The Game Plan

Eh, it's for the kids and I like Dwayne Johnson, he is genuinely a good man.

So I enjoyed watching this, a few lols and it wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be at some parts (though in others, it was).

Good acting overall too (except for the ballerina teacher) so I was pleasantly surprised with that.

No other comments and remember I rate films based upon it's own context....
...So this gets a nice solid 7/10.

The Dark Knight - 4 stars out of 5

Praises

-Great special effects, amazing pacing, solid directing, awesome action scenes and totally awesome CQC... and more. I did not take much liking towards Batman Begins. This film I thought was far more the Batman in every way.

-Batman's voice reminded me of my loveboat Solid Snake, so did the CQC, and so did the recovery balloon & plane arm combination.

-Seeing William Fichtner at the beginning of the film was interesting and nostalgic, I thought he did awesome and enjoyed his presense.

-Many scenes well played by keeping you guessing as to what is really going on until the whole unfolding of a scene. The grimness and dirtiness of some of the action was very intense and well played out - a.k.a. Joker's first formal and lengthy introduction... very wicked.

-This movie is certainly no 14A film and seems like it was only given such a rating for more sales - should've been R for sure.

-The criticism of Heath Ledger's performance floats completely past my head. Completely.

Criticisms

-I did not like 3D effects on you-know-who's face. It was a huge turn off for me and would've been far better with some creative use of makeup. I'm flattered every time by the amazing special effects in Star Wars IV to VI and Jurassic Park using real materials combined so well with powerful special effects - from the T-Rex to the wicked Rancor - I'm surprised such high profile films don't afford the same thing.

-Everyone is going to like Batman now. I've been a huge Batman fan for a while and I'm thankful for such a great film to be bestowed upon us... but that's not that cool when everyone jumps on the bandwagon. :(

Additional Banter

-I really enjoyed Harvey Dent as a good guy and knowing he was going to turn for most of the movie both added to the intensity of the film and made me feel a little bad. :(

-Watchmen had an awesome trailer at my viewing, The Day the Earth Stood Still was interesting too (remake, no?). It seems special effects in movies is making more Western audiences more imagery that almost screams Final Fantasy or other Japanese ideas filled with fantasy type concoctions.

The Man Who Knew Too Much

It didn't really feel like a Hitchcock movie, especially cinematography wise but other than that, it was compelling enough.

It's been a weird day and this was the best bit about my day....or days. I forgot when I last slept.

But anyway it's Pixar so obviously my expectations were high and it met them.
Very nice and original film and it's delivered in such a unique and charming way.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Now I would like to warn you all I know NOTHING about Fantastic Four except the 1st movie so I don't know what it usually goes for in terms of superhero dilemmas and it's villains but both these aspects in this movie was pretty weak.

Silver Surfer wasn't even a bad guy and for the first hour or so, the film was like a wedding planner which then gets wrecked by a pretty boring "villain" who just flies around changing the climate or something.

Then the 'villain' [Silver Surfer]gets caught and tested on by the real villain then the Fantastic4 rescue him (in a very unexciting manner) then there is an ok fight scene in the air which ends stupidly and then Silver Surfer flies up and stops the real problem which is just a huge tornado that eats planets.

This film should have been called:
The Fantastic Wedding and the day Silver Surfer saved the world

Another big problem was that every scene, every fight (not many of them, mind you), even every dialogue had a sense of urgency in them.
It felt like the director had to be somewhere and so he rushed every scene to the point of where nothing ever builds up and every event happens so quickly one cut after another, without any satisfaction.

So I really didn't like this and thought it was the most boring and pointless "superhero" (or should I say 'super villain') movie I ever saw.

4/10.

Stargate Continuum:
Great movie. I love the stargate series, and this movie was done pretty well, although there does seem to be a creative barrier nowadays with the writers because they seem to want to rehash old plots. You can't really blame them though because they have been through 10 seasons of Stargate: SG1 and they are currently on the 5th season of Stargate Atlantis.

Anyways, the movie was better than the last one that was released (The Ark of Truth) and despite having somewhat of a rehashed concept, it was pulled off pretty well. I enjoyed it.

What an explosive ending, it stands out pretty nicely.
Actually it kinda ends explosively, then does the nice Hollywood wrap-up but you can just ignore that and act like it ended in a dark open ended way.

Other than that, it had Will Smith, super powers, good special effects, nice humour and good action.

