Hmmmm, I watched a movie about some soldiers going to get another soldier because his brothers had died. But he was deep in Germany. I can't remember its name.

I think the main charactr was Tom Hanks. And they blew up a bridge at the end. And there was a neurotic wimpy American translator guy.

i watched a couple short films by david lynch. "the grandmother." interesting and kind of disgusting at times, but really lacking the poigniently incomprehensible of his later works. whereas his later films deal with dialogue and interaction subtly, everything is way over the top here and missing that element of reality that makes even the most absurd of his movies believable inside the lie.

also "the alphabet" which was basically just a really creepy collection of pictures/songs/scenes etc. it wasn't really a story, but as it was explained in the prologue to the two films it was based on a nightmare his neice had so i guess it wasn't supposed to be narrative, as not all dreams are.
I felt that 'The Grandmother' took a bit too long to get to the middle.
I haven't seen it for a while.
I like the way it mixed animation in.
That old style of animation art.

Also, I preferred 'Six Men Getting Sick Six Times'* to 'The Alphabet'.
Which I actually find odd considering that it consists of a short loop with like a warning sound repeating.

(*Not only tongue twisty, but I had typing trouble too.)

It was probably A Scanner Darkly.
Gahhh!!!
Everybody is seeing this film before me!!!
Damn Australia!
Damn not having been released into cinemas here yet!
Damn not being able to go across the country to the film festival which happens to be where it is premiering, or has already premiered!

Coming in at the end of my post, I watched that tape of 'Stranger Than Paradise'.
I liked it.
I liked it more as it went on.
I still prefer some other Jarmusch films though.
'Night On Earth' being my favorite.
With 'Coffee And Cigarettes' a close second.
And the beauty and elegance of 'Dead Man' is hard to forget.

Glengarry Glen Ross. Great actors doing what they do best. Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey.

Some of the more memorable lines:

"What's your name?"
"Fuck you! That's my name. You know why, mister? 'Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight, I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. That's my name."

"A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have your attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action."

"Your name is "you're wanting", and you can't play the man's game, you can't close them, and then tell your wife your troubles. 'Cause only one thing counts in this world: get them to sign on the line which is dotted. You hear me you fuckin' faggots?"

"You stupid fucking ****. You, Williamson, I'm talking to you, shithead. You just cost me $6,000. Six thousand dollars, and one Cadillac. That's right. What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it, asshole? You're fucking shit. Where did you learn your trade, you stupid fucking ****, you idiot? Who ever told you that you could work with men? Oh, I'm gonna have your job, shithead."

Great dialogue by Mamet. A must if you want to see masterful acting.

The Lake House - Its a boring movie, but when you least expect it, the movie surprises you, however, the surprise WILL be obvious in the beginning, the middle, and slightly BEFORE the end of the movie, but if you don't get the clues before the movie, that's where the surprise comes in the end, Angela will cry from this movie,

Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift - AWESOME movie. I agree with the critics when they say this is the best in the series. There WILL be a sequel - the ending will confirm it, watch it yourself, I will not spoil it for ya,

and Stick It - Funny, and clever, most call it "just for teens," and will write it off by saying it sucks. But me? I like it.

Dorm Daze 2 - Three words: Hilarious, Hilarious, Hilarious! Its so funny, you'll laugh hard. Its funny, stupid funny, though.

Click - Hm. I would not be bothered by a sequel, in fact, since the movie has so much potential with the concept, they SHOULD make a sequel. Its hilarious. Its cleverly funny. This is Sandler's third best. Congratulations, Adam, good job on retaining your comedic reputation.

It's been a weird month of filming for me...No idea why but I hardly felt like watching a movie. Which sucks. But these are the few movies that I cought recently.

Scream- It was much better than I remembered it to be. Cheesy but in a great kind of way. The movie wants you to laugh at it at times.

Casino- Thank you SKY (UK) for giving me this opportunity to FINALLY watch this movie. The transition between narrative and dialogue to give you the sense of the story was absolutely amazing. Having two narratives made it a genius movie.

Heist- ZZZZzzzz. The TV Guide gave this 5 stars. Yeah, 5 Stars if movies were rated based on helping out people with sleep problems.

That is all....Oh man this sucks. I think I'll go to the cinema to see more movies now...Actually I hate the cinema so I'll just rent some movies tomorrow.

EDIT: Read the thread. I will rent some of the movies mentioned (mainly 'A History Of Violence' and 'The Seventh Seal- although i heard The Seventh Seal was a bit under-rated but over-rated at the same time...if that made snse.....like not many people saw it but the people who did see it over-reacted about how great it was....it think i'll be the final judge of that!)

I didnt jump once in the movie, but that may have been cause I was laughing at my gf for hiding during all of the creepy parts lol. I kept trying to trick her to look. But yeah pretty good movie, explained some things I always wondered like why she makes that wierd noise and why she crawls around on the stairs sometimes. Go see it youll see what I mean.

