View Full Version : Installing Linux On A Zero-ed HDD
I want to install Ubuntu on a spare 160gb hard drive I have. The hard drive is zero-ed and when I try booting with the dvd I cant get it to boot. Is there some kind of floppy I can use to prepare the hard drive for a dvd install.

You can't get the DVD to boot? Or it's not recognizing the hard drive? If it's the first check the BIOS and make sure it's set to boot from the cd-rom drive.
I don't know what a "zero-ed" hard drive is, so I can't help you there.
Zero-ed as in wiped clear from everything.
Its an older computer Im using to install it. So thats probably the reason.

Maybe because it's an older computer it can't read DVD's? You could always download the cd .iso and try that.
Its has a dvd drive in it. But it wont boot dvds. I used my new computer to install it but when I put it back into the old one, it would load past the boot screen. I have the cd iso aswell all I need is to get some blanks cds.
