Sounds good! I might actually try this since I only play Mortal Kombat...I need to try a new fighter. I don't like VF or DOA maybe I'll try Tekken next. 96/100 is pretty good. We just need someone who isn't a fanboy of Tekken to review ths. 60 fps is good and no slowdown is great because slowdown and fighting games just don't mix. The game sharing is cool and unfortunetly...no infrastructure...oh well we saw that one coming. The guys at Namco said that fighters aren't good over the internet because of possible slowdown. Mortal Kombat: Deception was able to do it....

This is seriously shaping as a killer app. I'm starting to be very faithful on PSP's game catalog. It's going to become really solid for me; I have bought just 4 games since I purchased it last September, but I feel I'll end up having no less than 15 games by the end of PSP's life. Besides, it's getting more and more features with every firmware upgrade and accessories will make it only better. And it will get cheaper too.
PSP has a brilliant future.

Same here VG! Actually I have bought 5 games since the launch. I traded in Coded Arms because I finally realized it was painfully repeptitive. I have only four now but the fall and winter seem promising with LocoRoco, Mortal Kombat Deception-Unchained, Call of Duty 3, Killzone: Liberation and others. But, I don't think this will be THE killer app. I still think Syphon Filter is as of now.

I wish they'd bring over the Soul Calibur franchise to PSP. Perhaps Tekken DR is a test run of the numbers they can pull? I heard it did really well for a PSP game in the first few days of sales, selling about 75,000 copies in the first day.

I'll be going for this title for sure. Maybe I'll have around 5 PSP titles by December but no PSP. T_T

Im going to review it since I have the game >_<....
UMMMM...This game just rocks on the psp...Im more of a MK fan, but this game is an identical port of the ps2...graphics are just to good...game play is sweet...here a small video its kind of blurry...used a kodak camera ...
Game: 9.5/10
As for how many games I actually play...theres only about 6 good games I enjoy, on the little system and this game is fun.

Really you're an MK fan and you like this game? Maybe I SHOULD rent this from gamefly when it comes out. I don't like any other fighters besides MK but if this guy it all MK and he likes it maybe I should check it out too. I can't wait for MK Deception Unchained

I just picked up Tekken:DR last night, it's definitely a great looking game. Plays almost PS2 perfect, I didn't really notice the image ghosting as it was mentiioned in the IGN review. Some of the sounds are a lil weak, D-pad is an issue, but overall it's a great game

I would cry if I had less than 15 games by the end of PSP's life. My portable library needs at least 25 to feel complete. Since I've now got need nearly 40 games for my DS, I wholly expect my PSP collection (which stands at about 8 right now :hurt:) to expand like crazy with all these awesome games coming out.

I just got the game today, I know...I'm lame, and I have to say that Dark Resurrection is definitely worth any fighting fans purchase.
From the impressive graphics engine spitting out gameplay at a solid 60 fps, to an even wider assortment of characters with updated move lists and move timings; Tekken: Dark Resurrection has it all.
Even all of the sounds are still bone crunching as ever. I do miss the old stage music...and the old stages (well stage variation anyways), but what they have now is still solid as ever.
I was definitely surprised by the two new additions to the Tekken franchise..even Armor King. Dragonav and Lily are definitely unique to the Tekken character design formula (however unbelievable it sounds), but they play fantastically and with great fluidity. Dragonav is probably one of the most dangerous characters in the game as he is like Bryan Fury and King combined into one, with every single one of his move combinations being insanely powerful. Lily is definitely an odd one to see as she seems to be sort of an Anna reject at first, but you will fall in love with her insanely stylish fighting style.
Now Armour King is probably the biggest surprise of all when it comes to roster additions. With Kings insanely deep move list, you'd think there wouldn't be a need for his darker clone anymore, but WRONG...! Armour King manages to shine through after all these years. He is physically larger than King and boasts a fighting style closer to Marduk in nature, although he is still grapple heavy like his apprentice.
There isn't much to say about Dark Resurrection that is negative other than the fact that the controls will take some definite getting used to since the dpad on the PSP isn't designed as well in respect to fighting games. Prepare for some frustration when performing moves that require a few complicated dpad strokes other than the basic cardinal directions, but don't fret; You will soon get used to it (or throw your PSP in utter rage when you lose an important match because of the unresponsive dpad).
With all this said, the biggest surprise of all is that the talented devs at Namco have managed to do all of this impressive technical work with an underclocked PSP. Imagine how much prettier the game would look and run with the PSP running at full speed? Talk about pure nirvana!!!
Anyways, if my previous words didn't give you the message then this last sentence sure will...
Go out an buy the game now dammit!!!! :)

