Recent presentation from Nvidia showed two new designs: 7950GT and 7900GS, but what is really interesting is the specs of the 1st one:

GeForce 7950 GT:
90nm design
550Mhz for the die
700Mhz for GDDR3
HDCP as standard

What do you thing? aren't they exactly the same as RSX?
More often, it is a new design and supposed to be faster than actual 7900GT!
I think we have it finally... Not that fast, but almost as fast as a first gen Geforce7800GTX... As they promised 1 year ago (2 x 6800 Ultra power).

Oh, yes and the complete article can be found on beyond3D

Well I love my 7900GT, so if they have something better than that a console with the CELL!........pffffffft.
I want my PS3.

blah...im waiting for the G80 before building a new multi-core system. :Mrt:

suit yourself; but it will only cost me like 300 to sli the thing.....and then!

RSX related to existing NVidia architectures, yes...

But I wouldn't read too much into exact GPU/PC-card analogues. They are different 'architectures' all the same, and from different fabs; those two things can make a big difference in what chip reaches what speed at what size.

The fact that a card is now coming out with specs that almost exactly match those of the E3 claims a year ago I think has more to do with the fact that each graphics gen there are like a dozen skus more than it has to do with any sort of relation to RSX.

I know....I was actually implying that my card, on an "open" architecture machine is thoroughly impressive. Thus - I am expecting to be equally impressed, if not more so, after seeing what they(programmers/devs) will be able to do with "similar" hardware in a "closed" architecture machine. ;-]

Also, the curent RSX specs are unkown, as MILR has pointed out 117 times(and counting).

the 7950 is the equivalent of sli in one card. I read a review on cnet the card is supposed to kick ass.

I think the RSX will be More than this.

I would like to remind people that 7950 is just another NV47 core implementation just like 7800 & 7900 are.

The RSX will also be another NV47 implementation & if history holds it will be more than all other NV47 implementations.

Nvidia's last console GPU was NV2A for the XBOX. It was derived from the PC GPU NV20 through customisation that gave it the edge. It had 2 vertex shaders and 2 ALUS per shader pipe - features only found in next generataion NVIDIA NV30 GPU that was still to come. The NV20 of the time had only 1 vertex shader pipe. After the NV20 & NV2A the NV25 was released but even that was not quite on par with the older NV2A design. It was only superceded much later by arrival of NV30 - a new GPU generation architecture for NVIDIA. The NV2A as a result was loosely reffered to as NV27 as it's featureset set somewhere between the NV25 & NV30.

Throughout this thread i have given many reasons to why i believe that the RSX cannot simply be a PC GPU off the shelf solution. NOT for a second do I buy the Sony went to NVIDIA last minute & its the best they could do.

In the same way as the NV2A I belive the RSX will sit somewhere between the last NV47 variation (7950) & NV50 (G80 family).
It will have the base design of NV47 core but have customisations that bring features of NV50(G80).

Do you have the review Link please.

7950GX2 is a dual card solution. Not worth comparing to the GT which is a SINGLE card solution.

hmm....I thought the 7950's in general, were dual core - which is why its NOT a 7900.......
