I joined a very interesting experiment with National Geographic and IBM of trying to make a world gene map and how people moved throughout history.
a friend of mine and I were both shocked to find out where our genes come from. depending on the map they sent each of us, both of us came from two completely different continents. cool. weird, but cool.

[...]a friend of mine and I were both shocked to find out where our genes come from. depending on the map they sent each of us, both of us came from two completely different continents. cool. weird, but cool. Well yeah, gene flow isn't very clear cut. Most of us don't originate from one sub-population, we're just not that 'pure'. Those who are tend to live in very isolated populations (ie. forests, etc) and mate within their tribe, and therefore cannot adapt to foreign environments as effectively as the hybrid counterpart.
For example in Saudi Arabia, Y-chromosomes feature high frequency of J* (originated in Near East), even East African (E3b). Mating wasn't always that clear cut and foreigners mingled with the domestic population creating a very heterogenous make up.
Saudi Arabia isn't alone, Southern Europe has significant East African (E3b) and Near-Eastern admixture. It could be up to 30% for each group. Even US ethnic groups such as African-Americans, Native-Americans and European-Americans tend have a homogenous genetic make up. I often read journals where European or Native-Indian admixture in African-Americans can go up to 20%, Native-Americans have even higher level of European extraction and European Americans have been noted to have 0.7% African-American extraction (and probably higher for Native Americans) while the maxima could be demonstrated by this quote:
In a survey of college students who self-identified as “white” in a northeastern U.S. university, ~30% were estimated to have <90% European ancestry (Shriver et al. 2003). Link (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1275602)

screw any real life actor. I want a full length CG movie using the exact MGS4 in-game graphics. I don't know about you, but I am more than fine with that level of quality. it would make the movie much cheaper and faster to make as well. and no matter how much you look, MGS4 characters are the only ones that look like MGS4 characters.
LaLiLuLeLo
04-20-2007, 01:28 AM
Actually Z, computer graphics is more expensive than a live action movie. The more CG in a movie, the more the movie costs. Even if they use the established engine form any of those games, even 4, it'd cost a boat load. The more real life you can pull off and the less CG the more money saved. And if FFSW/in is any indication, realistic CG movies are a bust. Just creeps most people out.
rpgamer_2k5
04-20-2007, 04:01 AM
I'd take a CG film over a live action film but if Konami wants to this film reaching a greater audience then live action is the best.
Anyway I'm really not that concerned about an appropriate actor (heck, VG can be Snake, Z can be Raiden, Curry King could be Revolver Ocelot, etc ) but the director and producer should be (a) a fan of the series and (b) willing to actively develop this movie with Kojima Productions.
I really don't want to see the MGS movie going Resident Evil. O_O
curryking1
04-20-2007, 04:14 AM
^HHAHAHAH!!
Wait! Why do I have to be the bad guy! I wanted to be Rose.... :(
Liquid Ocelot or Ocelot is pretty cool though lol. Wasn't VG the one with the 'Ocelot' avatar lol ;)
And ya man, I totally hope Kojima is interested in some quality control here. Didn't we find out recently that Kojima is acting as the executive producer or co-producer on the movie though? I think I remember something like that, hopefully I'm right on this one. I think Kojima is going to try to keep MGS' pride in good check.
I'd personally want a CG film too, but I can really see a live action film being able to go for a more dramatic direction, which is more MGS' style I guess. If it was uber action like FF VII AC, then I'd say CG would be better.
Sephiroth_VII
04-20-2007, 06:56 AM
Yeah, I think Kojima will be overseeing the movie himself. Isn't this a dream come true for him?
curryking1
04-20-2007, 06:58 AM
^Maybe...
Well you can easily tell he is a director at heart, I mean the action cutscenes from MGS3 and 2, even 1, those scenes that are appropriate for movies, those are movie scenes but in the games of MGS1 2 and 3.
Namely... First time you meet Meryl, that's a movie scene. Snake and Eva being chased by GRU right before end game MGS3, that's a movie scene.
Kojima knows how to make movie scenes and can do it with ease. The only reason we ever see long cutscenes and codec is because a videogames is an interactive experience meant to actually make you feel like you're there and experiencing absolutely everything.
Kojima having a hand in the MGS movie can only make it better, nothing else.
I would definitely guess it's part of his dream also, to direct (or something similar to it, producers a big part) a movie.
P.S.
*Gets to the new page!*

