Thought this might make a good accompaniment to the betting thread. I'll be posting news stories relating to team news, transfers etc.

Feel free to post any other news on here.

Reds made to work in Kiev battle

Liverpool made it into the group stages of the UEFA Champions League with a slender 3-2 aggregate victory over Maccabi Haifa after a 1-1 draw in Kiev, although they were made to sweat in a nervy ending.

Liverpool were the main aggressors throughout and took the lead early in the second half when Peter Crouch nodded in a Jermaine Pennant cross and the 2005 European Champions looked to be cruising at 3-1 up on aggregate.

Classy Keane inspires Spurs win

Robbie Keane was in fine form as Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first points of the new Premiership season with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

Spurs produced a thoroughly exciting first-half display to produce a cushion that never looked like being closed up by Neil Warnock's side.

Pardew pays price for changes

West Ham United boss Alan Pardew paid the price for changing a winning formation as Watford fought hard to earn a 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.

Both sides made two changes to their teams from their impressive openings to the season at the weekend, but it was Pardew's decision to alter the system which ultimately proved decisive, as Watford picked up their first point of the new campaign.

Wenger admits Gallas bid

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he has made an offer for Chelsea defender William Gallas.

The accomplished French stopper has made no secret of his desire to quit the champions and incurred the wrath of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for reporting late for a pre-season tour. Gallas has long since complained about being played at left back, which he feels is not his best position as he hankers for a more central role - similar to the one he plays for his country.

Phillips plumps for Baggies

West Bromwich Albion have fended off Sunderland to sign Kevin Phillips from Aston Villa for £700,000.

Phillips had been given permission to speak to the Championship duo and was offered a return to The Stadium of Light by former strike partner Niall Quinn.

But the 33-year-old has opted to stay in the Midlands and has signed a two-year contract at The Hawthorns after passing a medical.

Pompy look to snatch Martins

Skysports.com understand that Portsmouth have made a renewed bid to snatch Obafemi Martins from under the noses of Newcastle.

We revealed on Sunday that a €16 million (£10.9 million) deal had been struck between Newcastle and Internazionale for the Nigerian striker.

"I can confirm we have agreed a fee with Inter Milan for Obafemi Martins," chairman Freddy Shepherd told the club's website. "It is now up to the player and the agent to agree terms on offer."

However, it can now be revealed that Pompey have not given up hope of landing Martins and have now made a fresh bid - with an increased offer of personal terms.

Mark Viduka's dramatic late goal gave Middlesbrough a 2-1 win over champions Chelsea, while Manchester United made it two wins out of two and Martin O'Neill secured his first win as Aston Villa manager with victory over Reading.

Not sure if results count as news but im posting todays and yesterdays results here, feel free to discuss

Results
Aston villa 2 - Reading 1
Blackburn 1 - Everton 1
Charlton 0 - Man united 3 (hard luck matt lol)
Fulham 1 - Bolton 1
Man city 0 - Portsmouth 0
Middlesborough 2 - Chealsea 1
Watford 1 - West ham 1
Tothenham 2 - Sheff utd 0

Shock of the week

Middlesborough 2 - Chealsea 1 - Great win for boro 91st minute goal taking the 2-1 win over the reigning champs, i still dont think this will change the fact chelsea will win the league but great for united who beat charlton 3-0 putting them top of the league, also good news for liverpool who now are only two points behind chelsea with a game in hand, like i said nothing is anywhere near decided, but it sure changes things with chelsea losing for once, could boro be jose's bogey team.

I'm only posting this cuz Solskjaer > all.

Solskjaer: Living the dream

The 33-year-old completed a dream comeback on Wednesday night to seal United's comfortable 3-0 win away at Charlton Athletic.

It was the super-sub's first senior goal for The Reds since September 2003 and has brought some closure to a horrific run of injuries, including three major knee operations.

Solskjaer took the chance to celebrate with United's visiting fans at The Valley, and has paid tribute to the club.

"I have been dreaming about this day and now it has finally arrived, I just feel relief," he explained.

"I waited a long, long time to celebrate with the fans after scoring a goal.

"The prospect of doing it was one of the major things that has motivated me over the past three years.

"Throughout all that time, the fans and the manager have supported me. They have shown patience and the gratitude I feel for that is difficult to put into words.

"Maybe in an ideal world, I would have scored the goal at Old Trafford. But that doesn't really matter. I have a goal on the board now - and that is the important one."

Zamora strike denies Villa

Aston Villa maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an entertaining 1-1 draw with West Ham United at Upton Park on Sunday afternoon.

Bobby Zamora's fifth goal of the season cancelled out Liam Ridgewell's early opener to give West Ham a share of the spoils.

Much of the hype before the game surrounded new signings Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, but Tevez only made an appearance as a second-half substitute, while Mascherano was left on the bench.
