the bad news is that the next demo may take a while (4 months?). but the good news is that there is a very good chance that by then we will get a playble- and by we I mean everyone with broadband and a PS3. ;)

You know what would be really sweet? If Konami can manage to get out a ZOE3 out sometime in 6, 7 or 8 months, and include a MGS4 demo! That would make my year hahaha.

Hmm...Theres something weird I noticed, The PMC's Seem to be controlled(or something along those lines) By a suspicious helicopter hovering in the air, Whenever you see a PMC you see a helicopter directly above it, Check out the first trailer and the other ones ofcourse....Maybe im jumping the gun abit? Lol but Kojima does come up with some strange and cool ideas though so who knows.

New interview with Kojima OPM UK from MGS:TUS (http://www.metalgearsolid.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14454)

OPM
We noticed in the new MGS4 trailer that Snake seems to be shooting soldiers from both sides of the conflict. With graphics getting more realistic do you feel that the moral aspect of gaming is going to become more important?

Kojima
Well, this time Snake has his own rivals and destiny so he's in a battlefield but sometimes the people there don't have anything to do with him. So yes, there's a moral aspect to what Snake should or could do to others that are not really involved in his actions. It's up to the player, and thats a deliberate theme this time.

----

OPM
Does this freedom to make moral choices reflect how people approach Metal Gear games in different ways - with some people blasting through and some using stealth more - or is it just a reflection of the morally murky way wars are being fought now?

Kojima
There are three aspects to this. Firstly, theres the real world changing as it is now with the Americans going everywhere and creating war. Secondly, theres MGS4's theme and plot, which has something to do with this. And the third aspect is that while MGS has always been a sneaking mission, FPS shooting is a trend and i really wanted to give players that freedom this time. I also want players to discover their emotions about how war changes life and people. You may decide to stick with nation 'A', or 'B' in the game's war, or you could destroy both. You could also choose not to ally with either country. There are not political issues involved for Snake. You don't have to kill the enemy, but you might decide to. I want people to understant that kind of feeling - killing someone you had no intention to kill. These days, with any FPS you're either on side 'A' or side 'B' and you're killing, killing, killing, but my games shouldn't be like that, and thats why i have this big theme. Of course, this is still a game and i don't people to be sick every time they shoot an enemy.

----

OPM
The original tagline for MGS4 was 'No place to hide', and yet the more wee see OctoCam it seems that, now, potentially everywhere is a place to hide. To what extent will gamers be able to come up with creative places to stow away?

Kojima
In the MGS series there has always been some obstacle or other that you could hide behind and not show your body so you wouldn't get spotted. This time it's not like you hide somewhere - its more that you're in sight but out of sight in the battlefield. You're out of attention, so to say.

----

OPM
Can you expand on that?

Kojima
To use a funny analogy - in the past, the MGS series was like a bank robber trying to rob a bank at night; so there are guards, cameras etc. And when you get spotted you're instantly known as the robber. But in this game, you're going into the bank at midday. You might just be a customer going in to make a deposit, but you still have to sneak in to accomplish your mission. So you're trying to deceive. You're on camera, so if you do weird things you'll be spotted as the robber, but if you don't you won't. Its more about deceiving the eye. I can't really reveal the top secrets but we [the development team] did our training camp in the mountains as we always do, and this time we had that kind of training: deceiving the eye, or crawling unseen while you're in view. Thats what we did for MGS4.

----

OPM
In the first MGS4 trailer we saw an ageing Snake inject himself with something. At the end of the trailer we see what looks like a younger Solid Snake: is that him having reversed the effects of the serum or not?

Kojima
I put that in there because i wanted you to think about it, but its not something you will actually know until you play the game

----

OPM
Can you tell us how the new bipedal cyborg Metal Gears will impact on the gameplay? They appear to operate in packs...

Kojima
Its not necessarily about Snake vs these Metal Gears - the GEKKOs (Japanese for 'Moonlight'). Sometimes GEKKOs will spot you as you're the enemy, but sometimes you're not necessarily the enemy to them. This means that is might be nation 'A' vs GEKKO and Snake can walk right past the. There will be some situations like that, and vice versa.

----

OPM
We know the Middle East features in MGS4 and you've said you want this game to be like James Bond with Snake travelling the world. Is there any chance he'll visit the UK?

Kojima
Unfortunatly not. I want to go there, actually. But not Snake - not this time. Officially, the new locations are somewhere in the Middle East, somewhere in South America and somewhere in Eastern Europe.

----

OPM
What prompted you to start motion-capturing real actors in MGS4? I understand you had you had a Japanese actress, (Yumi Kikuchi) on the stage, and demonstrated how she was scanned for use in the game...

Kojima
I cannot really say specifically as it would spoil MGS4s plot. However, i can just hint that one group in the game will use an actual skeleton and skin texture, and thats why we needed it. Of course, for Snake and Otacon we don't have real models. They are created, so there is a risk it won't work if you put the real actress or actors next to these people. However, we're thinking about how to make it a natural fit.

----

OPM
Is it important to the plot that this group looks different?

Kojima
Yes. Exactly.

----

OPM
Was Ms Kikuchi happy with her likeness?

Kojima
I hope she was happy. It's still a work in progress. What you saw was that we created a pure core of Ms Kikuchi the actress. She's not going to look like that in the game. She's going to be quite different. so don't think we're going to use it for promotional use like Capcom did with Takeshi Kaneshiro in Onimusha. We're not going to use her likeness like that.

----

OPM
What are your feelings about the PS3s new Sixaxis controller and the loss of the Dual Shock 2's rumble?

Kojima
We can't say how we'll use the motion-sensing functionality specifically but we'll use it for sure. The controls in MGS3 got a little complex, so you'll have a little more direct control in MGS4. That said, i miss the rumble, and even now i hope it will come back.

----

OPM
If we sneaked into the Kojima Productions offices now, what would we see? Would we be able to play anything?

Kojima
We're finally out of the research stage. We're now at a point where the system if finalised and we're saying 'lets go with this'. So the gauge and icons are there, but they're still temporary, meaning the design is still not fixed. Of course you can play, but we're still experimenting. If you go to one section you might play with the AI and enemies, while in other areas you can play around with the cameras or the background.

----

OPM
Last time we talked there was some discussion that you weren't sure how best to incorporate Snake's little robot friend [The Metal Gear Mk.II], but now we see he's back in the game. We saw him electrocuting someone in the plums in the trailer. How will he work in the Guns Of The Patriots?

Kojima
Thats because you mentioned it. I remember that interview. You don't just electrocute people in the nuts, though. Thats in the trailer as a kind of a message that you can do something interesting with the Mk.II.

----

OPM
So, are you saying that you can control the Mk.II in MGS4 yourself?

Kojima
Yes

----

OPM
People in the UK always find people hit in the nuts very funny, so we're sure it will go down well.

Kojima
In France its always the shit part - the doo doo [laughs].

----

OPM
Picture the scene: MGS4 has shipped to rave reviews and its selling strongly. Its your first day back at work. Whats the first item on your 'to do' list?

Kojima
If MGS4 sells, then its on to the next concept, which i have really wanted to do for a very long time. If it fails, I will probably start writing a letter to announce that i am leaving this company. Thats what i kind of want to do, actually. [Kojima pauses] Thats a joke...

That what I like about Kojima-san, he says what he likes and makes it clear. Unlike the attitude I got from Phil Harrison who basically went on about rumble being old past technology and looking forward and forgetting it was important.

