I honestly figured that the reserve for the PS3 would be higher than 50 USD.

Hmmm looks real enough I guess. Did anybody notice the PS button in the center of the controller is lit up in red in that picture? Hmmm interesting...

That doesn't seem like a very wise idea.
Makes me think that they aren't going to have a lot of PS3's. [ Which is exactly the case. ]
There were exactly the same posters in France a few weeks ago, before the delay was announced :(
This is real man and you'd better hurry to pre order yours.
In France there was 4 times more pre-orders than PS3 available at launch (that is what the guy of the shop told me).
Edit : it was also 50€ in France (almost equals 50$)

Looks legit, but who knows...
I suggest calling your Gamestop to confirm.

Mario I edited your thread title; please put actual detail when you create a thread so people know what it's about.
Anyway if it's true that would just be so so Gamestop - only allow the early pre-orders by forcing people to be gauged on the sale of their used games, such that Gamestop can actuallly turn around and make a hell of a lot more money on their resale than $50.

I just talked to a Gamestop manager & EBGames location, the flyer is bogus...
Both locations stated that they would more than likely start taking Wii preorders next week, possibly Monday, because Nintendo has provided them with allocation numbers. They are still waiting on PS3 allocation numbers and considering only 400K for the US they may still decide not to take preorders, because it would be less than 10 units per location!
The company will have a national managers meeting later this month and perhaps Sony will provide additional details regarding launch allocations and they will decide their PS3 strategy. One manager mentioned they are considering a raffle event for the PS3, because the quantities are so low and no other method would be "fair"
Bad news, but that's the latest directly from the source. Peace

I tried to edit the title after I made the thread, but I don't know how :XD:,....Thanks XBD!!!!

This has been proven false I think.......
It's proven false...
I have contacted several Gamespots in different parts of the country (Westcoast, Midwest & Eastcoast) no store is aware of a 9/18 preorder launch... It's a possibility for the Wii, but not the PS3 at this point.
Sorry, but have you red what I wrote : in France there was the EXACT same poster. I don't see why it would be fake in the US and not in France.
edit : it was not for Gamestop of course, but it was for several different stores.

Yes I read that man...
The UK was taking preorders some time ago and now we all know PAL territories are a no go until next year... Honestly what you saw in Europe is a moot point regarding the 9/18 date listed on the flyer. (unless the flyer is a very old UK Gamestop flyer?) Also, considering the PAL delay the flyer could be considered "fake"(incorrect) in any territory.
Based on the 360 launch fiasco, US retailers are very apprehensive regarding the PS3 launch. Apparently the UK retailers did not share the same sentiment...
I'm just stating what I was told directly from the source, no need to get people excited for nothing... Peace

According to ps3land, Gamestop is testmarketing this form of pre-order policy in Hawaii (http://www.ps3land.com/article-703.php), and maybe Guam.
There is also some more info in this joystiq article (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/16/rumor-your-money-is-no-good-for-gamestop-reservation/), if you read the comments. Mind you, there are some posters in the joystiq forum that claim they work for GS, and have seen nothing about this or even SKUs in the system, so it may still be a rumor.
I guess we will find out Monday.

Called Gamestop today and no preorders are being taken!
Unfortunately, the launch is turning into a huge cluster ****, because different locations are making different statements regarding the PS3 launch.
One manager told me they may not take preorders at all and why buy the console at launch because only multiplatform games will be available. (Absolute incorrect statement) Another manager told me that you need to preorder a PS3 game just to be added to their call back list...
It looks like Gamestop/EBGames is going to make the PS3 launch extremely painful. Also, it looks like the retailer plans to start Wii preorders in the very near future. The latest rumor I heard was that the Wii would initially launch with 1 million consoles in the US. If this number is correct that's just roughly twice the number of PS3s launching in the US which means retailers will only receive 5 to 10 consoles per store... Sounds like both consoles will be hard to obtain this November, but Gamestop is still considering preorders on the Wii in the near future, it just does not make a lot of sense.

fortunately this isn't true! We had a customer come in a few days ago cussing & stuff because he didn't like this at all. He would've been the first of many if it were true! Fortunately Gamestop isn't that stupid :-p

Today I was at EB...buying MGS2 (thanks Liquid) and this girl was asking about PS3 preorders. The guy told her not to think about it, and he was telling her about how you can't buy used PS3 games. I laughed inside because wasn't that rumor squashed like...5 months ago? These employees need to seriously wise up on the products their selling. He also said that the store would only be getting two PS3s. Can you drop some knowledge on that figure Liquid?

^ I think the misinformation could be intentional, because they want consumers to purchase what's in stock. It's a damn shame, because I have experienced the same shit at EB and once I start correcting the salesman and they realize I know what I'm talking about they shut up real quick...
I know you have to sell the bananas that are in the truck, but no need to tell blatant lies to confuse consumers. Peace

Yeah this guy was like well the night before the launch we'll have lines around the corner of the street and the first two people will be happy and everyone else will be pissed off. I hope they get a few more than two...otherwise I don't think a preorder is gonna help me.

Yeah I was talking to my friend about how that rumor was shot down months ago, and he was kind of listening in. The girl left, so he stopped talking about it. It funny to just insert a few remarks that really gets people thinking. It's amazing how misinformed people are out there. Everyone walks around saying PS3 is gonna suck. It's a shame that the media has shat on PS3 info so much lately becuase its all these people hear.

^^ There could be some truth to that number, when you consider 400K units spread nationally across thousands of retailers... I would say the stores may receive five or seven consoles, and actually sell three or four to consumers.
It's going to be really difficult to obtain a console at launch, it will require luck, extreme dedication & connections to get a console.

I have the dedication. I play poker so I'm lacking in luck. And I just got down here to college, so I don't know anyone that works at the local EB...Guess I'm just gonna look for some shooting stars...

^ Since you have dedication, I have a suggestion that should get you a PS3 guaranteed...
Camp out front of your local Walmart on Nov 15 and you should be toward the front of the line or first and that should guarantee you a console. Considering the value of the consoles on Ebay, I'm sure many consumers that are not PS3 fans will be fighting for a console...

Sheeeit, I'm gonna do whatever it takes. If anyone tries to stop me from getting my ps3, I'll be dead on his ass like spencer-for-f****n'-hire! I'll hunt him down and feed him his own testicles AND I'll do it in a jiffy! And I don't care if his momma there, his grandmomma, innocent bystanders, little kids, babysitters, bill collectors, WHATEVER! I'll leave his whole BLOCK filled with hot brass if I have to. And you know why? Because I just. don't. give a f***!

Every store is going to get a different number -- I doubt they'll get 2, though! That's why stores haven't started taking pre-orders yet -- they need to know how many they'll have.
If employees spout out bullsh** like that, please please please call them out and embarrass the hell out of them for it, they honestly don't deserve their job. ;0