So, 7/10.

A couple weeks back I caught The Dark Knight, and watched it again two days later in IMAX, and I'll definitely be adding it to my DVD collection when it's released. That's definitely one of my favorite movies, period. Last weekend we watched The X-Files: I Want to Believe, and as fans of the show we both enjoyed it, but I don't imagine anyone that wasn't an X-Files fan to enjoy it too much. Last night we watched Be Kind Rewind from Netflix, which was alright.

The Dark Knight

Let's start off with the negatives, I was anything but a fan of 'Batman Begins', I thought it lacked clear direction and the character building was done way too forcefully and thus it didn't have the emotional effect the director had planned.
The villain I thought was a snore-fest and I thought it lacked any good action scenes and overall found the whole experience a boring chore to sit through.

But hey, why so serious?

First of all as a person who never read comic books, finding out where that phrase comes from gave me goosebumps and just by explaining that little short story in a twisted situation, I was more immersed in that one character than all the characters of Batman Begins put together.

This is a huge huge plus point for me as some of you may know by now, I love nothing more than good characters in film and The Joker was by far the most genius.
And the good answer is, I can't tell you why.

You know when you fall in love or get a huge crush on someone you notice all the little things that person does, well The Joker is like a psychotic version of that crush.

I am not saying this just because he passed on but I gotta say, I don't think it is possible to bring alive The Joker as well as Heath Ledger did in this film.
I smiled from ear to ear at his performance, it was simply pure genius.

So okay, they obviously took care of the villain problem as he isn't some guy with a potato bag over his head, gassing everyone anymore.
So what else how they done right?

Action that matters.
This was like a dark gritty and clever investigation film mixed with good 'Hollywood action' sequences.

Now I haven't seen every film in the world (far from it) but as far as my memory can recollect, you either get a dark gritty investigation movie with 'subtle violence' or you get a film with good 'Hollywood action' sequences that are not tied together in any meaningful way. However; this film achieved best of both worlds greatly.
Well maybe not TOO greatly as at one point I thought "Am I watching Batman or a detective film?" But literally, just one scene after I thought that, the Batman action began.

Speaking of Batman action; the action sequences- How did they correct those?
Well it's no longer a room full of bad guys suddenly disappearing after the screen flashes and the audiences are left wondering "where is all the fun?".
This time, we see more of what Batman does and boy he does some great things.
MINOR SPOILERS (I tell you what happens but provide no detail on the action):
I won't tell you when or how he does it but how does flipping a 18wheeler with just some wires sound?
Taking out a building of criminals with stealthy entry and kills that ends with him escaping out of the place hanging onto a plane and then taking off through a blown up wall.

Honestly, this is what a great film simply is.
Only attempting things that it knows can do well.
It doesn't try to turn this into a sobby love story, it doesn't turn it into a big dilemma of who Batman is or what he should stand for.....Although there are those elements, they are touched on very quickly and more importantly, smartly, so you get the satisfaction of understanding these situation without the film losing track.

I honestly haven't seen a big Hollywood film that is THIS focused in so long.
It simply was pure genius and pure excellence.

I can't think of anything to pick on and as my rating system is based purely on what the film does and how well it does it (as opposed to comparing it with other standards) AND since I can't seriously think of anything this film did that was less than genius;

It gets my first ever 10/10.

Bad... really bad. Terrible dialogue, completely unsatisfactory replacement for Rachel Weisz, stupid story, and boring action. I had to walk out of the theatre for a bit & hang out with my coworkers/have a smoke because I was just getting restless in there. I came back in and my friends told me I missed the whole Yeti scene... I didn't feel bad in the least.

Step Brothers

This movie had a few funny parts, but overall it's one of the stupidest movies I've seen in awhile. I think most of it was just too random to be funny, and a lot of characters that were meant to be hilarious were just annoying and useless.

Following

Finally got around to seeing Christopher Nolan's first film (besides Doodlebug, which was a short I believe, and this one's about an hour long), and I loved it. Nolan is such an amazing writer & director, I'll never stop being impressed with that man.

Vantage Point

Some of the things happening in it is a bit of a stretch which I can understand of course since you know, it's not real but for a film that was trying pretty hard to be a clever and serious 'rewind and tell tale from another perspective' thing, all those unrealistic situations kind ruined it.