We shouldnt forget our roots, and rumble is important to some people, myself and Kojima-san as well it seems. Im glad to hear his take on the controller.

@Shadowvoa - I agree, Kojima is a true class act in the video game arena.

About that Phil Harrison thing you said though, Phil Harrison's relationship to Sony is much different from Kojima's, and their jobs are much different. I would expect nothing else from PH, but I still think he is one of the very best PR guys in gaming.

For the record, I too wish rumble stayed. I will miss the bumps in the road in GT5 very, very much.

Btw, who is there to take the reins when Kojima is gone? Seriously, this is very important to me, and I'm sure it is to a lot of you. I thought I'd better ask it to see if anything new has come up on this front, after Seph just posted about how that text might have hinted to the franchise continuing post-Kojima.

MGS news is always welcomed, although we only get snippets of new info.
for me, it was the confirmation of the MKII being playable. we also learned the specific locals of the game as well.

to tell you the truth, MGS4 is sold for me already. I don't care if I never hear from it again till it launches. the same goes for FF13, Motor Storm, Lair, etc.
what I do want to know that may be relatively new is how is the online gameplay going? what kind of new modes or features can we expect? what is the communication like? etc.

ShadowVoa, I find it strange that you would compare the comments of a member of an independent dev/publisher to those of one of the main figures of a console maker. that said, Harrison never neglected rumble, IIRC. Sony usually gives the impression that they 'had' to take it out. like it was the price of a bigger feature; motion-sensing.
but that is a different topic.
If MGS4 sells, then its on to the next concept, which i have really wanted to do for a very long time. If it fails, I will probably start writing a letter to announce that i am leaving this company. Thats what i kind of want to do, actually. [Kojima pauses] Thats a joke...
I think some of us didn't quite understand that. keep in mind this is translated between Jap. and Eng. since Kojima doesn't conduct interviews in English.
what I gathered from his comment that he would quite if the game isn't a success is that he gives an idea of how he is personally committed to the project. that if it fails, he would consider he, himself, failed.
also keep in mind that quitting your job after a major project fails isn't strange in Japan- or many parts of the world for that matter.

now, what I, and the rest of the world, really want to know is when can we wake up in the morning, log-in to our PS3 accounts and see a downloadable playble demo of MGS4?!

Man MGS has never failed to entertain...so i can't even imagine what this one will be like. With the power of the PS3 and this supposedly being Kojimas last MGS game. He'll probably pull out all the stops and even more classic characters (thats a given).

And i'm excited to see what the different locales are..i was expecting it to take place all in the middle eastern locale. But three different locales and changes of scenary? *drools* I can't wait lol.

^Same man, I really want to check out this South America, that should look amazing, with all the forestry and greenery (assuming they do have lots of it, and hopefully they will, SA is covered with lush forests). Looking at what they pulled on the PS2, a PS3 pumping out an environment like that should look insane!

Answer the questions below if you want the chance to win the grand prize

[1] Ever since the creation of Kojima Productions and addition of the new International Manager (Ryan Payton) us NTSC fans have been getting some great pre-order extras. With MGS3:S we got a great MG series recap DVD under the name of Metal Gear Saga Volume 1. With MGA2 we got a one of a kind art cell and now with MPO we are getting a nice PSP case. With all this in mind, what do you think will be a good pre-order extra for Metal Gear Solid 4?

[2] One of the biggest topics under contestant discussion in MGS fan communities is the possibility of seeing remakes for Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. In your opinion do you think a remake of these games should be made or not? If yes what console system would you like these games made for?

[3] What do you think is the biggest flaw in Metal Gear Solid series that is yet to be addressed or fixed? How would you fix this problem?

[4] After working on Metal Gear series for over 20 years Hideo Kojima has repeatedly said he wants to move on and work on different games. When he does finally "move on" what type of game do you want him to work on and what console system do you want to see it on?

Note: All questions are created by MGS: The Unofficial Site. This is not official survey, arranged by Kojima Productions. TUS is not handling the distribution of the prizes. Kojima Productions will be directly sending the winners their prize.

don't know if this has been posted from www.magicbox.com :

- Hideo Kojima revealed some new tidbits on Metal Gear Solid 4:

* Player can choose to strike on either sides (nation A or B), or even destroy both.
* Player can choose to ally with either side or not at all
* Player has the freedom to shoot at any soldiers / enemies in the field, like in a first person shooter
* In MGS4 you're either in sight or out of sight in the battlefield.
* In the past you can hide yourself or enemy bodies, but now Snake doesn't need to hide -- with the OctoCam (camouflage) system, Snake deceives the enemies and make himself hardly visible by enemies in battles
* In one of the new trailer, Snake appears much younger later in the story after injected a potion, Kojima inserted this scene to make players think about it.
* The Gekkos (cyborg Metal Gears) will sometimes spot you as enemy, sometimes you can walk past them, depending which nation you are parted with at the moment.
* The game will support Sixaxis' movement sensitivity function
* The control will be less complex than MGS3, you'll have more direct control in MGS4
* Snake can control the Metal Gear MKII Robot which accompanies him
* The story will take place in middle east, South America and Eastern Europe

The Gekkos (cyborg Metal Gears) will sometimes spot you as enemy, sometimes you can walk past them, depending which nation you are parted with at the moment.

maybe there are portions of the game that you will not be able to pass through until you have proved your allegiance to one side or another.
* The game will support Sixaxis' movement sensitivity function

can't wait for this one...

* Snake can control the Metal Gear MKII Robot which accompanies him

VG, I would assume once the engine is solid they would start using finalized textures. In the early stages of developement I think Kojima used some PS2 assets to create part of the trailers. I'm sure all of the "placeholder textures" will be swapped and the engine will be optimized. (Also, they will shoot for 1080P, but if they can't get the engine optimized enough it will be dumped...)

CPI can provide a more detailed explanation or keep me honest... ;)

Holy crap, I need a poster like that sooooo badly.t

But anyways, off topic.

I, finally, decided to play through MGS1. This is after 5 years from my first taste of MGS with MGS2, I finally did myself a good favour and actually played the first one.

All I want to say is, MGS is the pinnacle of storytelling and presentation through the medium of videogames that you could've gotten in the PS2/N64 era, and possibly through until even now. I might even go as far to say it is above MGS2 and 3 by keeping you off your feet the whole time, and you know what, I think I do believe that.

The gameplay is 5 star, but with a few frustrating points, but there are other awesome playing games from that gen, but nothing, nothing from that gen even comes close to the artistic and movie-like presentation of Metal Gear Solid.

I am blown away, honestly, that was the most ridiculously amazing 9 hours of gaming I have ever had, bar none (I watched the cutscenes, and codecs, and did a reasonable amount of backtracking for rations and ammo).

How, on the PS1, everything in that game is so seamlessly integrated into one product, how every detail keeps you wanting to know more, how every method and resulting advance in the story is more suprising, intelligent, masterfully executed, I will never ever know.

Everything is amazing. The dialogue, the voice acting, the story, the action, the characters. Seriously, other than the fact that you are playing a game, this thing unfolds like a freaking action movie!

MGS is truly the best action game I think ever. It honestly feels like a frigging action movie with the CODEC voice overs, location specific camera angles, and awesome cutscenes and story. The story unfolded over 2 animated faces half the time, but it was more captivating each time than almost any other scene I can think of in gaming ever!! It's so intense when it wants to be, cool when it tries to be, and funny when it needs to be! WTF how did I miss this!!!!