I saw The Departed last saturday, and it was even better than I excpected.
I saw The Covenant this afternoon, and it was even worse than I expected.
From frame one, it emanated an extraordinary amount of sheer awful.
It wasn't even laughably bad, it was pitiful.
My favorite notice of terribility was that there were way too many establishing shots of the same place.
Also, the quality of the screening I saw was like that of a bootleg copy.
But I'm glad for having seen such a terrible movie, because I'm going to see Children Of Men soon, and it's excellence will be hugely emphasized by contrast.
The camerawork and cinematography looks great.

Wednesday:
I rewatched 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Man, this amazing film just gets better each time I watch it!

Thursday:
I finally got around to watching the sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact.
Despite all the negative criticism I've heard, and my own low expectations, this movie wasn't too bad.
Of course, it will always live in the shadow of 2001, but at the same time, it feeds off of the shadow.

Friday then:
I just now finished watching Renessaince.
A French cyberpunk movie, animated similarly to A Scanner Darkly (12 more days!), only in near total high-contrast black and white, even moreso than Sin City.
It was good.
I mean, I probably wouldn't have cared about it if it weren't for the visual style.
But it was good.

Friday soon:
Being John Malkovich is coming on TV, so I'm going to rewatch it for the first time in ages.

In the future:
I finally found some subtitles for La Planete Sauvage, after over half a year of not watching it.
I'm really looking forward to it!

I really need a mind-bender movie, which is pretty much my favorite genre. Last mind-bender I seen was Breaking Dawn, which was pretty freaking messed up. Since I doubt nobody's ever heard of or seen this, the chick is in a psychology class and has to try and cure a patient named Don Wake. Through a series of events, she gets sucked into his mind's world, causing everything to distort. Now she can go by the book or help the patient by continuing in his twisted mentality and murderous past.
Ending:
She is the patient. Her name is Dawn Wake, and she cured herself, and every significant event pieces in when you see it.

Anybody have any good movies of this type? I've already seen Minority Report and the Saw movies.

I have to see this movie.

So let me get this straight Carlos. It isn't a little worrying to you that in the late nineties there was a bloke in the aussie outback who would break peoples cars while they were out having lunch or sight seeing, then come back in 5 or 6 hours pretending to help them. Then when he got them back to his camp he proceeded to drug them, slice them up, burn them, rape them, Nail them to caves with cement nails. Things this bloke did were far too gruesome to put in the movie and when they finally found his camp they found one person barely alive up to their lower lip in cement but never found him.

Not to mention the things Milat did, Ivan Milat who only got a little nod to in the movie (Navihtalim Mining Co.) Used to tell foreign backpackers that he'd make a shelter for them and would then proceed to cut up the backpackers and cook them to feed to his live stock. They found him hiding out in a cave on the Mundi Mundi, the big stretch I walked out into earlier this year.

You don't find that at all just a little scary? The fact that if you were foreign and travelling through the places they lurked, Wee Waa, Callerenabri, Broome anywhere like that you ran the risk of dying one of the most grissly deaths possible? If you don't then you're an Idiot.

Rewatching it today, I realised that this film made my year.
Or at the very least, it made the first half, the second being made by 'Children Of Men'.

Casino Royal (the original one)
It was completely different from what I expected, and barely shared a plot with this years version, and I feel it was a little too long, but I enjoyed it, especially Woody Allen's scenes.

I liked it in theaters better. Still, it was a great movie. Made me laugh on some parts, and I had to watch it about four more times before I was tired of it. Better than the first.

16 Blocks (new one)
Very good. I couldn't understand half the shit that came out of Eddie's mouth, though. The gangster/retarded/whatever accent was way too heavy for a movie. Bruce actually did look like a 50 year old fat cop, which suprised me. Should have stuck with the alternate ending, though, because I thought it was better. Need to watch the original with Clint Eastwood, though, so I can see which is better.

Some peasant gets his head chopped off > japanese ladies bath the english dude, there's lots of giggling > english dude learns more japanese > some dude commits hari kiri > jesuits in orange robes do something bad, boooo hiss! > there's a scene where the english dude is at sea in high winds > repeat

Meh... It was informative, and it's made me want to get in better shape, but it's not that great. Basically, a guy eats McDonald's for 30 days and records what happens to him. There were some pretty funny parts, but so few that you forget about them. I actually haven't seen the ending, because the DVD was scratched, so I don't know what happened to him. It's on NBC tonight, so I may watch it.

