself for a couple of weeks but it will be for the best. I am also going to probraly sell my PSP w/ games and my DS. What about you?

4.5 months. That's $100 per month or $25 per week/almost $4 per day.
I think you can manage that.
I haven't saved anything yet due to not really needing to save up.
I don't need to save. I have student loans to come to the rescue. I'm getting a new LCD HD TV for Christmas and a PS3, so, Christmas shall be grand. Just so I don't feel like a complete bastard I'm going to donate a hefty amount of money to charity. ;)

Well, I'll be picking up the $600 PS3 with Resistance, Warhawk, Untold Legends, and Lair if it's a launch title, plus a second controller.
I'm hoping to get a 26inch HDTV within the next few months.

Im not too concerned with saving money my main concern is getting the console before the holidays. At this point Im not even sure if there are any titles that Im looking forward too (360 and PC lineup are looking grand for the fall - holidays).
Once Im assured my console is on pre-order Ill probably allocate about a 100 a week or so.

I can afford a 600 € PS3, a second controller, as many games as I would want to buy at launch and a 26" HDTV (I don't "need" a bigger one), no problem about it. Thanks to freelance translation jobs, since I haven't finished my studies yet and I don't have a proper job to depend on.

Don't really need to save but I won't be getting one at launch-I need at least one AAA game before I pick up a system so I'll be waiting for the reviews and feedback from people who have it on day one. I'll be find tho-Gears of War should turn out great and hold me over till the AAA games began to show up...

I've never been in the US for a major console launch, I don't really think I want to line up over night, would pre-ordering one when the US retailers start offering pre-orders get me one around launch or should I just walk into WalMart on launch day like I did with the PS3?

PS3 in 2006 is really soon anyway. Sony just didn't need to release it this year. Blame Microsoft for sacrificing Xbox 1 just after 4 years in the market, rush 360 and make Sony and Nintendo rush their new home consoles.
Well, I'm thinking of going the bundle route from Play.com. It's hard to say at the moment because they're one of the only retailers I know of offering bundles, so, time will tell.

I agree with Wounding's response the 360 and PC will have some strong titles launching in the fall... I will be playing Gears of War, Crysis & Rainbow Six, but I will still get a PS3 if I can get on a preorder list...
(I just have to own the lastest and greatest thing...)
Honestly I'm not sure what game I would purchase with the PS3 at launch, the only "launch window" title that has me excited is Heavenly Sword...
I'm taking a wait and see stance with the other 1st party launch titles, I will use Gamefly to get a couple of games.
If money is tight for anyone I would suggest waiting for a price drop, because more AAA titles will be available and you would avoid any buggy hardware that always occurs with any new hardware device. Peace

I got the money ready for the PS3 with an extra controller and a couple of titles, but it doesn't seem like I'm going to grab a PS3 yet. There are really no attractive titles coming up launch, however I will be grabbing ten titles for the PS2, 6-7 titles for the DS, 2 titles for the PSP, on for the GC, and half a dozen titles along with the Wii!
My wallet's gonna hurt real bad.

Uhm, I guess it's about 50 cent right now... But I've already made the calculations, and I'm only 40$ short of affording the PS3, come November 17.
If I don't buy anything else the rest of the year... Ahem, I'll manage somehow!!!

Graduation gifts!! Whoo-hoo!! Also I get a food allowance, but just not enough to buy me a PS3 for Christmas or my birthday. I just remember (as I was typing this) that I have a B-Day coming up :) 400+ dollars from family and probraly a used car. I was thinking of getting a job, but for some strange reason my mom and dad wouldn't let me; probraly because of school work. I am going to become a Pharmacy Tech. January of next year (after I pass that horrible test this year). Damn it not being 18.

LoL. The PS3??!! That is literally impossible unless you said you gained a few pounds. :) As for the Wii, you can put the controllers in your pocket and the Wii in the back of your pants. LoL. No one will notice. :)

How much money has been saved for the PS3 so far?
So far... $0.
I don't save money that way. I save money, but not saving up for a specific purpose. It's like my cash reserve sitting there for whatever I need it for, which is almost always for bills. From time to time I splurge just a little bit and buy games or whatever. I've got enough money in the bank to buy a $600 PS3 and a modest HDTV, but the vast majority of that money will end up going to bills sooner or later.
I'll spend money on a Wii and a handful of games for it first. I still intend to get a PS3, but it just isn't going to happen in 2006.