The fact that it is short I honestly think aids the game. The actual time that the game takes place is under half a day, and the gameplay with watching the stuff is that same time. The story unfolds quickly and in good pace, with so many key and memorable moments, just wow, like what the hell, it's just amazing.

Honestly, MGS1 = Holy fuck... I can't explain how good this game is! My words are not doing it, I don't feel they are! lol!! Everyone who hasn't played this game, please please please please please please play it.

P.S.

Peculiarly, MGS makes me want to play MGS2 more than MGS3... I probably should add I think of the Tanker Chapter from MGS2 more than anything else after playing MGS though. It might have to do with the fact that you are using Solid Snake and that the Tanker environment shares so many aesthetic qualities with the whole Shadow Moses architecture, blue tinting, other cold colouring, and other stuff I guess.

Seriously, other than the fact that you are playing a game, this thing unfolds like a freaking action movie!Lol your just now experiencing the magic that is MGS1 huh. I loveeed that game. Still my favorite game of all time. MGS3 was great but took a lil to long to pick up in terms of action. So when you replay it gets a tedious starting from the begining. MGS 2 was good and had a lot of classic moments but neither could beat MGS1. In my book the ratings would be as follows:

MGS1=10
MGS2=9
MGS3=9.5

Now where will MGS4 rank? Hmm lol.

I don't know how these guys do it...but with ever game, it's just keeps getting better and better. Nothing beats the original though...

Sorry guys (for not re-reading the thread) but when is this game due out?

I 'have' to know to see if my "Wait until a MGS4 + PS3 bundle" plan will work.

Let's stop the crazy comparisons to other games (even Zelda). MGS is just MGS, there is nothing to compare it to.
I literally got pissed off (perhaps for the first time on the internet) when people were comparing MGS to Gears Of War!!!!

The only game you can compare MGS is to other MGSs. And since we are ranking them, here goes my list (predictable):
MGS1-100% magical throughout.
MGS3- Slow start and then the genius intro kicks in and a pretty enjoyable ride throughout with an AWESOME ending.
MGS2- Felt a bit dodgy by MGS standards, didn't enjoy the plot/setting that much.

Also why is everyone keep on changing my name to MasterRatt? Three people did that and they all do it MasterRatt...Is there a character that I haven't heard of with the name 'MasterRatt'? lol

Thanks for the MGS: PO release date, what is the speculated release for MGS4?

I love 3 the best, but the first one is just barely 2nd. MGS2 is third overall. But it's hard for me, because all the things people hate mgs2 for, or count as flaws, are things the game does on purpose, that people just don't get.
I could go on about it here and the post modern approach to story telling but it's all blah blah blah.

I know it is super old school, but would it not be kool if Kojima re-made the first original MetalGear from the NES days for PS3? It is a crazy idea, but that is Snakes first mission. But i never played it because something was wrong with it. It was so long ago i'm not even sure what was wrong with. I had to be like 5 or somethin lol.

But one of my favorite parts of the origanal MGS was when Merril was in disguise had the riffle in snakes face...and told her she was a rookie lol. Classic. Thats one of those "snakes a bad ass moments".

The MGS series most likely will continue in a similar fashion as MPO. Ryan Payton said on the last 1up yours podcast that Kojima has a time line for almost every year with at least a sentence of description so I believe we have a few more big boss games to go before it finally ends.

Does anyone else think they need to make Meryl and Naomi 'hotter?'

They don't look nearly as attractive as their MGS1 CODEC cartoon counterparts, or at least, I don't think so. I thought Naomi in the MGS4 trailer was actually pretty ugly (her Japanese voiceover is very unattractive btw) and it's a shame because her CODEC face in MGS1 was very good looking and she had a very nice feminine voice with almost what I would think is a slighy English/European undertone.

Meryl's look is actually pretty good though, she looks feminine with the face and masculin with the movements and voice, so actually, her appearance is not bad.

Otacon is EXACTLY how I think he should look like though, I think they have done his face perfectly. Snake's is expectedly very well done too. I think Colonel's needs a bit more 'American' in his face, I don't think it's blocky enough, but maybe because he is getting older that his face is becoming rounder.

And Ocelot, well he's just badass, and his looks are only a 5th of the reason he is badass, but he looks good too lol.

P.S. How awesome is the "In the Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth' book in the MGS2 extras?

Also the one with the insane editor who thinks he made contact with aliens, his book is hilarious to read.

Funny parts I can think of just off my head right now are the part where he abandons his friend after finding him tied up and his explanation given for it, and also the part where he yells over the phone and complains the other person is being rude.

The ending of that book, the editor's note, was pretty suspenseful too btw.

The 300 'page' Romanenko book is intense to read though, good stuff.

P.P.S. I just used google to find yahoo. I thought it was funny and wanted to add that hahaha!

I think Meryl's looks really good. Her face looks a lot like I'd imagine a slightly-aged Meryl to look, not to mention her poses & stuff look very Meryl-ish too. Naomi looks pretty different, but I think she looks just fine. She might end up looking a little different though, just like Ocelot looked different in MGS2 than he did in the E3 2000 trailer.

^Ya I think I just preferred the look in MGS1. I don't particularly like the character model appearance of Naomi in MGS4. Her face is not 'pretty' like it was in MGS1 to me.

Trust me though, I am hardly let down. I was just wondering what others thought about it too you know? lol. When I actually get the game, I will totally forget about anything I thought about how the characters look.

I never saw the MGS2 2000 trailer. I only started on MGS because of the demo that came along when I rented ZOE lol!

@Julps - hahaha, it really did eh? I actually played through Substance 5 times again.... I had to get all the dog tags on all the modes. I have the PC ver, and I couldn't find a save file with all the dog tags on the internet (I prev. already did this in MGS2 original for the PS2) so I had to do it again... Now I can beat Tanker in 13 min on European Extreme lol!

It was a combination of MGS1 and 2 that made me do this lol. Actually, ya, MGS1 sparked it again, and MGS2: Substance has been keeping me there haha. Substance PC looks very sexy btw. Still not as good looking as MGS3 though even with such high rez and stuff, because MGS3 had all the awesome effects and beautiful character models and environments. If they made an MGS3 for PC (which is not happening lol) that would look soooo good.

Great thing about PC ver = no lag on my comp. That part in Tanker with the 100+ marines in each compartment = no lag, even when you kick them around and they all knock into each other, good times good times lol!

Her face is not 'pretty' like it was in MGS1 to me.I actually think her face is too pretty. She's very much like an anime character with such a flawless face. All characters seem to have a fairly detailed face but her. My favourite one so far is Liquid Ocelot's because of... everything.

Meryl looks nice, even though she has the most unnatural hair  I can see why though.

I think all of the faces are spot on expect for the colonel's.
I don't know what exactly do you mean by 'more feminine', but if that means having them more physically attractive and eluding suggestive thoughts ( in other words 'sexy', though I hate using that word for many reasons. heck, this might be the first time I typed it. run a word check.) I whole heartedly disagree. I disagree since the context of what MGS is about- at least for me- goes against anything like that. having female characters looking like whores makes me totally lose any respect or serious regard to the whole game/movie world. that is why I hated how Eva had a zipper open in MGS3 from her neck till her knees. I never even thought of here as a main character. on a totally opposite side, look at how I regard The Boss. I loved Fortune for what she represented and what she did, but having here ware a swimming outfit throughout the whole game hurt her image for me really.

there is room for for that kind of direction in other games or in other context. having a game dealing with world domination, dark future, mass-destruction, coiled plots and more twists than a drunk cowboy with a lasso featuring such themes doesn't actually help the whole atmosphere being more convincing or effective- at least not for me.

sorry if I missed your whole point. I did feel like mentioning this anyway. :)

Meryl's hair is awesome, it's like a jungle lol, all over the place haha.

