Mostly, football = Winning Eleven/Pro Evo Soccer. :)

Yup, neither FIFA or TIF will ever be as good as Pro Evolution Soccer!

Isn't this game developed internally at one of the Sony studios?

Yeah, it's a fun game.
Not really a hardcore soccer game but aimed more at...everyone really. It's not trying to be realistic and seems to have found a good balance between realism and arcade in my opinion. It has it's own charm.

There is also diving which is fun :)
And they come up with interesting challenges to complete.

I keep this game aorund my house for fun playing times with or without friends.

It makes more sense to call a game football when you use your feet to control the ball, rather than picking it up and running and throwing it (don't you think).
Also, it predates American Football by several decades and is played throughout the entire World rather than a single country.
There is only one REAL football in the World and it doesn't come from the states.

Don't even get me started on the World Series (how many countries do you think there are in the World (1 obviously)).

What does this have to do with me mistaking football for football.

It matters little what sport came first or what sport is better represented by the term "football" in the USA we call it soccer. I simply found it funny that when I read football I assumed it was in reference to the US term.

In Australia, football is this:

Those screens look pretty good.

I don't know about you over there, but American football is called "rugby" here. And soccer/football is simply called, well, "football".

:eek2:

[/ahem]

I don't follow either sport, so I couldn't care less ;)

Anyway, I don't see any links! Can anyone elaborate on the games rather than discussing something that has NOTHING to do with PS3? Please? :)

No offence, my personal rant was just an extension of an arguement I had with an American friend down the pub the other night, he was trying to make me refer to the sport as soccer to save him confusion. We love to wind each other up over the small differences in language and culture, I suppose I'm still a little wound up. He just wouldn't drop it when I asked a friend if he had a spare fag (cigarette).
Anyway, I know you are not he, so I appologise.

P.S. Aussie rules football cannot be taken seriously, solely because of those gimpy looking tank-tops they wear. IMO

Anyone watched Conan O'Brien lately?

His "I kill you with my bald head" - Zidane imitation is priceless.

LOL

Dont worry about it man, I know that soccer/football is taken very seriously throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

PS- Tell your friend that when in Rome do as the Romans do.

I always found it funny that we yanks call it football when the only time the foot ever touches the ball is kickoff, punt, or field goal, which only makes up a very tiny percentage of the game vs. a sport that forbids you to touch the ball with your hands in most cases...

BTW those screens look good. You can see every blade of grass on the field, vs. the flat high res grass textures in madden 07.

Looks great, my only gripe is in soccer games you have to see most of the field at all times to keep track/control of the game, so you're not gonna be able to appreciate the nice visuals half the time anyway; the camera is always bird's eye view from like 100 feet above.

football is the most played sport in the world....indeed its called football in 90% of the world....but if americans believe that word is better suited for their own sport...who cares....?
