If Rap was still the way it was when it was first incarnated, honestly, I wouldn't hate it the way I do. That rap was trying to make a statement, at least. But now...

The songs are too fake sounding, and it's just not music in my eyes. Music is supposed to be expression through rhythm and melody, or at least making a catchy tune. It's not bragging that your teeth are golden with a "killa beat" that sounds like every other song that's out.

I kind of hate today's music as a whole though, with some exceptions, cause I'm just a Classic Rock guy. I hate the name new bands are giving "Rock" music. Bands like My Chemical Romance and Simple Plan. They make me want to go swallow a knife.

Either way, just because you have a band with instruments that were primarily used in Rock and Roll in the past doesn't mean the music you're creating is Rock and Roll.

P.S. I don't care if your chain hangs low, or if it wobbles to the floor.

Yeah Rap and Hip Hop Mostly, I also thoroughli dislike The Pussy Cat Dolls, i just cant seem to figure out how it takes so many of them to sing one song..? none of them play instruments, and have no musical talent what so ever. Another one that I dont like, Shakira, BAD Music! But there are still good bands out there producing good music, you just have to sift through the garbage first to find them.

Fats. I should have clarified my post, I was talking about how I don't mind rap when it's how it was in it's creation. It's not that I hate current rap, it's that I hate current popular/commercial rap aka anything on the radio and MTV. Minus Outkast.

I've heard some underground Hip Hop artists like Citizen Cope that aren't bad.

Over the past several years, I've gradually become a bit more tolerant of different music genres and artists that I previously avoided like the plague, but I still can't stand country. Life can suck pretty bad enough on its own, so why on Earth would anybody want to sit around on a bar stool listening to some guy boo-hoo about how crappy his life has been (according to the song, since it's not like 99% of them are drawing on their own real life experiences)?

I don't give country a chance... ever, so I don't know how much this theme persists today, if at all, but I know it at least used to be common in the country music world. These people wouldn't know what a cowboy was if he came up and kicked a spur up their asses. "I'm a cowboy! I'm a cowboy!" Even better, "I'm a genuine cowgirl!" *sputter* What in the name of all that is holy is a "cowgirl"? When did that happen?

Go on about your wife leaving you, driving around in your beat-up old Chevy truck, and slaving fourteen hours a day in your hard, gritty job, and then when the concert is over you climb into your stretch limo with your wife and three other hos and never go anywhere near a real job. I guess it's about as bad as rappers going on about life on the streets that they've never really seen, except that I don't want to shoot myself when listening to rap.

Bah, that's enough ranting about country. One other thing, though: I hate songs that are friggin' retarded. The best example that comes to mind is that God-forsaken song they use on the Vonage commercials. What dee-dee-dee pulled out a notepad and jotted down "Whoo hoo! Whoo hoo hoo!" a hundred times and then decided to put it to music? That's not music; that's annoying... as hell.

From Wikipedia:

In 1983, U2 returned with apparently a newfound sense of direction and the release of their third album, War. The album included the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday," which dealt with the troubles in Northern Ireland using religious imagery and what many considered as forceful and almost rebellious lyrics. The ability to use a range of powerful images, taking a song initially about sectarian anger, and turn it into a call for Christians to unite and claim victory over death and evil, proved to many that the band was capable of deep and meaningful songwriting. When some Irish-Americans tried to misrepresent the song as a rallying call for the Provisional IRA Bono responded with what became one of his most recognizable phrases, notably the performance on the live EP Under a Blood Red Sky - "this song is not a rebel song. This song is Sunday Bloody Sunday." Furthermore, as captured in the concert film Rattle and Hum, during the performance of the song on November 8, 1987 in the USA, the day after the IRA bombing in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, in which 11 people were killed during a Remembrance Day service (see Remembrance Day Bombing), Bono denounced the violence in Ireland and the Irish-American expatriates who supported it. Unlike the style and emotions conveyed by other musicians in the early 1980s, many saw in Bono anger and passion that were palpable, especially as demonstrated by his blunt assertion "Fuck the 'revolution'!"

Crow

It's nothing about either of them. I like what both Bob Marley and Johnny Cash sing about, but I don't like either of their actual music. Just not my tastes man. In fact, I'm all for peace (as Bob Marley), but I would never actually sit down and listen to a cd straight through of either of them.