Ah man, I don't want to know more about MGS PO. I'm never gonna have a PSP. I just want to know the storyline lol, because anything else will make me want to get a PSP so badly and I can't get one lol....

@Z

Lol! I don't mean I want the female characters to be overly good looking. I like Meryl's look actually, but I don't find it attractive. I just think Naomi should be more attractive because I felt that was a part of her character. Her voice in MGS1 sounded of a woman who should be very good looking with the slight english undertone, at least that's what I thought.

I just preferred her overall appearance and voice in MGS1 over the appearance in the MGS4 trailer and the Japanese voiceover (although that's an odd comparison to make, I want to hear what she sounds like in English for MGS4). I dunno, I just thought of Naomi as a character should be good looking partly because that's how she was in MGS1 and I just feel it's a significant part of her character. Aesthetics are very important in movies and stuff, that the character's appearance should match their voice and personality, so that's why I thought that.

Like Otacon is pretty unnattractive, but his personality pretty much perfectly matches his character and voice. Same with Liquid Ocelot, and now I think Meryl's appearance and voice fit her character perfectly as well.

I am not at all for having a scantily clad ladies for other characters or Victoria's Secret models for female main characters, just specifically for Naomi, I thought her appearance and voice in MGS1 perfectly fit her personality. I'm glad you mentioned it, I don't want you to think that is what I thought lol!

I honestly would put english undertone (kind of like someone who grads from a high class university, say like Oxford), female, geneticist, and good looking all together.

To me, that screams of a person that is truly on a mission for themselves. Talk about being good looking, but going against the flow of women being sex toys (see: Beverly Hills), becoming an intellectual and it goes well with her character of being on the mission and having such a strong ulterior motive to working as a geneticist for Foxhound, to solely use her intelligence to kill Snake with Foxdie.

I don't even know if this is why I think she should look like she did in MGS1 though. Maybe it might be because beauty and vengeance go together, and that's the reason she looked like she did in MGS1. Something makes me think though that her MGS1 image is how she should look, and the reason might be totally different from what I explained.

I agree with you Z, but Eva wasn't like that all the time. Actually, her role consisted in being sexy most of the time she appeared in the game, so that's fine by me.

Aeris and Tifa > all. But that might be an affectionate thing for me, because I simply am in love with the story of FF VII. I love delving into that game's storyline, it's just so awesome.

The Boss is pretty frigging cool too. Sacrificed everything for her country. I wonder how her philosophy will affect how Big Boss thinks soon after MGS3... hmmmmmm... lol!

I was also fine with EVA being a half stripper lol! There was a reason behind it, and it honestly made me not expect her to be what she revealed at the end.

Fortune, I hated Fortune. The main reason was her appearance. I agree Z, it was totally unecessary for her to wear a swimsuit 24/7. Her appearance made zero sense to me as well.

Eva: Snake, history will never know what she did. No one will ever learn the

By avoiding Russia to counterattack because of the nuke they thought the US had launched, she effectively saved her country, but of course that implies much more than that because she prevented the Cold War from becoming a full-blown war. She avoided WWIII. Therefore, she saved the world.

In the game, there really are clues and even hard proof that Revolver Ocelot is Boss' son. Adamska = Revolver Ocelot.

I read the interview. He did! He hints at it, really. He says, yes the boss and the sorrow had a son. he's in the game, *makes a gun twirling motion with his hands*.
Ocelot is Adamska, or better yet, the original ADAM.

Kojima was asked directly in an interview in PSM: "Is ocelot the son of The Boss?"
Kojima said: "Yes."

damn, that is why Ocelot is so cool. you can't help but to be kick ass when your mother is The freakin Boss and your father is The Sorrow and you took tips from Saladin. dang.

though he was very 'green' in MGS3, he was kick-ass in the rest of the games and was untouchable -literally- in MGS2. I am sure he'll be behind everything in 4 as well. I only wish they let him do some crazy stunts and moves and not only let him 'talk' through the whole thing.

her is more on Shalashaska from wikipedia:
Other appearances

Ocelot also appears as a boss in the Arena Mode in Metal Gear Acid 2 along with Liquid. His polygonal model is extracted directly from the original Metal Gear Solid.

In the Metal Gear Solid Drama CD series, a character with connections to Revolver Ocelot named Sergei Ivanovich plays a prominent role in the second story arc. He is introduced as a war buddy of Ocelot during his service with the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. Like Ocelot, Ivanovich is a sadist and spends most of the time torturing Campbell during his captivity. Due to his connections with Ocelot, he is aware of the FOXDIE virus and wishes to produce similar biological weapons.

Real name : Adamska

Ya VG is right, I was like "General Ivan, arghhh???" And then I was like... oooooooooooo when Ocelot answers. He's the only Russian guy there lol.

Ocelot is too cool for about everyone. He manipulates everyone AND he has like ten names AND he is the son of The Boss. You can't top that unless you're Big Boss or Solid Snake.

Raven : Well, Boss. I hope you are happy. He got the card.

Man on Radio: ...We'll play with him a little longer...

Raven : You would be wise not to underestimate him.

Man on Radio: What did you think of him?

Raven : He is just as you said. In battle he is as if possessed by a demon. Much like you. I would expect no less.

(Now Ocelot comes on the radio.)

Ocelot : You see? I told you so. But I will kill him.

Raven : So, General Ivan, I hear he took your hand as well as your dignity.

Ocelot : Watch your tongue, Shaman!

Raven : In the language of the Sioux people, "sioux" means "snake". It is known as an animal to be feared.

Ocelot : Well, Snake is mine now... When I meet him next, I'll take special care of him.

Man on Radio: Not yet... Don't kill him yet...

Raven : He and I will meet again in battle.

Ocelot : Same prediction as always?

Raven : Yes. The raven on my head... it thirsts for his blood.

P.S. Congrats for the 7000th post :-p

I'm guessing Man on Radio is Liquid lol. I guess they did that for story reasons for people reading the script.

Alright something was bothering me for a while. I'm trying to figure out Young Snake. I think it has A LOT to do with the statue he touches. What statue is that?

Is it a variation of David by Michelangelo (which I looked up, David by Michelangelo is apparently the young David, who is inbetween the time of deciding to fight Goliath, and successively fighting him, which would parallel to Snake being in Shadow Moses before fighting Metal Gear Rex and Liquid, the superior clone).

So did he turn young because that is what the statue represented? Or is that statue a figure of someone else or just no one in particular? Did it even have to do with the fact he touched the statue, or did he make contact with something else while the camera was focused downwards? Maybe it had a lot more to do with the ravens than anything else though.

^It's called Ocelot is pure ownage and can manipulate everyone because he's so badass.

Lol! But really... uhhh... nevermind that's the only way I can explain it.

Check this out btw! I never did it myself (the tuxedo one), just saw it hahaha. EDIT: Started to pull some out lol.

-The Tuxedo (call The Boss while wearing the Tuxedo)

Boss: Snake...

Snake: What's up, Boss?

Boss: Don't you "what's up" me. Just what do you think you're doing?

