Nobody is sure about tis game, that's the weird part
This is a intresting one. I wonder how large the environments will be in the final product, how many species there will be and how many in numbers. It also has great potential to use that much talked amazing physics and AI that the ps3 is supposed to offer. I'm definately keen on seeing how this tittle will turn out.

If this were something more than a virtual safari game I might be interested. Let me play as a Lion, stalking the various creatures, or a Cheetah, etc. I've always wondered why there weren't many animal "role-playing" games. Catching swallows with a hawk seems just as promising as flying around with a dragon (minus the cool factor).

I like your idea, but I fear it's nothing of the sort.
but I do like your thought on the game
Oh to be an Antelope.. I could pipe in Phish's "Run like and Antelope" and just out run all you Lions and Tigers

Really? Another FPS where you're killing people? I'm ready for some different genres. Even a big-game hunting FPS would be better than a Turok style FPS where animals wander into the way or intervene (this is what I think you're imagining). Do we really need another FPS? Give me a zoo-tycoon type game or an animal RPG or a "run from the predators" game... Anything but another next-gen FPS... That's just my opinion, of course.

How about a SIMS type of a game where you create and take care of your own wild life? I hope Steve Irwin have a cameo appearance to give honor to him

After resistance It'll be months before I even consider another FPS. Seems like every other game announced is a FPS

Steve Irwin should be honored in this game and should have a cameo appearance. One of the most dedicated naturalist, environmentalist and adventurist.

There was some talk about the gameplay in the earlier Afrika thread (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?p=1205244#post1205244).

safari simulator, probably, but i guess the developers still don't even know what it is :luigi:
Alot of studios have to make sort of "tech demos" first to get more support from Sony; it might be one of those.

goddamn I just noticed agentorange has 3 red bars. that's pretty...tremendous.
And it's an MMO.
There's another trailer with a bunch of africans living in ancient cities and living amongst each other. IS that the same game?
EDIT: OH, OHO...So there's 2 different games being made. One here, called Afrika (working title) and another that's an MMO called AfriCa.
What are the odds of that...

It's not an MMO, it's a "savanna simulator" :) You watch animals and their habits in their own environment, not in the zoo.

I just couldn't do that. Most of these animals are well on their way to extinction. I just couldn't do it.
Now killing humans that's fun :evillaugh:

There are plenty of hunting games already.
Howabout playing something that doesn't involve shooting things with a gun.
Gotta make it interesting.
SC-i/on: yeah I just realized. There's 2 different games. AFRIKA AND AFRICA. Savannah sim and mmo respectively.

If not its nto worth buying! (IMHO)
I want to see predators attacking prey.

As long as it's original I will seriously consider this. I hate the idea that it would just be a FPS or (to a slightly lesser extent) a huinting game. I'm not sure exactly what I want it to be, but if it's something new I'll be interested.

Hunting those beautiful animals would be cruel, IMO. I think this is just a soft game like My Summer Break 3.

yeah...having so many amazing (and amazing looking) animals in one game just to be shooting them would be lame, and kind of defeatist imo.

check gametrailers.com. I got that trailer from somewhere. and the graphics are vastly different (less good, cause it's a huge mmo). People are warriors, and dancers and congo players and whatever else.
graphics do look less good in trailer, but even the font looks blocky, so it may be a compression issue. also, the game looks more like an adventure game to be, I'd like that because wandering around the savanna from the safety of the living room is appealing to me. But if the game is only too, I would not complain... ;)

No no, me and sephiroth are discussing a different game called Africa with a "C" instead of Afrika with a K. AfriCa is an mmo. This, Afrika is completely different and is the safari simulator allegedly (that's all we know).

I think a few diffrent premises would be interesting. As mentioned... some sort of hunting game, but not in the traditional since, more like preservation, in which you would ride around in a Jeep throwing nets at the animals or something in order to catch them, tag them and then release them (not much too it but interesting). Or how a realtime strategy (as also mentioned) where you get to choose a variety of predators and you have to attack prey and build up your pride and defend it from hyenas or somethin (ala Lion King). There would need to be some sort of strategy though.... for instance needing to take down a wilderbeast would require multiple Lioness

Build envronment, pick animals, pick foliage, press play and watch the world come together!
This would be great to show off the "This is living" A.I that Sony is so confident about and also would be a great chance for Sony to get lots of money from downloadable content (new animals, new kind of tree etc).
I actually might be interested in it if it's anything like I said :ghey:

I heard the story in Afrika is supposed to be something like this:
you're a kind of magic priest or medicine man in a tribe and that you have to enter the body of different animals and complete their purposes to free your tribe from a curse. Apparently you never play the priest, that story is just used as a frame and is viewed as cutscenes... in the gameplay you play different animals and complete their missions/stories. These missions/stories are based on traditional african fables.
i just made that up but it would be a neat concept, wouldn't it?

what a bad idea.
play as bushman is the only realistic idea in Afrika.
since Afrika is all about realistic life, Bushman/hunter/adventurer suits the game best.