It was like- Things go bad realistically, things go bad realistically, things go bad realistically....OMG SOMETHING UNREALISTIC HAPPENED AND THE MOMENT IS SAVED YAY!
Which makes every moment building up to it pointless if they were going to be cancelled out by some extremely coincidental moment or whatever.

And it kinda ruined it.
Well it didn't RUIN it perse, it just stopped it from being great and just downgraded to good, which is still....good.

The acting I thought was just about passable except for literally just one guy; the main bodyguard who was pretty good and by the way, he can get out of a crushed car without a scratch!
But yeah all the other actors were mediocre to 'err...' acting especially when delivering their lines.

I felt by the end they could have made this a short TV series and all those bits where it rewinds, would be a new episode which I think would have worked much better.

I was ready to give this baby another one of my 8s at the start when I thought it would be a nice deep murder investigation thingy but really it never took itself as smart so we obviously couldn't either.

So instead it gets a 6/10.

hehe, well it was a Terry Gilliam movie ;) Personally i quite like that "what the fuck was that?!?!?" feeling that he manages to put in all his movies, along with the black humour, but it's definately a matter of personal taste - you're not alone if you don't like it. But generally, if you see "directed by terry gilliam", expect to see a lot of wierdness ;) Speaking of which, i finally managed to find a copy of Brazil today, which i can't wait to see :)

Appleseed: Ex Machina. Awesome...plot wise, I'm not sure if it's as good as the first one, but I don't remember.

Is that the CGI 3D/cellshading one that came out a few years ago? i managed to find that at jb hifi a few days ago, havent finished watching it yet, but its pretty cool, nice eyecandy and great soundtrack, but it seems to lack a lot of the emotion that traditional anime has. Still, its been a good watch so far.

I also saw tropic thunder last night. Its got some great lines, but i have to say that theres some fairly stupid stuff in there too - and you definately walk out of the cinema feeling like an idiot. RDJ's lines were great though, particularly the "lead farmer" one :) and Tom Cruise did a bloody brilliant job playing the personification of scientology ;)

7/10.

7/10? it was an 8-8.5/10 easy.

I laughed hard in many parts of the movie. It had great parts of dark humor while maintaining a very serious plot.

This movie proved to me that

A. Colin Farrell can act and be hilarious. And i needed this because after i saw Alexander i never wanted to watch another movie with him in it again.

B. Ralph Fiennes is amazingly funny. Especially the whole "****" conversation between him and Brendan Gleeson. I've never seen him in a role like this.

C. Karate...

If you haven't seen this movie, you need to. It is a very dark movie, but its also very funny. I know a few people who didn't like the ending. It's a little strange and hard to swallow but it makes sense given the tone of the movie.

Despite the fact that in rental stores the movie actually came with a sticker on it that said "Starring Jennifer Aniston!!!!!!" written on it (here is Australia at least), Office space was a half decent movie. Although some parts seemed basically designed to be quoted.

Watched Blood Diamond the other night. Great movie, and just like every movie with Djimon Hounsou, very emotional. (Really, if anyone wants to give a movie an emotional feeling at the end, they should just show footage of Djimon looking off into the distance at sunset, regardless of whether he was a character in the movie or not.) Also had one of the best fake accents in a recent movie, and Jennifer Connoly (sp.?)

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
I forced myself to watch this. I don't really follow the Fantastic Four comics, but I'm pretty sure this didn't follow it very well. Either way, the movie was pretty bad.

Half of the movie was spent on a wedding ceremony that never exactly happens and the other part is about getting the Silver Surfer's board. Galactus was also rushed in. Instead of making him off of his character, they make him into some weird ass cloud thing that eats planets for no reason what-so-ever. No mention of the Power Cosmic or all that jazz.
Hell, that's the only part that upset me. Galactus is one of my favorite characters and it was sad to see him be so...underwhelming.

crappy/10

Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick
I just finished watching both of these. It was the first time I saw them both since they were last in movie theaters.

The movies weren't exactly spectacular, but I really liked the concepts the movies had. Pitch Black was good on its own, but Chronicles went crazy with the ideas (which I liked). It's a shame that the movies didn't flesh out those ideas further.
Plus, I'm still waiting for another movie. Riddick was always a cool character and I want to know what happens to him.

So...based off the concepts: awesome
based off the acting and other mumbo jumbo: not so awesome.

Oddly enough, I think it was your mini-review that made me watch it all. If a movie is really bad, I tend to not dislike it entirely since it gives me something to talk about.