Snake: What do you mean?

Boss: "What do I mean"... What is that camouflage you're wearing?

Snake: Oh, this. What do you think?

Boss: Of all the...

Snake: Looks pretty good on me, doesn't it?

Boss: Are you out of your mind? You can't wear that in battle! It's like
saying to the enemy "Hey! Here I am! Shoot me!"

Snake: Well, I'll admit, it is a little on the flashy side...

Boss: Then why don't you...

Snake: But it does look good on me, doesn't it?

Boss: ...

Snake: You don't think so?

Boss: Listen, wise ass! Camouflage isn't going to do jack if it doesn't help
you blend in with your surroundings!

Snake: Well, I think it looks good on me...

Boss: Fine! Wear whatever you want!

Snake: ...I thought you'd like it...

-Naked Snake (call Sigint without a shirt on)

Sigint: Snake, what's up? Why are you naked? I know there's a "NAKED" option
under "UNIFORM" that lets you take off the upper part of your uniform. But
without a shirt on, your camouflage sucks, and your stamina goes down faster.
You don't get any advantages whatsoever.

Snake: Sure there are.

Sigint: Like what?

Snake: It feels good.

Sigint: ...Man, you do whatever you want.

Snake: I will, thanks. Just one question, though.

Sigint: What?

Snake: Is there a way to take off my pants?

Sigint: Say WHAT!?

Snake: My pants, can I...

Sigint: Ah, hell no! This FOX unit is a nut fest!

-Afternoon Tea (call Sigint while wearing Chocolate Chip camo)

Sigint: Ah, you're wearing the chocolate chip pattern.

Snake: Chocolate chip? You mean this camouflage?

Sigint: Yeah.

Snake: I've never heard of a camo pattern called that before...

Sigint: Yeah, I know. I just thought it up right now. The chocolate chip
pattern is probably designed to provide cover in a desert environment. It
should work best against a sandy or rocky background.

Snake: Makes sense. But why'd you call it chocolate chip?

Sigint: 'Cause that's what it reminds me of.

Snake: What?

Sigint: Those little round cookies the major is always snackin' on.

Zero: They're not cookies. They're scones.

Sigint: Major!

Zero: And it's not a snack. It's afternoon tea.

Sigint: Snack, tea, same thing.

Zero: No, it's not! Look here, afternoon tea is a fine old English tradition.

Sigint: Uh oh. Here we go again. Talk to you later, Snake.

Zero: The origins of afternoon tea go back to the Victorian Era. Anna Maria,
the seventh Duchess of Bedford, was...

-The Patriot (call Sigint with the Patriot equipped)

Sigint: Using the Patriot, eh?

Snake: Yeah. It's the same one The Boss was using.

Sigint: Where'd you get it?

Snake: Hmm?

Sigint: I said, where'd you get it?

Snake: Sigint, don't get worked up over the details.

Sigint: ??? Whatever. Anyway, the Patriot is a one-of-a-kind sidearm made
especially for The Boss. It's basically an XM16E1 with the barrel cut short
and the stock taken off. The idea was to create a large pistol that combined
the feel and quick handling of a handgun with the force of a rifle. But with a
barrel that short, the recoil is unbelievable. It's tough to aim, but it more
than makes up for it in firepower. From the looks of it, it's fitted with a
100-round drum magazine... and it never runs out of ammo?

Snake: Never.

Sigint: Why's that?

Snake: Because the internal feed mechanism is shaped like an infinity symbol.

Sigint: Ah, I get it. Yep, that'll give you unlimited ammo.

-Snake is Cute (call Sigint while wearing GA-KO camouflage)

Sigint: Snake, what is that stuff you're wearing?

Snake: I dunno. It's called GA-KO camo, whatever that means...

Para-Medic: What!?

Sigint: Para-Medic...?

Para-Medic: You've never heard of GA-KO?

Snake: Nope.

Sigint: Never.

Para-Medic: You must live in a cave or something.

Sigint: Well, excuse me. By the way, Snake, that outfit is really killing your
Camo Index. Unless you want the enemy to see you, I'd suggest you change your
clothes as...

Para-Medic: Why?

Sigint: Why? Because his Camo Index is...

Para-Medic: Camo Index, shmamo Index.

Sigint: Hold on now...

Para-Medic: He's wearing the GA-KO suit.

Sigint: Why?

Para-Medic: Because it looks cute.

Sigint: Snake, talk some sense into her!

Snake: What's wrong with being cute?

Sigint: ...am I only normal person around here...?

-Inner Peace (call Sigint with a cardboard box equipped)

Sigint: Uh, Snake... What are you doing?

Snake: I'm in a box.

Sigint: A cardboard box? Why are you...?

Snake: I dunno. I was just looking at it and I suddenly got this urge to get
inside. No, not just an urge - more than that. It was my destiny to be here;
in the box.

Sigint: Destiny...?

Snake: Yeah. And then when I put it on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner
peace. I can't put it into words. I feel... safe. Like this is where I was
meant to be. Like I'd found the key to true happiness.

Sigint: ...

Snake: Does any of that make sense?

Sigint: Not even a little.

Snake: You should come inside the box... Then you'll know what I mean.

Sigint: Man, I don't wanna know what you mean! Between you and Para-Medic, is
everyone but me that is hooked up with the Major strange!?

Snake: ...

Sigint: Yeah, well, anyway, I suppose even that dumbass box might make a
decent disguise if you wear it inside a building.

-Snake the Zombie (call Sigint with Zombie face paint equipped)

Sigint: Snake, your face paint, it's...

Snake: I know. It's called zombie.

Sigint: Zombie? What does that mean?

Snake: Beats me.

Para-Medic: Are you serious?

Sigint: Hello, Para-Medic...

Para-Medic: You mean you've never heard of zombies?

Snake: Nope.

Sigint: Never.

Para-Medic: You guys don't know anything. A zombie is a dead body that's been
cursed and brought back to life by a master of black magic. Supposedly, they
revive the dead and use them as slaves. It's also seen as a kind of punishment
- people who commit terrible crimes can be forced to labor even after they're
dead.

Snake: Interesting... How do you know all this stuff?

Para-Medic: I saw it in movies. Like "White Zombie." Never seen it?

Snake: Nope.

Sigint: Can't say I have.

Para-Medic: How about "Plan 9 from Outer Space?"

Snake: No.

Sigint: Missed it.

Para-Medic: You can't just focus on the things you like all the time. You have
to expand your horizons and try new things. You guys need to get out more.

Snake: ...

Sigint: Yeah, well, anyway, that face paint doesn't look all that useful. Go
ahead and wear it if you want but I think you should change to...

Para-Medic: You don't need to change anything.

Sigint: Why not?

Para-Medic: It makes him look awesome.

Sigint: ...

Para-Medic: Doesn't it?

Sigint: Look, arguing isn't going to get us anywhere. Snake, you do whatever
you want.

Para-Medic: It does make you look cool!

Zero: 007 is the biggest thing to come out of England since the Mayflower. I
wouldn't be surprised if they made 20 more of those movies.

-Snake's a Bully (attack Eva and call Sigint)

Sigint: What the hell, man...!!

Para-Medic: I can't believe you!!

Zero: Of all the - I can see now I chose the wrong man for this mission...!

-The Mask (equip the mask and call Tom, during Virtuous Mission)

Tom: Snake, are you wearing that mask again?

Snake: Yeah. For some reason is feels kind of... nostalgic.

