Very good read, with links that follow to others with more info etc. 2.4million units and 80/20 split between the 60Gb and 20Gb SKUs before 06 ends.
in 07 they could make about 14million units..

"In a meeting with analysts, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced that final assembly for the PlayStation 3 will begin by the end of this month. 400K units will ship ahead of the console's November 17th launch in North America, and Sony plans to follow that up with another 800K units via air freight through the end of this year."

Highlighted tha part as that means the sea way later to March freight

So the 4:1 ratio of 60/20 consoles is based on retailer demand rather than on Sony's supply. Interesting.

I'm also thinking about that Japanese poll as NA only wants the 600 Model.
Still 2.4million units is pretty good with PAL cut off.

They are pushing this too close. I am worried that they might not even produce the full 400,000. It seems like everytime they say something optimistic we get less than what was promised.

A friendly reminder to anyone who missed it. The 80/20 ratio isn't an official Sony figure. It was an analysts supposition as clarified below.

Update: Analyst Colin Sebastian with Lazard Capital Markets, which attended the management meeting, clarified the 80/20 premium/core PS3 figure in an e-mail late Monday, stating the split was a "Lazard estimate of retailer demand and not a set allocation percentage indicated by Sony."