But yeah, the movie was 86 minutes long and could've easily been a half-hour longer. There was a lot of explaining that needed to be done, but instead everything felt flat. The characters, the plot...everything was flat. I don't even thing the 60's comics were as flat as the movies.
I didn't feel that sense of urgency like you did, but everything did feel rushed. It seemed like they tried giving the characters depth, but failed to do so. Any time the chance occured, they would quickly cut to another scene.

Oh well.

The Girl Who Lept Through Time

One of the most charming animated movies I have ever seen, The Girl Who Lept Through Time is the story about you're typical japenese highschool girl and how she uses her newly found power to go back and forth in time. While the plot does sound boring, outlandish, and stupid, it is handled amazingly well by the great characters that are in it. Conversations With Other Women

Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart act really well together in this movie. This film appears in split-screens which are utilized to show flashbacks, and alternate versions of the present - which becomes less of a nuisance as the story progresses. In a nutshell, the movie revolves solely around a conversation between a man and a woman and their past circumstances.

Le Scaphandre et le Papillon

This film is about Jean Dominique Bauby, editor of the French fashion-magazine Elle. The film centers around the stroke he suffered from at the age of 43 which left him with "Locked-in Syndrome", a condition where he's fully paralyzed, and unable to communicate verbally due to the limited functions of his brain. Various speech therapists develop a way for him to communicate through blinking. A single blink means "yes" and a double blink would represent "no", with the basics of that being understood, the therapists utilize the French alphabet to allow him to spell out words and communicate at a very basic level.

He was able to write his memoir, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by blinking when the letter he intended to write was reached by a person slowly reciting the alphabet continuously.

Watched Max Payne and Sex Drive yesterday...

Sex Drive was "meh," a typical teen virginity movie in every way but it did have some funny parts (some weren't intentional though, like when this girl is trying to have sex with the main character and he is just talking about colleges and stuff, completely not thinking about sex, this guy sitting behind me says, "fucking faggot." I couldn't believe somebody would actually say that in a theatre at something like that so I laughed pretty hard  )

Max Payne was meh as well, the story was closer than I thought it was going to be (the supernatural stuff had me really worried), but there wasn't nearly enough action. I know slow-mo action has been overdone in movies and games, but when you make a Max Payne, you have free license to use it as shamelessly as you want because I used it all the time while playing the game and had an absolute blast. Some parts were cool in that they reminded me of the comic-book style of the cinematics and the one slow-mo scene was really high quality (like, the same as test footage you'll see for rockets or bullets online), they just didn't do it nearly enough. Even though the story was closer than I thought, they still should've just stuck with the story from the first game. It was more complex, mature (this movie should have been rated R. No questions about that.), darker, and just flat-out written better. People adapting games into movies need to have more faith in the original source...

POSTAL

Weeeeeeeeeell..It wasn't THAT bad.
I mean I survived watching it but I was expecting it to be more crazy and retarded in more of an adult manner (like the game) but I guess Uwe Boll's mental age doesn't go very high to pull that off.

I thought the city was okay-ly presented and closest the film got to portraying the game but the humour and the violence was no-where near the game's quality (which isn't rated that high).

3/10.

Mr Moore hilarious as always.
My first impressions of him was this fat whiny documentary maker but the way he gets his points across are hilarious and at the end of this one he helps a lot of people, even his enemies. :)

I have laughed, cried and pitied [at] USA during this documentary about the healthcare system there.

The gist of it is: Unless you have shit loads of money, they put you on the waiting list.
Not on the waiting list to be treated, but on the waiting list to die so you stop bothering them and they save their money.

Mr Moore's answer to the solution?
Showing us that "socialism" works in countries like France and Britain where when you tax high (especially the richer) and use that money to help people, it all works out.
Sounds like a plan a recent politician had...Oh yeah, Obama.

He also does a few other funny things I won't mention as it will spoil it (funny as in showing irony, not "haha" funny perse).

Oh and French people even get nannies from the government for free who look after their baby and do their house work.
I didn't know this and it was awesome to hear about it.

That my friends is democracy at work.
In contrast, USA is democracy at it's most corrupt state.
Shame.

9/10.

Also;
Paranoid
Pretty crappy....In fact probably my least favourite movie of the year.
People kept freaking out for no reason (I guess because they are paranoid...) and the twisted angle Mr Director was going for REALLY didn't work out.
It had an OK ending I guess but that might have just been me being happy that it ended rather than it actually being a good ending lol

1/10.
It's just about watchable.