-=The Visitation=-
The movie choice was between this, and "A Walk to Remember." Boy, did I make one hell of a good choice. Not just for the fact that Mandy Moore movies are shit, but "The Visitation" is actually really good. I love this movie, and it's one of my favorite horror movies. It's got a bit of mystery, ominiscity, and creepiness. The premise is that miracles are starting to happen, in which three guys in coats are seen and reciting, "He is coming," in which they are referring to Jesus. The town is convinced, but there are a few who don't buy the second coming. Ending was unexpected, too, and it's got enough creep factor to keep your eyes open. Really good rent, and I wish I could buy it. :thumbr:

the last fifteen minutes were absolutely breathtaking. and with chiwetel and clive, it was quite the man-candy movie as well. and the direction was amazing.

pan's labyrinth
it was very good, and more shockingly violent than i had expected, and i just got done watching children of men. but i wasn't expecting how similar in theme and plot it would be to the devil's backbone. that doesn't make it bad at all, it just seems like guillermo del toro has a type of story he likes.

*edit* actually after reading up more on it, the devil's backbone is part 1 of a trilogy of films, pan's labyrinth is part 2, so that explains that.

Stupid, but crazy.

Covenant is sorta boring, but the story makes sense, has a bit of "underworld" blood in it, which is a tad bit disappointing that this movie isn't as long as the two underworld movies.

Real good movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was rockin in the movie, he really had the South African accent and wording down to a match. Solomon (Djimon Hounsou) rocked so much...the need to find his son and other various scenes were powerful...superb acting on his part...

Oh yeah..and Jeniffer Connelly...I think I blushed everytime she was on screen...oh man

Great movie...ending almost made me cry (I ain't gonna front)

This, by far, is my favorite movie ever. I'm about to watch it again. I don't really need to go into detail, seeing as how pretty much everyone else and their mother has seen it already. But...

* Big Part of Movie *
That part where the store owner shot the guy, and his daughter jumped in the way, I was about to break down. I'm serious. But then when she started talking, my dad and I laughed, because we figured they were blanks from the beginning.

The Secret of Nimh with my 7 year old daughter. Now that is some classic animation at it's damn best. Better than any Disney IMO.

I watched Children of Men last night. Great movie, visually breathtaking. I loved how the integration of futuristic technology wasn't so over the top...its actually probably how technological integration will look like at that point in time.

The ending

did leave me cold though. Wanted to see some resolution but I agree that it left you with hope...I guess. I called it a copout at first but the ending would have felt weird if they actually showed you more. Its like a catch 22.

Borat: Cultural Learning Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Country Of Kazakhstan (i didnt look it up but i think that's right)

The set up was more clever than I expected how there is a story that leads to an interview but the interviews could have been longer and also the whole thing breaks down half way through and turns to shit.

Wasn't crap, and it wasn't "HAHAHA OH BORAT!" kind of funny either.

5/10.

I saw Freedom Writers last night, and it was pretty damn good. I wasn't expecting it to be that good of a movie, everyone should go see it.

Lady in the Water. I got into a dispute with my girlfriend over this movie. She claimed there wasn't a twist in the movie, but by default, any movie M. Night Shyamalan has involvement in has a twist. But yeah, although the story wasn't really his own, I liked this movie over a few of his other ones.

I plan on buying Snakes on a Plane soon. That movie farkin' owns.

I love Supernatural. I am the biggest fan in my town, and I'm probably the biggest fan in my school. But when I heard that the director of Supernatural made this movie, I almost shot myself. It's the most stupid movie ever. Period. A girl is abandoned at a rest stop by her boyfriend, to find that some lunatic kidnapped him, and he's coming after her, too. Premise is alright, but the stuff that happens in the story is pretty lame. And you don't know who the killer is! No hint whatsoever!!! BLOWS! :duh:

If you want to know the ending and some other stuff (since I hope none of you will ever have do disgrace your eyeballs with this movie)...
One part, Nicole (the main girl) is in the bathroom, and she finds another girl who has been tortured by the killer. She's really banged up, and she is naked. At one point, she vomits a mess of blood, which looks totally fake. So Nicole goes to get clothes, and when she comes back, the naked girl's gone.

Then a cop that gets run over asks Nicole to shoot him. So after a long time, she finally does. He tells her not to miss, so she puts it in his mouth. Then she fires and blows out part of his brains. He opens his eyes about five seconds later and says, "YOU MISSED!" *That was the best part of the movie* After a second shot, she's climbing out of the top of the building, looks down where he was, and the guy is gone. Again. No explanation. I could understand the girl disappearing (spirit), but the cop part was just out of nowhere and retarded.

Official Ending! Nicole blows up his truck. But when she looks inside, there's nobody there. So she turns around and is beaten on the head by the killer. Then the beginning is repeated by another girl kinda. But this time, Nicole is calling out for help, and the new girl goes and gets a cop outside to look, but nobody's there. Then Nicole shows up with blood running from her mouth.

Watched "The life and death of Peter Sellers"

Peter Sellers fan service. Killed by cocaine and Brit Ekland's woohoo apparently. Jeffery Rush very good in the title role.
