Rumour: New Final Fantasy Game?
By Ash - Mar 20th 2004 01:34

Recent rumours, as always, have been floating around the internet about Final Fantasy. Now it seems they may be true.

Recent rumours have suggested that a new, more traditionally, Final Fantasy game may be hitting the GameCube. These rumours were taken with a pinch of salt but an issue of Japanese magazine VJump may back this rumour up.

It was stated that this game, if it were real, would be shown at E3. However, Japanese magazine VJump showed a preview for their next issue and it had a very interesting prominent picture.

The scan showed an inverted character and a logo for a game called Final Fantasy Guilty Wing and at the bottom the acronym GCN can be seen. The text has not been translated and Square-Enix have yet to release any kind of official information so nothing is permanent at the moment.

The scan can be seen by clicking here (http://kotawa.hp.infoseek.co.jp/info/vjump/scan/vj0304.jpg) and is thanks to Kotawa (http://kotawa.hp.infoseek.co.jp/).

Cool. If this game comes to be I hope its better than FF: CC. It was really boring, just running around killing things...thats it. I like more traditional ones with random battles. Makes you feel like you accomplish somthing you know?

the text at the bottom says "kingdom hearts 2-PS2 GCN-final fantasy"

this is my fourth year of japanese, i have a knack for it

i could translate the rest if i wanted to, but it basically says "FF:GW" and Gamecube

the red text w/ the "!" sayd sugoi which means Great!

i cant read the foru big characters, they are Kanji which is very hard for americans to learn.

the sideways yellow stuff i could figure out if i really got begged, but i dont think it matters

Darn. I still want to learn Japanese, but most books that I find about it don't teach the language to you, but just help you figure out what people are saying and how to make basic comments, like "Where is your restroom?" The ones that I do find are always very costly. :(

I've been hoping that we'd get more from Square-Enix. GameCube could really use their games to beef up the library.

I would as well like a more traditional Final Fantasy on the GameCube. But I won't believe in this game until it's confirmed by Square-Enix. If it is true, there's a great chance that I'll pick it up. I didn't pick up FF:CC for the sheer fact that the best part of it was multi-player, and although most of my friends have GBA's, they don't have the link.

In my school, they only teach Spanish, French, and German. Two of which I really don't care for, I've always wanted to learn Japanese above all. I guess that the abscence of variety should be expected coming from a school like mine.

So............a FF8 sequel??

Maybe they just put Squall there because he is a well-known Final Fantasy character, and not that he is necessarily in the actual game...just a thought..

That would be great...real support from Square-Enix.

Freeman_JI's FRIEND:

I study Jap heaps. Some of the yellow stuff on the side included the words:
Analogue[KANJI], probably controller. Then some more kanji, then the word game. Then the words 'Special Set'. Then 'digital' then the rest is in english. Its probably just a ddl pack of Kingdom Hearts and a PS FF. Probably 8 since the guy looks like Squall. And the yellow bit might be saying "Now in analogue!" or something. Thats basically all guess.
I'll be in Japan one week from now so I'll tell you all then. Whcih means I should join up. Look for Shadowrunner in about 5 minutes.
Actually 10 [I'm playing Battlefield]

Yeah I'm a member now.
The two big blue kanji probably say Gamecube but I think someone already said that.
I doubt its a new game. But square soft [sorry 'square enix'] seems to be releasing heaps of crap Final Fantasy: Plus a new name just to scab money. i wish they would return back to their good days [ff7 AND EARLIER].
BTW, I'm a big FF fan but I thought FFX and afterward ones have been big letdowns.
And as I said, starting next saturday I'll be in Japan for the rest of the year so I can tell ya what comes out and so on.
But as far as I know, half this forum already lives in Japan since this is my first post. But as of next week. If you wanna know something Jappy, ask me. ^_^

Within two minutes I've had my hopes sky rocketted and then knocked down a few pegs. While I am totally stoked about the slim possibility of a traditional Final Fantasy game on the Cube, I also cannot deny that fact that I hate FFVIII with all my being.

I also noticed that no one here as come in to dash our hopes to the ground with the typical "It's only a rumor" line and "It probably won't happen." Odd.

"Jeux-France and GCAdvanced (who originally reported the story) have declared the "Final Fantasy Guilty Wing" scan false. They obtained the current issue of V-Jump and that page is no where to be found.

Also, a Square-Enix rep told Gamespot:

Square Enix USA is not aware of any Final Fantasy/GameCube revealings at E3.

Never believe a game is coming out until you see it on the shelf.

FF8 didn't suck, but it was deffinetly the worst ot of the lot. No, second worse. FFX was worse.

People can trust in the existance of a game that has been made official by its developers/publishers, even though a percentage of those get cancelled before they are completed. The only thing that we shouldn't take as gospel are rumors. Rumors can make for interesting conversation, as it did with this game, even though we should never hold our breath for these things, at least until they become official.

Okay, now another site has more recently (today) said that the rumor, which was recently discredited, was wrongfully dismissed, suggesting that it is actually true after all.

News: Final Fantasy Guilty Wing
By Iun - Mar 23rd 2004 16:04

A new Final Fantasy game is in development for the Gamecube!

Last week, rumours hit the internet about a new Final Fantasy game for the Gamecube after a Japanese magazine published concept art from a game called "Final Fantasy: Guilty Wing" said to be in development by Square-Enix. The aforementioned rumours were then said to be false by a number of sites and publications...

...but it seems they were wrong! This months issue of V-Jump magazine has published art from the game under the same name and confirms that this game is currently in development!

No further details are available on the title at this time, and we would hope that mre information will be released closer to E3. However, apparently it states in the magazine that the game, which will be exclusive to Gamecube, will possibly be set in the Final Fantasy VII universe -which many fans believe represents the epitome of Final Fantasy. Will this be in the mould of a fully fledged Final Fantasy game? Or will it break away and try something new like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles? If the not-so-good sales of the above are anything to go by, we can only hope that the Cube will soon have its' very own classic Final Fantasy game!

Square-Enix is reportedly working on a new RPG for Nintendo's GameCube console. According to Shonen V-Jump Magazine, Square-Enix is planning a game entitled "Final Fantasy: Guilty Wing." Specifics regarding the game, its story and characters remain largely undisclosed. News of the game comes on the heels of rumors suggesting Square-Enix plans to develop an enhanced version of their classic RPG "Final Fantasy VII" for the GameCube. Expect more details regarding the "Guilty Wing" project to emerge in the coming days here at Polygon Magazine.

Polygon has more credibility with me than Spong but that is two sites today with it. We'll keep a close eye on this one as it seems to be grabbing some attention.
