I just got into DMC and am now very excited for no 4 in the series, I don't want to pass judgement without seeing 720p direct feed shots, but it is not looking good to match the TGS trailer IMO, still looks good in its own right though.

EDIT:If you look on the top left of the second scan the texture work looks to have matched the best thing about the TGS trailer, the wall textures, so IMO there is hope yet!

Seems like both Dante and Nero are playable characters. Left page shows playable sections from the Nero gameplay sequences and the right page shows Dante all grown up and his side of the game.

That wouldn't make sense to me, unless they plan to remake DMC 1, 2 & 3. I don't think DMC will be going X-platform.

It was just a speculation man. I wasn't implying this to be the case. Capcom has shown a lot of interest in how they aren't stepping out of 360 development in Japan. They've also implied to some extent that their business is their best interest and not loyalty to any single console.

I think its ok to assume certain games going multiplatform if publishers see less install base for one and more for the other. Lots of delay news isn't helping the issue either. So a hint at a surprise announcement only made the alarms go off for DMC4 to go the RE5 route. But hey, who knows. Maybe it is exclusive and they'll announce new characters or something.

Okay here is why they choose Vergil

Nelo/Vergil is the main character. (Dante *might* be playable later in the game?) 4 shows what happens to Virgil/Nelo after DMC1.

Nelo/Vergil is the main character because Dante starred in the first 3 games (basically time for something new).

Game timeline is like this: 3 > 1 > 4 > 2.

Vergil/Nelo looks like Vergil because the red/silver/blue color scheme is an important symbol in the DMC games (think Snake's bandanna/Big boss' eyepatch).

Same combo system as DMC3 just being reworked/tweaked :

Nero :
Right arm has a draw/throw system
combo's aren't easily like in the other games
(like say when you had to run to an enemy. Now you can draw them to you or send them away).

Dante is "grim and can't settle down" and will make appearances throughout the game.

September 6, 2006 - Dante is going to be taken a back seat in the first next generation entry in the Devil May Cry series. The new issue of Famitsu reveals that Devil May Cry 4 will feature a new lead in the form of Nero, a new character who slightly resembles Dante in that he has white hair and sports a long coat.

Speaking with the magazine, director Hideaki Itsuno stated that the change was made in part to put fans and newcomers on equal ground with the game. One of the worries was that if the game looks too much like a sequel, new players will have a hard time of playing.

The classic Devil May Cry hero will appear in the game as a "mysterious person." From Nero's perspective, Dante is an enemy who appears out of nowhere and kills his allies. Chronologically, the Dante that appears in this game comes after part 1 but before part 2 (the series chronology is 3, 1, 4, 2).

Kobayashi wouldn't state for sure if Dante will be playable (Famitsu shows some shots of Dante shooting his gun, but these may just be event scenes), but Nero seems to have enough tricks that you won't want to go back to the classic hero. Nero has access to a new array of attacks using his "Devil Right Hand." Nero's right hand can be used to pull distant enemies in and send enemies that are close by flying away.

All the classic Devil May Cry moves are also planned for the game. Nero can wield two guns and has access to a variety of swords, including the powerful Red Queen. The combo system is based on that of part 3, Itsuno revealed to the magazine, noting that Capcom has been making adjustments by listening to user feedback. There are a few mysterious new systems, including one where your sword has an element of "acceleration" about it, but details will have to wait until a certain late-September game show.

Devil May Cry is also about stylish drama sequences between the action, and Itsuno and crew seem to have this covered as well. Like part 3, DMC4 will have its event scenes directed by movie director Yuji Shimomura. The story volume will be greater than that of the previous games, Itsuno noted to the magazine.

Itsuno also shared some details on how the game is tapping the power of the PS3. The visuals attempt to deliver a satisfying feel of being in the air. Nero's right arm actions are, according to Itsuno, something that could not be done on current machines.

Closing off the Famitsu feature, producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi commented on Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 showing at the Tokyo Game Show. Players will be able to sample the game as Nero. In addition, Capcom will hold a Devil May Cry stage event which will include a surprise announcement.I wish the surprise announcement is something along the lines of DMC for PSP, franchise renaming to "Devils Never Cry", or anything else but a multiplatform release announcement.

- The people here believe that Sparda is a god, and the Order that Nero works for wants to undo Sparda's seal.

- It is for this purpose that Nero ends up in this city, but here his entire unit is slaughtered by the demon hunter Dante.

I know the all DMC fanbase was surprised of this changes but look the good sides, it will still be a DMC game, and Kobayashi who worked on DMC 1 know what they wanted to do, and he said, he wanted this new sequel to be more appropriate to a more larger audience and not only the fans.
Dante is still in the game, but the devs don't want to reveal much more, okay Nero is the main character but Dante is there, its not known if Dante will be playable, some are saying, alternate missions, some are saying , Nero's story and Dante's story.

Agreed... There's absolutely no way the game is leaving the PS3 console, but if the title goes multiplatform I hope they optimize the engine for the PS3.
Considering the engine is being used on the 360 I just hope they don't feel satisfied once the engine is working on the PS3 and actually modify the engine for the platform. :cheers:

Sorry to bring this up again but new infos again with older ones :

1. They used a new character for the protagonist to let the newcomers of the series get into the game better. It allows the veteran gamers and the newcomers to start off on the same page.

2. The reason for Nero to resemble Dante(coat, silver hair) is that they have become iconic for the series. When asked if there are any other reason for the resemblance, Kobayashi just replied with a smile. It is not stated anywhere that Vergil = Nero.

3. The devil right arm can not only pull enemies from a distance, it can be used for throwing techniques.

4. From Nero's perpective, Dante is just strange old geezer coming out of nowhere killing off his comrades in his cult.

5. The timeline for the series is 4>1>3>2

6. They were purposely being unclear as to whether Dante is playable or not.

7. The devil arm system is to add more variations to the combo system.

8. The DMC4 system is mainly an upgraded version of DMC3.

9. The strange handle on the sword has other special uses.

10. The circular meter thing beside the stamina gauge is based on a motorcycle's speedometer.

11. Cutscenes will be real time

And now thin of this being a smart move from The devs, If in fact they wanted to show the story Of Dante with another character who is the bad guy , So let's say Nero is a bad Demon and his culte too, and Dante is still the Devil Hunter we know , but the devs want to show a story from the Bad guy side , something similar to James bond : Rogue Agent.

You play the bad guy instead of the good guy and the Story changes and you play Dante with his point of view ?

That' s it , but that' s just my guess...So just imagine , you' re playing with Nero, and there's an amazing cutscenes where Dante appears and you're saying yourself " that' s really cool to see him doing that and looking that way "from your point of view but while playing Nero...And so the more you play , and the more you see Dante appearing and the more you want to finish the game and say " well now I want to play Dante...or maybe , Dante was cool ".

That' s it , but that' s just my guess...So just imagine , you' re playing with Nero, and there's an amazing cutscenes where Dante appears and you're saying yourself " that' s really cool to see him doing that and looking that way "from your point of view but while playing Nero...And so the more you play , and the more you see Dante appearing and the more you want to finish the game and say " well now I want to play Dante...or maybe , Dante was cool ".

Also, similar to RE4 you played as Leon and once you completed the game you could play as Ada. I liked how the two stories would cross and it gave you a clearer picture of the game's story. It's possible this could be the plan and would add to replay value. :cheers:

This is a cross plateform engine so there's the possibility of the game crossing the bridge. I don't mind a release as gamers will all benefit in the end. What I fear -and the pictures reveal it- is that the engine doesn't dig into the PS3 potential (or the 360 for this matter)...
