SOE Acquires Worlds Apart Productions

Sony acquires online, card-game-maker, creates SOE-Denver, launches online card organization and tourney site.

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced it has bought "key assets" of Worlds Apart Productions and is forming a new studio, Sony Online Entertainment-Denver, made up of former Worlds Apart employees. Worlds Apart has produced card games based on game, movie, and TV franchises--such as Auto Assault, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek--plus its own online multiplayer strategy series, Star Chamber.

What implications does this acquisition hold for PS3 and the PSNP?
Did Sony already have this in mind when developing The Eye of Judgement?

Something doesn't seem right - why would SCE form an SOE-branded sub-studio? I think Gamespot may have gotten it wrong and the acquisition been made by SOE or Sony directly. Maybe we'll find out more shortly...

Anyway it's an interesting move - certainly seems Eye of Judgement-esque, or perhaps they're just trying to monetize on some online CCG game models.

EDIT: Yup, it's SOE that acquired, not SCE - Gamespot got it wrong.

Interesting, maybe 2 or more titles in the same vein as Eye of Judgement..... hmmmm. Or perhaps card games of Everquest or something it is a game that could be made into a card game.
