I just saw the Pink PS2 Announcment. If that is the only significant HARDWARE information we get this year at Leipzig then I'm going to be very disapointed.

Now, is a GREAT time to release the technical information about the PS3. It's close enough to still hype the system, but not so close as to distract people from the games.

At TGS they could focus on the gaming side of things, but here and now they need to tell us the specs and get that all done and over with.

I'm going to keep on watching for news.

They are going to tell us the specs. That is an absolute fact. Obviously, they might not tell us every single tiny detail about screw one placed in slot five for example. But when it comes to the specs that matter they are going to tell us. They are pushing the PS3 as the most powerful console this generation, and without the specs that is just a big lie. They are going to give us the specs. It is a matter of when and not if.

I just think they need to release them as soon as possible.

CPU: CELL
GPU: RSX

If so, then you are mistaken. They are going to give us the specs at some point. It's just a matter of time.

Now, you could very well be correct that they might not tell us about every tiny little component of the PS3 or highly technical internal details of the RSX.

But for example, when it comes to the RSX I am sure we will get the number of pipelines, some newly revised facts and figures, and of course the MHZ.

If I'm wrong then that's just fine, I could care less. I don't have to be right about it, but just saying, I seriously doubt they will. I don't see the strategic value for them in revealing the specs at this point, when everyone's really interested in seeing the games. It actually works in their favor if the actual numbers are a secret to consumers and they just see games that look amazing. It's mystifying to average consumers, and people who don't know any better. It's got the...that cell thingy! And the sweet reality synthesizer!
Of course we all know better but really, does it matter? Honestly, now?

I think Sony is more interested in letting the games do the talking rather than the theoretical maximums of some specification sheets.

Personally, I think you *might* be correct that RIGHT NOW they might not reveal the specs at Leipzig, but before the console launches I believe the specs will be released.

We will get the specs before the launch. The issue is that they are dragging their feet big time with the specs. It's time that they just come clean and tell us the truth whatever it might be.

I hope we hear something today or tommorow from Leipzig. It would be nice if at some point they address the issue of the PS3's specifications.

It sure looks like it is going to be a major event. I don't know what TGS really looks like, but it seems that they are going all out into making Leipzig one major spectacle. Perhaps we will get some announcments after all!

First US gaming site reports have started to come in, with this 1up editors blog.


Considering how modern the Leipzig Messe or wherever we are is, it's a bit strange to wrassle with Internet. Add to that the harsh reality that Internet at our hotel in Hossa is roughly $35/day (thanks Ziff) and you are tasting the terror taking place across the pond at the Game Convention in Germany. Matt Leone says this is always how these foreign excursions go, something always going wrong, us prevailing and triumphing over insurmountable odds -- but I just want to connect to some friggin Internet.

So far this afternoon, panels have been shifted, moved and cancelled. Peter Molyneux, Fable's brainy boss, had his morning talk rescheduled. Had Molyneux not rescheduled a HUGE gaming website would've missed out on the whole thing -- we saw them stumble in early this afternoon, we chuckled and wished that Peter had talked sooner. Sam is down there now listening to the talk, while I sit up here on jank Wi-Fi before a panel discussing the Future of MMOs. With luck there will be some stories worth telling from both of those, and you'll stumble across them on 1UP in the near future, I'm sure.

Speaking of stories, Cesar is sitting next to me with a slew of computers and music blaring as he's working on something super cool that should be up in the near-future, we went on a couple of convention center adventures this afternoon and it will definitely be worth checking out when that video goes live.

Some stuff I'm looking forward to for the rest of the week:
Assassin's Creed: Whether it's anything new that wasn't at E3 or not is kind of irrelevant to me, this will be my first up close look at the game.

Command & Conquer 3: Saw this at E3, it looked pretty great. First gameplay footage from C&C3 is expected to debut here.

Halo 2 Vista: Sounds like this will be playable on the show floor, I'm mainly interested in seeing how it looks and how it plays within the Vista environment.

Whatever Nintendo is Planning: With a keynote called "Wii Prove Ourselves" who really knows what to expect, but we'll be checking it out bright and early tomorrow morning (German time) and then heading off to Konami.

Capcom's other 360 game, Lost Planet: Here at Leipzig, LP creators will let us take the multiplayer for a spin -- some of us from Ziff did already last week and in the words of Mark MacD -- "it will make you say wow." If you somehow missed the most recent batch of screens for this game -- you need to check them out, now.

Healthy advise: keep your hopes low. There could be interesting PS3 announcements, yes, but tomorrow should be a big day for Nintendo since they're not going to have a big presence at TGS next month. TGS will be Sony's huge event, so please take this into account if you feel tomorrow isn't very exciting regarding PlayStation 3.

Subtle design change: The On/off and Eject buttons were coloured before, LED's lit or not. Now it seem that they'll be gray when the LED is turned off.

Yep, when it blinks, it's ejecting, when it's red theirs an error, when it's green everything is a-ok.
The other led shows the power is on or off.
That, plus the two buttons on top turns it on/off and eject.