Tom: Yeah well... for some reason I don't like it.

Snake: Why not?

Tom: Something about that face just rubs me the wrong way.

Snake: It looks fine to me... but if you hate it that much, why did you give
it to me in the first place?

Tom: Well... that mask was originally created for use in another mission. An
agent was supposed to disguise himself as a Soviet officer and sneak into an
enemy installation. We had it all set to go, but certain circumstances forced
us to abort the mission. With the mission cancelled, the mask was going to be
thrown away... but the guy at the CIA's tech division who created it pitched a
fit...

Snake: Why'd he do that?

Tom: He said it was too good to throw away.

Snake: ...

Tom: According to him, that mask is a revolutionary new design that lets the
wearer blink, something that wasn't possible up until now.

Snake: I'd think you'd want to make the lips move before bothering with the
blinking.

Tom: Yeah, I thought so too, but for some reason he's obsessed with making it
blink...

Snake: Whoever he is, he sounds like a crackpot.

Tom: Mmm. Well, he does good work. But I spend three days a month just dealing
with the complaints we get about him... ah, well, never mind... Anyway, I
decided to put this mask we had in storage to good use by hiding your identity
from the gunship crew.

Snake: I get it... so this mask is based on a model somewhere.

Tom: That's right.

Snake: What do I do if I meet that guy?

Tom: That's not going to be a problem.

Snake: Why not?

Tom: The man the mask is based on is a GRU officer. You're in the KGB's sphere
of influence. Chances are you won't run into him.

Snake: If I do?

Tom: Beat the crap out of him.

-The Placebo (eat a Russian Glowcap and call Para-Medic)

Para-Medic: I see you've found some Russian glowcaps. The Russian glowcap is
kind of luminescent fungus - a mushroom that glows in the dark.

Snake: Why would a mushroom glow in the dark?

Para-Medic: It's bioluminescent, just like a firefly. It uses the so called
luciferin-luciferase reaction. To put it simply, luciferin reacts with
luciferase in the presence of magnesium two plus ions, breaking it down into
oxyluciferin and carbon dioxide. The carbonyl groups in the oxyluciferin are
initially in an electrically excited state. When they return to their base
state, they give off light. Did you get all that?

Snake: Not really.

Para-Medic: Oh.

Snake: I ate one and it recharged my batteries!

Para-Medic: Huh!?

Snake: I thought a mushroom that glows that bright was bound to charge up my
batteries if I ate it. And I was right.

Para-Medic: Y...you're serious...??

Snake: What's wrong?

Para-Medic: N...nothing... Um, Snake, can you excuse me for a second?

Snake: Sure.

Para-Medic: Did you just hear that?

Sigint: Yeah. There's no way eating a bioluminescent mushroom would cause your
batteries to recharge.

Para-Medic: What do you think it means?

Sigint: Beats me... maybe it's all in his mind.

Para-Medic: You mean like a placebo effect?

Sigint: Why not? You've seen how gullible he is.

Para-Medic: I guess there's no harm done. Should we let him keep believing it?

Sigint: Sounds good to me.

Para-Medic: OK, Snake, I'm back. Yes, the Russian glowcap is a glowing
mushroom, so it'll recharge your batteries when you eat it.

Snake: ???

-Gullible Snake (call Para-Medic with the cigar equipped)

Para-Medic: Snake!

Snake: What?

Para-Medic: Are you smoking a cigarette?

Snake: Nope.

Para-Medic: Yes you are.

Snake: It's not a cigarette, it's a cigar.

Para-Medic: Same thing.

Snake: Not at all. In fact, there's a world of difference. There's nothing
quite like the rich smell and mellow flavor of a cigar. And that thick,
luxurious smoke is almost sensual when it...

Para-Medic: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever. You know something?

Snake: Probably not, but I don't want to hear it.

Para-Medic: Well, you don't have a choice.

Snake: ...

Para-Medic: Cigarettes are bad for you.

Snake: It's not a cigarette, it's a...

Para-Medic: Quiet, you!

Snake: ...

Para-Medic: Smoking is bad for you. In a recent study, scientists found that
tobacco smoke is full of carcinogenic substances, like nitrosamines. You know
what that means? It means you're going to give yourself lung cancer if you
keep on smoking.

Snake: But that's just what some scientists think, right?

Para-Medic: Oh, give me a break.

Snake: I heard it was just a bunch of hu-hah.

Para-Medic: Do you really believe that?

Snake: Sure.

Para-Medic: God, you're gullible. You ought to read this year's report from
the Surgeon General. It proves, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that smoking
causes lung cancer. Pretty soon the whole world will know that smoking is bad
for you. Better quit now before it's too late.

Snake: But...

Para-Medic: And don't tell me cigar smoke is harmless because it doesn't go
down into your lungs. It just means the cancer shows up in a different place.

Snake: ...

Para-Medic: Got it?

Snake: Yeah, yeah...

Hahhahaha good times, good times. That's barely any of all the funny stuff too lol!

EDIT: Cool! I just realised they mention the 'Surgeon's General' in MGS2 and 3 lol. It's mentioned in MGS2 by Otacon when he sees Snake at the beginning with cigarettes going thru his inventory (when he's telling him how to use the M9).

-Sneaking Suit (call Sigint with Sneaking Suit equipped)

Sigint: Those are some funky clothes you're wearing.

Snake: Yeah. It's called a sneaking suit.

Sigint: Sneaking Suit? What's that all about?

Snake: I'm not sure, but it looks like what The Boss was wearing...

Sigint: Huh. Well, whatever it is, it's a fine piece of work. The suit
seems to be made of some kind of special bulletproof fiber. Wearing it
should reduce all the damage you take by half. The waterproofing and
heat and moisture insulation are top-notch. Just having it on will
reduce the stamina you burn. It even increases your overall Camo
Index. You got yourself a keeper, Snake.

Snake: Yeah. Maybe we should make it the official uniform of FOX.

This one is cool, because he is actually wearing the Sneaking Suit in MGS PO.

NAOMI HUNTER MGS1!!!

Ok just two more!!!

-I Can't Smell (call The Boss during Virtuous Mission)

Boss: If you want to survive in the jungle, you're going to need to hone all
of your senses. An unnatural movement in the undergrowth, a tiny shadow
peeking out through the trees in the distance - always keep an eye out for any
signs of the enemy's presence. Your sense of hearing is equally important.
Visibility is poor in the jungle, so you've got to learn to pick up the
enemy's presence from the sounds you hear around you. Always be listening
for that one snap of a twig among the chirping of the birds and the babbling
of the brooks. Your sense of smell is also important. Body odor, sweat,
gunpowder, food... these faint smells wafting in the wind will tell you where
the enemy...

Snake: Uh, no.

Boss: No?

Snake: I can't smell.

Boss: You... what now?

Snake: I can't smell.

Boss: Not at all?

Snake: Nope.

Boss: Not even a little bit?

Snake: Not a thing.

Boss: Oh... well, then, you'll just have to trust in your instincts as a
gamer.

-Quack (call Para-Medic during Virtuous Mission)

Snake: Para-Medic.

Para-Medic: What's up?

Snake: Are you a medic, or a doctor?

Para-Medic: I'm a well-respected physician. Or I was, until I joined the CIA.

Snake: How was your reputation?

Para-Medic: My what?

Snake: Your reputation.

Para-Medic: Oh, that.

Snake: How was it?

Para-Medic: Why? Don't you trust me?