Um... my family isn't rich and we've never had a problem with health care. Ever. Please don't let Michael Moore convince you of anything, he is a fat prick with no less of an agenda than the people he tries to bring down, they're all wankers of the highest degree. I haven't seen Sicko, but Roger & Me, Bowling for Columbine, and Farenheit 9/11 were enough proof that he's less of a documentary filmmaker and more like a politician.

His movies are also horrible things to judge this country by, how about you see it for yourself?

I wish the next Final Fantasy looked like this. Visually so so clever, I have a feeling the next one might suck, it'll all be about how Hell Boy deals with fatherhood... Ummm... Don't care, really.

Zodiac - Blu Ray

This is why I dig the Blu, freaking hours and hours of extras. To the point where you don't much care about who this Zodiac guy is anymore. At least 5 hours of material on the subject. Movie itself is of course ultimately unsatisfying, and starts to turn into the Kennedy Assassination, a dozen different theories put forward by a bunch of guys who hate each other. Righteous Kill

"DeNiro and Pacino ruined" some said after this movie, I guess some people were born over dramatic.
The only good thing in this movie were Pacino and DeNiro.

The film was pretty weak overall though, 4/10.

Taken
Fucking kick-assssss!!!

Great story, great pace, great action.
The main guy was awesome.
Pretty great movie.

I always end up giving 8 for movies that I've really enjoyed because 10 is hard to give and it wasn't made so well that it deserves a 9 so yes, 8 it is.

Wall-E

Oh man that was so fucking awesome.
Not only was it an awesomely cute and great film to watch, it also has many lessons that it reminds us of.

Pixar is the fucking king.

9/10.

---THE BOURNE SERIES---

The Bourne Identity

Clever, nice fight scenes, good action, good acting, awesome package.

I think it's another one worthy of a 9/10.

The Bourne Supremacy

I thought it was a little less tense than the first one mainly because we knew some things and it was "Bourne tying up lose ends" kind of script.

That chase scene for it's length was very good, I thought I would get bored real quick but the chase kept my attention for a while, although I did wonder why the police back up never came and how Bourne so freely walked out of [where the chase scene ended] so it loses points for that.

Overall I have to say it wasn't as well as a package as the first, the first one was more...'tight', there were "hmmm? how did that happen?" moments in this one and I know it's a movie but the 1st didn't have as many as "lol no way" moments as this one did.

Overall this one gets 8/10.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Fucking fantastic.

Lots of edge of the seat moments, great story, much better action (than the second) and overall as awesome as the 1st one.

Another 9/10 Bourne movie.
----------

Secret Window

Johny Depp definitely spiced this film up and made it more enjoyable.

The twist was kind of obvious, I saw it coming around half way through but still a good watch I guess, nothing bad about it.

5/10.

That looked nothing like Milwaukee at all! It was humorous hearing that the county I lived in was pretty much destroyed.

Outside of the Wisconsin setting, the movie wasn't too bad. I just hated the zombies in general.

Shot in fantastic 16mm and Stereo sound, possibly not the best looking Blu you've seen, but ermm... Nearest I'll get to a Christmas movie.

Let The Right One In

You know what I mostly don't like in movies? Kid actors.
You know what was one of the great things in this movie? Kid actors.

So acting was great, the story was one of the most unique stories I've ever had to pleasure of watching and the characters were all excellently presented.

If I was any of the characters in this film, I would have done exactly the same thing as they did in their unique situations and this adds to the satisfaction of the film.
To achieve this feeling in a scenario including vampires just makes it even better.

Very superb package overall, I'm also going to give it a 9/10.
Thanks for the heads up Transcend.

Usually when the family gets together at Christmas, we watch movies. Here's what I saw today:

-The Women
This movie probably had some purpose, but it felt a lot like Sex and the City, minus the Sex part. Definitely a chick flick, but not in a cheezy, romantic kind of way. One part of it was pretty funny, but it isn't something I'll be watching ever again.

-Hancock
I didn't need to see this movie since I already heard everything there was to know about it, but there I was watching it. The movie had a great idea at the beginning and then it went to crap. I liked how they made an attempt at trying to take the superhero concept and altering it. This guy didn't really care about everyone (so we think), and it's funny how the movie brought up the costs of the damages this guy did. It's a nice twist.
I also liked how they tried making him acceptable to everyone else. However, that wasn't the purpose of the movie. I guess the purpose was about him and his superhero girlfriend. As soon as that part came in, everything else was garbage.

