MARKETING SUPPORT

Sony Computer Entertainment America will support Resistance: Fall of Man with a blockbuster multimillion dollar marketing campaign. This will include aggressive national television, print, online and viral advertising campaigns, full promotional support, dedicated point-of-purchase displays and merchandising support, broad-based public relations support, an immersive and interactive website and feature coverage in the Official PlayStation Magazine/Underground DVD.

...Obviously, the other fun part is getting to play games. We’ve had lunch tests of multiplayer in order to get 40 people online and playing Resistance at the same time. This works out really well – Insomniac brings in lunch for us, we scarf down the food and then wipe off our hands before picking up a PS3 controller and getting down to business. I’m looking forward to more of these as we get closer to launch.

I was really impressed with the 40-player game of Meltdown (a temporary name I’m told) that we got into. I had a chance to pick it up as both Hybrid and soldier, and the weapons that I played with were just fantastic. The game moves fast and before I knew it, the hour was over. The only downside was that pretty much everyone else has been playing the game for months – so I can’t say I was doing super-well, though I did manage to paint quite a few people with the Bullseye.

It’s fun to be here on the inside, seeing the decisions get made and getting to see a lot of stuff come together before the game’s release. I can’t wait to dive all the way into the single-player mode this week and really get my feet wet with this title....

Glad to hear this. They need to be agressive as possible and get the word out there, not just with this game though.

Well, this means that we won't be seeing Killzone 3 anytime soon, as Sony wants to promote Resistance. Goodbye to Killzone at TGS, and say hello to Resistance at TGS.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. IMO, I think that Sony is saving Killzone to steal some thunder from Halo 3 when it releases, but I am definitely looking forward to Resistance no less!

I dont see the reason to heavily market a game that is releasing on a platform that everyone is going to have a hard time finding this holiday season. If anything I might wait until PS3s become steadier to start a large marketing campaign.

Well, I reckon SCE's marketing for launch initially will have more to do with presence and mindshare than purely pushing units. Especially with their first parties and their new IP, I imagine they think its important to establish those titles early on no matter what. I mean, if you want to take the line of thought further you might as well wonder why they're gonna bother to pour millions into advertising the PS3 if there's going to be shortages.

2-4 million will find a PS3 before new year. That is a nice round figure probably worth some marketing money when it concerns a brand new franchise as RFOM.

Only the hardcore gamers will know about this game unless they do some heavy marketing. This commitment implies that Sony put quite a lot of trust into this game. :)

Allow me to present a viable reason my friend ;)

How about the need for marketing in order for on the fence people to preserve their money(until they can find a console on shelf) , which they might utilize on competitive hardware otherwise! Marketing helps in confusing peoples judgement you know. Think Killzone at E3 '05 ;) lol
