Jaffe hints at God of War 3

Among the inner sanctums of game development, David Jaffe is known as something of a paradox--a guy with a knack for both self-deprecating humor and self-promotion. He certainly displayed his dual nature in a post on his personal blog this week, where, after poking gentle fun at himself, he proceeded to talk up his latest project, God of War 2 for the PlayStation 2.

"I can tell you that God of War 2 is shaping up very, very nicely," he boasted in a July 10 post headlined "ESCAPE FROM L.A." "I played a bunch of levels last week and it's really, really fun. The art and music is much better than the first game and there is some damn fine level design going on in the new game. ... This is the second act of a bigger story."

Then Jaffe went on to pique the interest of Kratos groupies everywhere by saying it is looking increasingly likely that there will be a God of War 3. "When you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series," he said. "But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the God of War trilogy."

Jaffe was quick to qualify his comments by saying, "You never know, but that's me just putting it out there." However, his statement is further indication that a third chapter in the series is being planned, planned, at least by Jaffe. Sony had not commented on its plans for the franchise beyond God of War II, which is currently slated to hit PS2s in February 2007.

I honestly can't imagine them not making a third God of War after the huge success the first one was and the success the second one will surely have. Also in all of the bonus features of the original the developers kept saying things like "If only we had more memory and power, we could have done what we really wanted."

Well you would be suprised of how much better a game trilogy gets with each game.

Just as long as it's on PS3. Know how it goes, the rule of Sonic/Tomb Raider/etc.

First game is great, a hit.
Second game is even better, the game we wanted to make in the first place
Third game isn't required
Fourth game is totally panned

Way around that is the third game is on new technology, so seems fresh, although it really isn't. :)

not really a shock to me, why wouldn't they make a God of War 3?
The first one is one of my favorite games and I want the 2nd one as much as Twilight Princess...if 2 is the part of a bigger story then
It has to end with him killing Zeus and taking over Olympus...what would be a bigger way to end it?

It's hard to imagine just how much more advance the third installment will turn up as. All I know is that the PS2 was leaps and bounds beyond the first PlayStation. So I'm kinda expecting a very similiar leap with the next version.

Hey what about MGS series? Are u saying the 4th one will SUCK? Tomb Raider was rushed and it showed in every game after the second. They've been trying so hard to fix laura and give her the same quality she once possessed they've found themselves lost in gaming industry because other devs have went so much farther than what they started. To be honest tho-ur still partially right. Usually when sequels are released on a close to yearly basis they pretty much suck...

First game - Couldn't put in all the stuff we wanted, we were rushed
Second game - Could put in everything we wanted
Third game - Doing it for the money.

I don't know if this deserves a spoiler tag but anyways...
I think he'll either fight his brother in the 2nd or 3rd one, I thought Barlog said before that his brother might make an appearance in the sequel. The reason i think Kratos will take out the other gods and ultimately Zeus is because right before you reach Pandora's Box there is a painting of a man fighting Zeus and it says it shows the future...or something like that