If they just made the movie all about what was introduced early on, and not so much about this "fated lovers" nonsense, I would've loved this movie.

-The Dark Knight
There isn't really a whole lot to say about this that hasn't been said already. Despite how illogical the story was, the movie was still damn good.

Not that fun to watch with my mom around. She likes to ask questions and yell out accusations about what's going to happen. It's annoying as fuuuuuuuuuuck.

But after actually watching the movie boy was I wrong and cannot wait for the game....which will still probably be shit. But yeah, movie was good. Excellent film, what I've enjoyed the most was it didn't take itself seriously and yet still managed to not be on the goofy side.

Great special effects as well.
I know Special FX are "omg so 90s!" but there was something about this film's effects that really made me say "wow, they are nice".

I'll give it a....9/10.
Oh and Megan Fox is definitely not that interesting looking at all (and no I'm not gay lulz), so the eye candy for the film was disappointing girl wise.

Stayed awake through Batman TDK this time. Yeah it's OK, does every well with the thread bare material. I've seen American Psycho recently though and I keep expecting Bruce Wayne to drill some lady in the back of the head while enthusing about Phil Collins. Or the scene where the joker pisses him off by showing him his really excellently made business card.

Iron Man
Set in some kind of weird parallel universe where a sleazy arms manufacturer gets Time Magazine Steve Jobs status, and suddenly realizes that naughty foreign men might be using his weapons too, instead of just god fearing white christian americans. Even though he's clearly not the brightest spark he manages to create a Guyver suit in a week. He also creates the solution to the world's energy problems in that week, but keeps it just to power his silly metal suit. What a mean git.

Also have I got this right, he has iron fragments near his heart, but instead of seeking medical attention to remove them he keeps them from going deeper with an electro magnet. Why doesn't he just turn the electro magnet up and they'll just pop out.

Then again it is a comic book.

Quite surprising they didn't turn this into a decent video game.

Awesome movie, can't explain why...just awesome. One of those movies where everything fits perfectly - like they've put together a jigsaw in front of you and got every piece in the right place, first time. Also pretty emotional - think of the climax of of a dramatic movie from the last ten years, and that's what this is like basically from the beginning. The funny parts are actually funny, too, unlike most movies of this type, and leaves you with a "cool" feeling rather than an "oh my god im so depressed" feeling the way a lot of dramatic movies do.I'm probably doing an average job of explaining it, so just go and see it.

Also has the hottest lead female of pretty much any movie. ever. (and i'm not actually sure if she's indian? her name is Freida Porto i think... sounds fairly latin to me... but either way, i don't mind ;))

I thought the movie was pretty weak. It was incredibly slow and only had a few laugh-out-loud moments. I was attempted to think that the movie wasn't funny because I don't smoke weed, but I then remembered Half-Baked was funnier than hell. Hmm.

-Pan's Labyrinth

I didn't care too much for it. I was sad to see how much of the movie didn't involve a labyrinth. Or any crazy, imaginary stuff.

-Afro Samurai: Ressurection

I was really looking forward to this. Man, I was disappointed. I was hoping it would be an actual series as opposed to a movie, but that's not why I was disappointed. The story was pretty "meh," and it didn't seem nearly as entertaining as the first season. Plus, some of the story didn't make sense (conflicted with what happened in the first season). I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was enjoyable but nothing too special. Biggie was cast really well, however, and the performances were solid unlike other movies of this kind *cough*8 mile*cough*. All in all, I'd give it a 7/10

Saw Underworld a week ago. Rhonna Mitra is hot, but she is no substitute for Kate. But beyond that, the special effects took a hit from the previous two movies with the lycans looking straight out of a made for tv movie. To make maters worse, the action scenes left much to be desired and, coupled with how dark the movie was, were very hard to follow. I guess the story was remotely interesting but it was presented pretty terribly. All in all, a 5/10.

Never heard of The Wire. I don't keep up with TV except for Seinfelds and Frasiers though lol.

I watched Wall-E again. This time... in HD :O

It's okay I guess... it was just way too predictable (yes, I get it, it's not just for my demographic) and I really didn't respond to the characters at all. Just any part of the film... I dunno nothing really stood out even in just the context of the film itself. It just kept going and going and then it finally ended.