You know, bringing up Liquid, I think Bale would be a better Liquid than he would Snake.
Actually Z, computer graphics is more expensive than a live action movie. The more CG in a movie, the more the movie costs. Even if they use the established engine form any of those games, even 4, it'd cost a boat load. The more real life you can pull off and the less CG the more money saved. I was talking in-game graphics compared to pre-rendered ones.
I'd take a CG film over a live action film but if Konami wants to this film reaching a greater audience then live action is the best.

I really don't want to see the MGS movie going Resident Evil. O_O
and there lies the problem; movie studios would want the project to reach as much fans as possible while neglecting actual fans of the game since most would already be sold to almost anything.
but on the other hand, they could really do a fanservice and make it true to the game. maybe not as many would watch it that don't know the game, but I don't see why that would deter them anyway.
I love what they did with the Silent Hill movie. to make a MGS movie, you have to have the series creator, directors, writers, composers, etc. have a major role in the production. look how fantastic the Silent Hill movie's music was because they used the actual series composer (one of the best sound tracks of any game in the industry, imo).
in fact, I would go as far as saying that Hollywood intervention should only be present in the fields that is unique to movie production that these game creators 'may' not be aware of or as capable.
PS. get that crazy director that made those equally crazy DMC3 cut-scenes!

Have it your way but Z has to be Raiden! Its pretty obvious that Z is a Raiden type of individual. :queer:
hehe, I was- and still am- for the 'old' Raiden. but after the unbelieveable Cyborg Ninja act in MGS4, I am all over him. it is amazing how much a few Cyborg Ninja moves, Shinkawa design and change in voice acting can do to your image. ;)

Nah, I'd probably connect with Raiden the most. I always design tight chitinous armor and if I was in that situation, I'd be all admiring how badass snake is and just trying to be as cool as him, being confused, and nagged to death by my girlfriend/fiance who won't shut the hell up, but it turns out I'm really badass and have been fighting in wars since I was 8. I hope they somehow include both cameras as well. I don't want to lose what the classic MGS camera offers.
MGS4 might take the track of losing it though, just like there is no more famous 'Snake back to wall' pose. MGS4 is apparently going for 'real war zone' so I can see it not being there anymore, as much as I want it to return.
I will never stop arguing however for the idea that sometimes fixed/panning/zooming developer placed camera angles provide a game with a flavour that a free 3rd person camera cannot emulate. For example, you cannot move back and forth inbetween a 2D sidescroller gameplay and more 3D gameplay. Without developer fixed camera angles, a lot of things in the MGS2 boss fights (namely fighting the Harrier and Metal Gear Rays, Fortune) would have been much more difficult to play if there was only the third person camera view. The fixed angle in the Ray battle gave a very great view of the action, and in the Harrier battle, the action switched from different focal points by changing the camera angle. Harrier launching onslaughts of missiles? Change to widescreen view of bridge. Go down to lower bridge level to avoid machine gun from Harrier? Camera angle switched to give a cinematic view of the Harrier firing at you while you hide from it.
Fixed camera angles provide experiences unlike third person camera angles, and vice versa.
Here's to hoping both are included and strengths of both are used. This is not to say I will not understand a situation where it simply makes sense for the traditional MGS camera not to return, because the gameplay could very well warrant that.

good post +R power
that why i love that classic MGS camera , on MGSPO i have hard time with 3rd person view , Fixed camera angles is the best for me .
maybe the only advantages for 3rd person cam is for outdoor places like big flat battlefield , but not indoor .