I gots no money saved up for the ps3 (I need a job) lol. But i don't plan on getting it until 07'. I have no desire to get the PS3 on launch (just like i didn't with the PS2). Especially since launch consoles tend to have glitches and get sold out fast.

Yup, credit cards are financial suicide, don't get one. One month you'll slip and not pay off the full amount, and it'll start to mount up.. and up... If it's worth getting save up for it.
But you know... It is too late for me...

A credit card is a very valuable way to build credit. It may be in many people best interest to actually have a credit card, although make your purchases wisely grasshoppers.
My friend told me that it's actually a good idea to get store credit cards with small limits such as £250 etc... They're easier to pay off and you can build up quite a good credit rating with them. Of course, I haven't got a clue as to what he's talking about. I really no nothing about building credit.

Well Im not partial to specific store credit cards but essentially he is right. Building credit is extrememly important later in life for advanced purchases.
Another popular method is taking small loans from banks.
Best way is to get a debit card, with a huge overdraft facility like mine (hehe taken me 2 years to get off my overdraft)

I use a bank check card/debit for nearly all of my online purchases and lack of cash purchases. They are the greatest thing since cotton candy.:thumbr:
I've been so tempted to get a student overdraft, as I wouldn't actually have to start paying it off until I graduate and it's interest free. But, I'm just too scared. I'll stick with Student loans from the SLC, as it's easy street. :)

you are truly a better man than me Fats, I dont think I could resist:angel:
See, that's the thing, it's a BANK lol. It's not a few people that have decided that we can take £4,500 loans out and not have to pay them back until we're earning over £15,000 a year AND at that point we'd only have to pay back £15 a month.
Seems too good to be true! :shifty:

15 a month until you die
Yeah thats just not realistic wheres the fine print.
LOL maybe the interest would be 15 a month
Nope, well, the Interest is at the same rate of inflation. Get this though, if you don't pay the loan off within 25 years they stop it! I'll get you a link lol.
LMAO - Check out the repayment calculator.

*cough*or ebay ps3 :P*cough*
not bad for a 15 year old. plus i get a little price drop on the ps3, something like 10-20% because my aunt works at currys
How i have this money without a job? Taking shitty food from home for lunch and saving my lunch money (£60 a month) for about 8 months, plus christmas

I've never gotten a system at launch. The games look really bad compared to what's offered the next year-a lot of the systems you have to send in because of bugs and it just cost too damn much. I've got $200 on my EB card for some trade-ins I've made so I guess you could count that. Really tho-I think come October I'm just gonna but Xbox 360 with Gears of War, FF12, and Rouge Galaxy. With my EB card I should be able to get all of this for like $300! Plus I could get the classic Xbox titles I've been wanting to play for so long. This should surely hold me over till 07 since RPG's are nearly 60-80hrs nowadays and FPS are endless with a friend. So yeah-I'll be waiting for that first BIG PS3 game to come before I charge $600+ on my credit card. 360 came out first so it's BIG guns are hitting already and FF12-nuff said.. (not to jump the gun but i think it's safe to say that Gears of War will be AWESOME!)
For me, my rule is-if it's not AAA or got a score of 9.0 or higher-then It shouldn't be in my game library unless it's old and preowned. There is nothing but classics like GT, GoW, FF, and Guitar Hero is my gaming collection. Even though it's really early-no PS3 titles has given me the impression that they offer the same quality. I'll wait for TGS for more on that-but right now the only game that Screaming "PLAY ME!" is Final Fantasy 12 and Gears of War...well that's it for my rant-lol
btw: Credit Cards can really save your life and any1 who holds back because they are scared of financial issues are really only hurting themselvs. It's actually really simple. Make people think your reliable by always paying your bill on time (even if you miss a big one-u make it up as soon as possible) then down the road when u need that 15,000 loan to start ur own work or for that car u wanted-you'll have the money waiting for u on credit.
