Would Sony effectively ban used games by making it impossible to play them on the PS3? It's not likely, but analysts believe that this patented technology could still be considered (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=13200) in some form as a way to deter games piracy and to protect other entertainment downloaded to the PS3.

Sony already made an official statement not too long ago confirming they wouldn't use that technology for PS3 games. Analysts can say whatever they want, but they are not the ones who know all about the industry.

I don't think you read it well.

The analysts are saying that while it won't be used for PS3 games, it could be used on entertainment downloads.

I read it now for the first time and I still think it won't happen, not in the worst way at least.

Really, analysts shouldn't be taken so seriously. Even the conclusion of the article is that Sony wouldn't just shoot themselves in the foot.

To me the analysts are really saying that Sony wouldn't do this because it would literally be suicide. Thats pretty much the conclusion the article comes to. I mean I would hope that Sony (and any corporation for that matter) would not be stupid enough to add this type of technology to all of their games or even to some of their content as the article suggested.