that would include PS2 gamers and MGS fans that didn't/couldn't get the Subsistence special edition. lighten up a little. we're only talking about games.:birthday:
I watched the 15 minute trailer last night a few times and it got me thinking a little bit. Kojima reveals next to nothing in his trailers and what he does reveal makes us think the opposite of what the actual game is about.
After Snake gets into the chopper with Oct. and Col., the Colonel says "we've found him' and what not, but he does not mention a name. Then the camera changes to a different angle and focuses on Oct. and he mentions Liquid. I wonder, could the Colonel be refering to Raiden, maybe? I'm not standing behind this theory because I'm pretty sure it's wrong and Kojima has something more interesting planned.
curryking1
04-26-2007, 03:48 AM
We've found Raiden? Why would we be looking for Raiden lol!
I'm semi joking btw hahha, but I'm totally on the same page. Kojima does do that stuff where it's like "I tell you this way, but I go that way!"
And then he smiles and gives us one heck of a videogame experience and then we say "Oh silly Kojima, look wut he did."
But also.. to continue on the 'We've found him' talk. Yes.. it's very curious to exactly who he is talking about. It could be Ocelot if there's no trick behind this, but it might be someone else totally different! Crazy stuff.
I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess it's some character we haven't met yet, but who knows. I'm putting 50-50 on Ocelot or someone we don't know. Actually scratch that.... maybe they are just going to meet some past allies or find some people to recruit or..
Ok... I'm done thinking about this.. it's pointless hhhahaha..
P.S. Is anyone else hoping there might be some PO style recruiting and battling along with other people in both SP and MP? I want to make my Foxhound unit dammit!!!
Nameless
04-26-2007, 03:53 AM
I can't wait to see some new footage on this title.
I guess we will have to wait for E3 or TGS...
Actually, I just rewatched it now and would like to reverse what I said. But just the way that it is worded, where the Colonel mentions "we've found him, you need to stop him" and then Oct. says "liquid has made his move" makes me think otherwise.
But really, this game can't come out soon enough. I just hope that by the time it is released that rumble is supported and back into the games.

Man, I didn't know people were still into THPS that much. It's still solid, but it's been going downhill since after 4 for sure. That game is getting waaay old, same gameplay over and over again.... sheesh! Activision is really working to get the most out of staying as unoriginal as long as possible with that one.
I can't wait to see what the graphics look like since Kojima has had time to polish them.
Kojima doesn't make graphics. He makes nice stories and directs and oversees. Don't be like the NBA people where they blame everything on T-Mac when the Rockets lose. T-Mac isn't the whole team. Kojima is one part, a superstar, but he's on a team still. The credit for graphics or complaining about them isn't really supposed to go towards him.

Announced was 2007, so most are thinking that meant Q4 2007.
I think the range we are expecting it, right now before anything is announced at E3 or whatever, is something between Q4 07 and Q2 2008 at the latest.

^^Ya, I actually find it annoying when a release date by a retail store is brought up lol (not to be rude to jej though). It's just that publishers won't care to release it to them anymore than they would to us, so they will know as much as we do.
And then they'll change their dates so they can accept more preorders from people and stuff like that, put it earlier, later, change over and over because many people won't know why it keeps changing or where to find out when the date is finally fixed. They don't care if it's 50% chance this year and 50% next year. It's like the weather. Who the hell wants to listen to a guy say 'it might be cloudy or sunny tomorrow, 50-50 chance?'
^NO! I want to play MGS4 ASAP!!! XD
You're right though lol, there's a really solid lineup until mid 08 with titles that are announced to be released until then as well as so many more that might turn up in the same time frame. I'm thinking The Getaway will be out before or during early 08, hopefully also be more polished lol. Maybe even Eight Days if it ends up being good, and KZ too if we're super lucky. Then there's R&C and... *wanders off into twilight talking to self*

I don't care how long it takes for them to make MGS4.
I don't care one tiny bit if it takes until 2010!
As long as they exceed the graphics quality that they have produced so far (like Kojima promised us) and do everything else it takes to make a top notch game (storyline, game play, lots of content, animation, physics, etc).