Snake: That's not what I meant.

Para-Medic: Fine, then.

Snake: Mm-hmm... So?

Para-Medic: So what?

Snake: Your reputation - how was it?

Para-Medic: My! You're relentless!

Snake: Hey, I'm a snake. So?

Para-Medic: My reputation was spotless. I'm highly skilled, patient, and good-
looking to boot. Everybody wanted to see me. What else would you expect?

Snake: ...

Para-Medic: No, seriously.

Zero: Incidentally, her nickname back then was "Quack."

Para-Medic: Major!

Snake: ...Is that true?

Para-Medic: Mm? Is what true?

Snake: About your nickname.

Para-Medic: No! ...Well, maybe a few people did call me that...

Snake: So you were a quack?

Para-Medic: No! ...Well, yes and no. I mean, in a sense I was, but then again
I wasn't...

Snake: ???

Zero: Snake, her skills as a doctor are beyond reproach. You have my word on
that.

Para-Medic: Yes! That's exactly what I was trying to say, Snake.

Snake: Then why did they call her "Quack"?

Zero: It's because she...

Para-Medic: Never mind that! It doesn't matter. We've got a job to do, and we
have to stay focused. Besides, my past doesn't have anything to do with the
mission and...

Snake: Because she never shuts up?

Zero: Yes, that's it.

Para-Medic: No, that's not it! Snake, tell him that's not true!

Snake: ...

Para-Medic: Say something!

Snake: I'd better get back to the mission.

Zero: Yes, you do that.

Para-Medic: Just a minute! Snake! Don't you hang up on me!

Did I leave any left to read? This is MGS3, of course I did, there's tons of this stuff!

OMG last one this one was just awesome hahaha!

-UMA (call Para-Medic when you reach Graniny Gorki South)

Para-Medic: Snake, there's supposed to be a tsuchinoko in that area.

Snake: Tsuchinoko?

Para-Medic: You've never heard of it? It's a mysterious snake that's found all
over Japan.

Snake: If it lives all over Japan, then why is it so mysterious?

Para-Medic: Many people have seen them, but no one's ever caught one. If you
do manage to catch one, it'll be a major historic discovery. I think you
should look for it!

Snake: If I have time. So what kind of snake is this "tsuchinoko?"

Para-Medic: The body is about as tick as a beer bottle, and the tail tapers
off to a point. It doesn't slither around like other snakes, but rather goes
in a straight line like an inchworm. Sometimes it even jumps several yards at
a time. It's got sinister looking eyes, and it can even blink and move its
eyes around. It's also been known to snore, cry, and stand straight up on its
tail.

Snake: And this is an actual snake?

Para-Medic: Of course.

Snake: Uh huh. Then how come you seem to know so much about them? Is it in
that guide of yours?

Para-Medic: No.

Snake: Then maybe you saw it in a movie, like "Curse of the 50-Foot
Tsuchinoko" or something.

Para-Medic: There's no such movie. I heard about it from Sigint.

Snake: Sigint?

Para-Medic: He's an expert on UMAs.

Snake: UMAs?

Para-Medic: Unidentified Mysterious Animals, dummy.

Snake: Oh, excuse my ignorance... Why does he know so much about them?

Para-Medic: Probably because he likes them. At the CIA, he was the vice
president of an unofficial group called the "UMA Watcher Club."

Snake: The UMA Watcher Club?

Para-Medic: Yeah. Just the other day he was working on a newsletter at his
desk.

Snake: At the office? How does he get away with that...?

Para-Medic: Well, the major is the chairman of the club.

-The Other Side (call Zero after defeating The Sorrow)

Zero: Snake.

Snake: ...

Zero: Snake!

Snake: Wh-what... oh, Major... What do you want?

Zero: What happened? You've been acting strangely ever since you were washed
down the river.

Snake: I'm fine.

Zero: I disagree.

Snake: Really?

Zero: Yes.

Snake: ...

Zero: Did something happen to you in that river?

Snake: No...

Zero: Don't lie, Snake. I'm trying to help you.

Snake: ...All right. But you might not believe me when I tell you.

Zero: I'll believe you. I trust you.

Snake: Okay, then. When I was in that river...

Zero: Yes?

Snake: I saw... the other side.

Zero: The other side?

Snake: Yeah.

Zero: ...And by the other side, you mean...?

Snake: Well, the world of the dead... I guess.

Zero: ...

Snake: And The Sorrow was there. He was sad... No, more than that. He said
that I was a part of his sorrow...

Zero: I...see... um, Snake, would you excuse me for a moment?

Snake: Huh? Sure...

Zero: Para-Medic, what in the hell is wrong with Snake?

Para-Medic: Beats me... Maybe he got a nasty bump on the head.

Zero: ...You really think that's all?

Para-Medic: What are you implying?

Snake: Major?

Para-Medic: I mean, he's always been a little bit... different... I thought
maybe...

Zero: Good point... I was just thinking that myself.

Snake: MAJOR!

Zero: Wh-what is it, Snake?

Snake: I can hear you.

Zero: !! W... well, in any case, I'm glad you're all right.

Para-Medic: Y...yeah. Me, too. It's good to see you're back to ah... normal.

Snake: ...

-Spirit (call Sigint while wearing Spirit camo)

Sigint: Eh? That's some bizarre camo you've got on, Snake...

Snake: It's spirit camo... I think it was a gift from The Sorrow.

Sigint: The Sorrow? But he's been... Man, I don't even want to know. Anyway,
that camouflage seems to have some kind of special power. While you're wearing
it and grab an enemy during CQC, you can drain stamina out of the enemy while
choking him. And you won't make a sound when you move around.

Snake: Sounds good.

Sigint: ...Tell me the truth. Did you really get that from The Sorrow?

Snake: Yeah.

Sigint: ...Hell, the major says he's been abducted by a UFO, so why not...?

Snake: ???

Ya, survive the Sorrow by getting to the end of the trail of the dead, you walk into a branch where his dead body is, instant 'death' and use revival tooth thing.

How do you get the alligator head though? I never got that in any of my many play throughs of the game.

I never could figure that one out. I killed an alligator in every imaginable way, and I still couldn't get its head.

I found it in my second playthrough, when I spent a lot of time looking everywhere for new stuff. I found that, a few more weapons and a lot of camo suits. And managed to watch a few more cutscenes.

I have to post this, it's proof of Ocelots heritage. I found it in the FAQ curryking1 linked to.

===

-Ocelot's Past (call Eva after fighting Ocelot)

Snake: Eva, I wanted to ask you about Ocelot...

Eva: Yeah, I know. He's pretty infatuated with you, isn't he?

Snake: That's not what I meant. Aren't the Ocelots an elite unit?

Eva: Yeah.

Snake: So how'd he get to be their commander? He can't be any older than 18 or
19. I can't believe he's already a major...

Eva: I heard from the Colonel that he's been given... special treatment.

Snake: Special treatment?

Eva: Yeah. He's the son of some legendary hero or something.

Snake: No wonder he seems to have the right stuff... So who is this legendary
hero anyway?

Eva: Beats me.

Snake: ...

Eva: The Colonel never told me. All I heard was that his mother was supposedly
shot in the gut during battle and that he was born right there with bullets
whizzing past them.

Snake: A pregnant woman in the middle of a battle?

Eva: That's what I heard. They say that when they stitched her up, the scar
was shaped like a snake.

Snake: Well, that's battlefield medicine for you. What about his father, this
legendary hero?