Wall-E 'coming back' at the end was so lame as well haha. My God... Pixar really ought to look at some more drama films to see how to do a 'bring back the character at the end' scene.

Maybe it's all just because I thought Eve and Wall-E were so boring.

I thought the best part of the movie was the awesome art that made up the early credit sequence. I want to see Pixar make a movie out of a totally wild art scheme like that.

I know it's not a movie but hey:
The Wire Season 1

First let me say for some reason I thought it all came together too quickly, I can't put my finger on why...But I even went back and checked if I missed an episode or not and I haven't and it still felt too quick.
I don't mean the time of the show, I mean how quick the case got thrown together.

Other than that I thought it had enough of a variety of characters to be fun but also thought that each character lacked impact (especially the Lieutenant whose acting was also a bit dodgy at times) but that's my only criticism of Season1.
I liked the "pawn shop cop" the best (as side character).

Other than that, it was tense, emotional and fun all the way.

Fav. Soundbite from Season1 and if he keeps saying it, it will remain my fav soundbite for the whole of the Seasons:
McNulty: What the fuck did I do?!

Close second:
Omar's psychotic whistle tune.

Scene with the most impact:
When Wallace got shot.....I thought he was gonna get out of it somehow but damn...

Close second:
When they listen to the wire tape leading up to the black cop getting shot

That sums up my few years late and pretty much pointless feedback/ review of The Wire (Season 1).
Season 2 review coming up soon!

PS. I love you--surprisingly grim, and kinda bleak love story. Wasn't all peachy/rosy like most romances are, but it was actually realistic, while still providing a happy ending. Up there with the best of them, while offering a unique twist.

Perfect Blue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRqYOIeZ2lQ&fmt=18): Really great psycho-thriller from Kon Satoshi [director of Paprika and Paranoia Agent]. Though the animation is a bit dated to today's standards, the movie is still very enjoyable overall.

The plot revolves around Mima, a Japanese pop-idol who begins her transition into becoming an actress, during this transition she begins to lose touch with her identity and the line between her real life and the altered reality she imagines begins to fade.

I thought this movie was GREAT. From beggening to end, thought it was great. Even had some heart pumping moments. Basically you got Samuel L Jackson who plays Able, a LAPD cop. A black and white couple moves in next door and from that point on it turned to hell, destined to get them to move out.

9/10 if it wasnt for the crappy ending >_>

Well what can I say, it confirmed what we all knew.

Bush isn't evil, he is a dumbass and that maybe a President who goes "with his guts" all the time shouldn't be a President in the first place because...What's that thing you do before you go with your gut? Oh yeah, THINK.

Good film overall, very good acting as well except for the actress who played Condoleezza Rice who had a really annoying voice and you just had to say "stfu" every time she spoke.

This film is a perfect film that at the end makes you say "W., you should have stuck with baseball and good fucking riddance."

A regular good old 7/10.

Did the also convey that it was basically Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld that made Bush go to war? Lol.

If only Colin Powell was VP instead...

If only Bush picked other people for his cabinet and stuff. But then again he probably didn't decide that for himself either.

Hats off to the puppet GW. Or... not. :cowboy:

Well the intelligence at that time was wrong and he took the wrong intelligence and rushed way too quickly into the war with it, for oil and world domination (in a sense).

And yes it WAS the Vice who persuaded him along with "Rummy".

Anyway, end of politic talk puhlease.

A regular good old 7/10.

Considering how annoying she is in real life, I thought she was a perfect cast for the role.

I loved the movie personally as it tried to go past the cliche making Bush seem like a bastard and everything being his fault and actually made him seem like a real person. I enjoyed it.

Taken- awesome popcorn flick.

My Bloody Valentine 3D: A very bloody, gory film that's not afraid to have fun. It makes no pretensions on being a serious horror film, but it still manages to be suspensful and genuinely nail biting. I really hope this comes to blu-ray in 3d.

Um forget my praise about Slumdog Millionaire.

***k Slumdog Millionaire and everyone involved in it.

Those kids got paid 3000 dollars or less, down to 600 dollars, and are back on the streets.

And those are the people who made the movie, that movie would be nothing without the acting of those younger kids. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are completely exchangeable, the kids set up their relationship for the later movie.