May 14, 2007 - The one question that fans have consistently asked us ever since the news broke that Konami and Sony Pictures were teaming to turn the videogame Metal Gear Solid into a feature film is whether screenwriter-actor David Hayter would be involved with the project. Hayter voiced the game's protagonist, Solid Snake.
Now IGN can exclusively report that Hayter will not be a part of the film. We have confirmed that Hayter pitched his take on the project to Konami but they have opted not to hire him to script and/or produce it. Hayter even penned a treatment for the proposed big-screen version but, alas, the powers-that-be passed on it.
An insider who has read Hayter's treatment advised us that his take was "Metal Gear as the Apocalypse Now of the digital age, with Snake at the center of a swirling whirlpool of Genomic/military madness."
Since voicing Solid Snake, Hayter has carved out a second career for himself as a screenwriter, beginning with Bryan Singer's X-Men. His screenplay adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel Watchmen is being revised by Alex Tse and director Zack Snyder for the long-in-development feature film.

Though I do also like the voice actor for Japanese dubbed game.

If Kojima has anything to do with the directions and production I won't be as worried but so far he hasn't said a thing which makes me think its going to be another horrific game to movie translation. I really don't wanna see the image of MGS ruined by a bad movie.

I feel kind of sad he won't be involved... I'd like him to at least be helping creatively in some way, he can surely have good things to add and comment on. He's far from a bad script writer and he's been with MGS for as long as... since life started! lol :P Ok not that long but whatevers. He should had some creative role or at least some advisory role, I mean, come on, he is the voice of Snake (and more, but he really is Snake's voice, period, exclamation mark).
^Neither do I.. neither do I..... it would really mar it's value to me. Not that it would 'make my level of love' for MGS go down, but it would certainly leave a scar or at least a bad after taste. I'm pretty sure we saw something about Kojima being involved with the movie, I vaguely remember it as him being an executive on the project, some quality control kind of role IIRC. I hope that is true as well.

I personally would much rather see a CG movie with real voice cast then a shitty real spinoff movie. I Can't think of ANYONE that can play snake in a movie, not to mention that even if there is someone...thats only half way there. Snakes voice was just about half of what made him awesome. Hayter is Snake...without him doing the voice, they will NOT find anyone as good...I doubt they can find anyone even close.

David Hayter not being involved in the movie is a GOOD thing people. Christ, he thought The Boss was Snakes mother...
A voice actor should stick to just that and leave the directing to Kojima and whoever else Sony has working with him. The actor they choose I'm sure will do a good enough job to overshadow the fact that he doesn't sound EXACTLY like Snake.

Bale, while I agree is perfect, just can't do it. He is already Batman...for that reason alone I can see him not being Snake. As a matter of fact I see Snake being played by some random no-name actor that simply fits the role very well. Don't expect some big name like Bale playing Snake.

I would go for a mixture of:
a) Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X)
b) Sylvester Stallone/Wesley Snipes (Demolition Man, Rambo)
c) Sean Connery (The Rock)
Not from the look really, but the mixture of all those characters sort of defines Snake for me, especially b) (one of my all time favourite movies).

I don't think anyone cares about that. But PS3 is a beast, Kojima, do your magic on the hardware, and worry about X360 later because all your fans are mostly PS fans...
Not too much to ask, either way, I think we'll get the MGS4 we want...
In fact, I think that's what most of us really want for PS3 games. Just for PS3 to be the base platform and taking advantage of the new hardware as far as you can...

I will injure someone if MGS4 is not exclusive. Honestly, I don't care about a lot of games being multiplat.... like GTA IV still looks great, MOH looks god damn amazing, NBA 2K is still my favourite basketball game, as is NBA Street.
But when you mess around with my MGS or my FF and make them not exclusive so they can't be built to last on one piece of hardware, I'm coming a knocking.... Don't take my MGS or FF experience and degrade them to something less than what they could've been and expect me not to go buck wild.....
I will go to Japan and slap the head of Konami, I will do it (If I had time.. .ok I wouldn't... but I'd really, really want to...)
There's some things they can mess with.. but then there's those things you can't.... please don't....