Eva: He didn't tell me. I don't think Ocelot's ever met his parents.

Snake: Are they dead?

Eva: Maybe. I don't know. There were a lot of MIA's back then, during the last
days of the war. Ocelot probably would have ended up the same way. But he was
taken in and raised by GRU and Volgin.

Snake: Because he was special?

Eva: That's my guess.

All the proof you need is that Ocelot is the Sorrow's son, which is why he has his capabilities as a medium for the dead and Liquid can still communicate through him just by being in his arm :-D

Anyways, I'll be watching the Snake Eater movie tonight (the bonus disc in the limited edition of Subsistence) as my refresher before PORTABLE OPS comes out tomorrow! W00T! Anybody else get that badass PSP case?

Long live the MGS4 thread! :cheers:Someone recommended him the latest "Starfish" album, but he misheard the band's name and he bought Starsailor's album by mistake. When he found out he bought the wrong one, he said he was glad some innocuous mistakes are committed from time to time since they lead to good discoveries, as he loved "Way to Fall" and would probably have never listened to that song otherwise ;)

I watched Subsistence last night and then listened to Way to fall today. It was then followed by Calling to the night, which is song played in the ending credits of MGS:PO.

And while watching Subsistence, I came to a realization. I think Granin played a HUGE part in shaping Big Boss. When you combine the 'loyal to the mission' from The Boss with Granin's speech, it almost seems like reinforcement. Regardless that Snake is an enemy, he is helping him because of the love that he has for his country. I was kind of drunk when watching so it might not be a full connection. I'll have to rewatch the cutscene in Demo Theatre.

LiquidEagle

That's very possible. I haven't beaten PO yet (stupid finals), but when Snake gives the first soldier you capture that lecture about loyalty, it certainly seems like there's some Granin in there too, whether Kojima intended it or not. Granin came out like a hero in MGS3, like he wanted to (except for the whole MG Rex thing, but we can forgive that :-p)

New MGS4 Rumor:

Kojima: no more back-to-the-wall for Snake?

Quite interesting. Xgrayninja posts in the IGN Boards what he claims are snippets of an interview between Gamepro and Hideo Kojima, but we can't seem to find the said interview at GamePro (exclusive to the GamePro mag, maybe?). According to one snippet, the centerfold-quality "back-to-the-wall" stealth pose Snake pulls in prior outings is gone. Hideo, elaborates:

(The signature Snake pose) rarely happens on the battlefield. Nobody is cool enough to hide like that. By eliminating this move, it's more like real life. Snake can hide behind something, then sneak a peek and shoot. There are more actions to it, and it's smoother that way.

There would have been some use for a back-to-the-wall, like, you know, up on a ledge only a foot's length in width, or when you're trying to squeeze through a gap as narrow as Snake is fat (which is to say, not at all). If all this is true, then we're wondering how Snake's gonna handle these situations. We could go over ALL the screenshots of MGS4 since it was first announced, to look for one instance of back-to-the-wall, but besides being time-consuming, it doesn't cover for the possibility that Kojima Productions might have changed or deleted that move since then.

Oh well, without a Gamepro mag to inspect, our own backs are against the wall on this one, and we're leaving it as a Rumor until we find confirmation. In the meantime, here are the other snippets of that Gamepro-Kojima interview. That some of these are confirmed adds legitimacy, but just to be sure, we'd like to see the real deal itself.

Story set against the backdrop of a full-blown World War III (Oh great, Philantrophy failed.)
Yes, we know Kojima misses rumble. What we haven't heard is that he's gone and asked Ken Kutaragi to bring it back.
Gunplay to be based, at least partially, "in the near-future world, and will only deviate for the sake of 'interesting game design'
(he says an example would be the remote controlled missile in MGS1 and #@%!1112#@%!).
" We don't know how this affects Ocelot's bullet-bouncing gunplay.
Run and gun = "you have to be prepared." Nothing on what to be prepared for, but we're betting a tidal wave of lead, high explosive, and Metal Gears.

Trade your gun mods with other gun mods, via online or through some other form of player-sharing.

Long cutscenes bringing you down? Hideo says that he didn't want to cut down on the cinemas on the previous games because the emotional impact would take a hit. But he hears 'ya. "This time, yes, I am thinking about making them shorter."

Game connectivity between MGS4 and MPO.

Working with the Cell (the PS3 chip, not Dead Cell)? "Overall, I think it is difficult, of course. But if it's easy and simple, then how can you differentiate from other games?... I think that the PS3 was difficult to work with...but so was the PS2."

Well, if you've got No Place To Hide but in broad daylight and with optical camouflage, what's the enemy's ability to find you? Kojima says the team's "adjusting" (that AI, we guess), but a safe bet is that if an enemy is scared crapless, he's gonna be too preoccupied to kick every stone on the street, but if he's calm, he's going to be more thorough in his search.

Finally, CQC or hand-to-hand. "hand-to-hand weapons play a big role in MGS4, but declines to elaborate because 'that gives away a little bit of how you complete the game, actually.'" Didn't every game in the series generally end with a hand-to-hand boss fight?

I will miss the camera angle that so many games stole... (if this rumor is true...)
It's good to hear that Kojima is willing to take chances with the last installment of the title. I can't wait to see some new info on the game come E3 2007.

Well, IGN is pretty legitimate, but some of this sounds like BS to me, too.
Especially the part about shorter cutscenes.

Now I really doubt the legitimacy of this.

IGN might be legitimate...but the IGN boards? lol. Don't think so. Little use for having your back to the wall in the battle field? Not if your a spy or a secret agent. Sounds like BS to me too.

Sounds kind of fishy....

Is the normal MGS top-down view gonna still be in the game? I'm gonna be a little uncomfortable with an MGS that doesn't have a top down view...

I liked in Subsistence for the single player that it let you on the fly choose between both types of cameras. But like if it's totally removed?

I'm just saying because the gameplay and level design of MGS's levels, you can easily tell they are made to be played with the MGS top down and cinematic, stylized camera angle. In some situations the third person camera angle is impossible and actually harder to use (for example, the part in MGS3 whenever it's a tight area, also the part before you reach the lab where you meet Granin with the multilevel stair complex, the MGS camera actually works better in those areas).

Another reason I ask is because in the last boss for MGS3 in Subsistence, it doesn't let you use the third person camera, and it's obvious, it would not be the same. The special computer controlled camera is sometimes frustrating (not often in the last level) but it makes for a different gameplay experience than if you did have control over the camera.

Maybe this is just me being nostalgic or not wanting to let go of the old camera or maybe just because it was mentioned no back to wall stuff (please don't do that, that would suck balls), but I think a scenario specific camera is a staple of the MGS series and should stay, and like Subsistence, let you go between each of them at the very least most of the time.

But honestly, after playing MGS1 so much lately, the fixed camera angles make for a truly unique experience and make it feel so... MGS.

^ You make a good point and hopefully Kojima does not stray too far from the proven MGS gameplay mechanics... In my opinion the primary core of MGS is the story and cut scenes I hope this aspect remains intact.

Honestly, I have no worries, because when has Kojima let us down?

LiquidEagle
12-31-2006, 12:31 AM
No flattening against a wall? That's the basis for the hide-and-seek that MGS was based off of. Since when did Kojima stop wanting Snake to look cool? He smoked a cigarette just before his truck got ambushed by tons of soldiers and he casually jumped off the truck in the middle of intense fire... that was pretty f'ing cool to me!