08-01-2006, 05:12 AM
Those were all things I thought when I bought the game..save that the framerate skips at the intro for the battle skips a few frames here and there and that the Dpad really isn't that bad except for when it comes to the shoryuken motion. Then it takes some getting used to. Other than that it is the best game in the series and is a benchmark that tekken 6 will be held up to.

Help a Tekken newbie out.
I am playing the Story Battle mode. How do you save your progress in that? Does it allow you to save every few matches? I have played up to 6 matches and haven't been able to save. Do I have to play out the full set of matches before it saves the information?

are there any plans to "unleash" the CPU beast in the feature?
I remember reading about it before, but my memory doesnt serve me like it used to. Too old too soon I guess.
Anyways, how underclocked is it anyways?
Edit:
On topic, I just picked up this game yesterday, and I have to say I'm impressed with the functionality and of course the graphics. I thought I was playing the PS2 for a moment, only to be sorely reminded the demise of my dear companion.
The game is most assuredly a must for any fighter fan. Off-topic again, but does anyone remember the Bloody Roar series? I'd love to wrap my hands around this great franchise again on my lil PS2 replacement

I actually talked about the whole 222Mhz thing in the GTA: Vice City Stories thread, but Sony has yet to mention any word as to when SDK's will be able to be used at 333MHz.
The PSP's aren't underclocked, it's just that the dev kits are locked to 222MHz so devs can't make games at the PSP's full potential.
When it comes to the whole Bloody Roar idea...I don't exactly share the same fondness for the series.
The art design and fighting mechanics need a humongous overhaul.

I didn't pick Old Timer as my name for nothing, I played almost every damn fighting game. I was almost living in the arcades back in 1995 LoL, then I realized it was time to get back to the books :book:
Yea Bloody Roar was a great fighting game I paid about $85 at an import shop I was that crazy wow lol, the original came out of nowhere with it's incredle flashy transformations, or what my friends used to all a seizure attack waiting to happen lol, it had some great character designs and excellent moves. But like so many other fighting games they just didn't push the envelope in the following versions and kinda died out, I would download it on my PSP if possible.

I just picked up this game and as fun as it may be, I find that I don't always enjoy the battle system. It places way too much emphasis on completely dominating the opponent, with out any leeway, I dont like being punished because I can't launch a character in mid air and strike him 8 times before he falls, kick him twice while he's down and then power punch him in to a wall completly demolishing his health bar.
Though I like tekken bowl, gold rush and the command game. The graphics are unrivaled and the music always puts me in the mood. I also got a friend of mine to open up my PSP and raise the d-pad in order to do diagnals more efficiently (its amazing for Street Fighter Alpha 3).
Overall I would say this game is damn good and deserves the high score it received, I just personally perfer Soul Calibur. I guess I just need more practice in timing and need to get better at connecting combos (at least for this game), if anyone can help out with advice for the game it would be most appreciated.
Til then I will continue on the road to be crowned the King of the Iron Fist Tournamen 5 for the 14th time. <while also hoping that Namco decides to port over Soul Calibur to the PSP as well as they have for Tekken dark resurection>

The only way to get better is practice, play better fighters and steal their techniques. Then make your own and destroy all comers, oh by the way what tournaments have you been in? I've played many a Tekken master in NY, way back in 1998. You win some you lose some, but always learn.

If you have a hard time coming up with your own, just use combo videos to find a bases of what moves work in what positions while juggling.