I repeat: ***k Slumdog Millionaire. ***k this stupid **s film. ***k movies. ***k Hollywood.

Watched Taken the other night, it was very awesome. It felt pretty low-budget (probably because it was) during the car-chase scenes, and I wasn't a fan of the editing in that respect, but it had some awesome parts, a cool story, and Liam Neeson has one of the coolest voices ever. Love that song that plays on the credits as well...

Liam Neeson is my new favorite badass because of this film.

He's like Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford put together! But better!

But I was hoping he was going to pull out a lightsaber throughout most of his fight scenes.

My girlfriend and I saw this on a whim. We thought it would be hilariously bad, kind of like Versus (except Versus was still kind of good). This movie doesn't have a whole lot going for it. It's pretty...bizarre? Ridiculous? It definitely isn't a movie you can sit and take seriously. This is a movie you need to watch with your best buds, while you're shooting the shit and cracking jokes.

Street Fighter

I saw this movie once when I was a kid, but it was a faint memory. Until now. This movie is bad, but it's worse if you know anything about Street Fighter. I think the only character the movie managed to capture well was Zangief, but every character feels pretty bland. I don't think the movie does a whole lot "right," which is kind of sad.
However, this movie will probably make a better G.I. Joe movie than the G.I. Joe movie coming out in August.

Quite enjoyable, and one of the friends I saw it with said it pleased him more than Corpse Bride. I daresay it may be the true successor to Nightmare Before Christmas.

Pride and Glory was a decent corrupt cop movie, but nothing special.

I stopped watching Max Payne about 30 minutes in. Maybe I'll finish it later.

There Will Be Blood was on TV today and I planned on just catching a few minutes, but I ended up watching all of it.

I watched Falling Down and Fired Up recently....kind of odd how those movie titles kind of contrast each other.

Falling Down
I thought the movie was pretty funny, despite it not really being a comedy. It wasn't funny in a bad way, though. I enjoyed it and I felt an odd connection between Douglas' character and myself. Which is kind of sad considering that character went batshit crazy. But I liked the premise to the movie: a guy snaps because of all of the small things piling up. Traffic, overpriced soda, bad fast food, etc etc.

Fired Up
I hadn't seen anything about this movie, but my dad wanted to see a movie with me so I let him pick one out. This is a comedy about two teenage boys who want to fuck every girl they can. Then they get the genius idea to go to a cheerleading camp so they can have lots and lots of sex. The premise and layout of the whole movie was pretty predictable but the movie still had it's funny moments.

Friday the 13th (remake)

I knew this movie would be terrible going in but I really had nothing better to do. It wasn't suspenseful in the least, the deaths weren't gory OR imaginative, and the characters were even harder to like then normal. On the plus side we did get to see three girls topless, Jason actually ran, pretty quickly too, for his victims instead of the annoying stalking, and there were two gems for quotes in the movie:

"Your boobs are stupendous"

and...

"You have perfect nipple placement"

Those lines will be used as jokes for a long long time for me.

I give it a solid D

Serenity

It felt like just what it was, a longer episode of the series with a larger budget. But its painfully obvious that the story and characters had a lot more to give. The movie tried to tie it all up in a favorable way but there is no denying that this show was canceled prematurely.

I give it a solid B

Legend
I enjoyed the sets and Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness was awesome as hell, but the rest of the movie wasn't my cup of tea.

Watchmen
I thought the movie was pretty good, but I think I would enjoy it more in its graphic novel form. The movie looked pretty good, but it felt kind of...rushed? Despite it being almost a 3 hour long movie, I think everything went too fast.

But I think the Comedian is my idol.

Pretty generous rating in my opinion.

Last movie I watched was "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Jack Nicholson is one of a kind. He's brilliant! Anyone who hasn't seen it, hunt it down and give it some viewage.

Plus he lost his job... It was definitely an awesome movie though. I'm surprised that it isn't more popular. Oh and did you guys know that it on the shelf for years before Douglas stumbled upon the script. Nobody would produce it until Douglas gave it a read and was blown away by it.

I say everyone should see this movie. Been sick as hell since Monday and havent cracked a smile since but when i was watching this movie it had me laughing throughout. Got it all, McLovin, humor, boobs, insane amount of cursing, corny yet funny scenes...did i mention boobs? But seriously, good movie, check it out. IGN gave this best comedy of 2008, as its all i can remember atm i have to agree
