Kojima also revealed that the intro sequence for MGS4 will be done by Logan, replacing Kyle Cooper who worked on the previous two installments. The intro sequence of MGS3 let users control the screen, but according to Kojima, MGS4 is going to be even better and startling. "The customer-service phone line is going to be flooded with calls, and I'm going to get fired," joked Kojima.

Whatever the intro will be like, Kojima's idea behind it was big enough to even get developers jumping out of their seats. According to MGS4 codirector Shuyou Murata, "I totally flipped out when I heard about it. It's going to be like a promotional video, but there's going to be more to it."

Logan's Alex Tylevich was tight about releasing any details, but he gave some first hints, commenting, "It's going to be highly unusual for a video game opening. It's going to be very futuristic."

Minds will be blown, people. As if the gameplay & story wasn't enough, even this game's opening TITLES are going to be just incredible!!!

It's not close enough to be plagiarism, not at all, and VG, I think you mean the MGS1/MGS2 theme, not MGS2/MGS3... The MGS theme that allegedly copies from this classical/traditional piece (it definitely has some similarity) was used in the early trailers for MGS1 that you can unlock in VR Missions.

Reading the analysis of MGS2 I thought to myself, "I wish more gaming journalism was written with this same intellectual approach". While I disagree with a fair amount of his ideas (mostly centering around the severity and meaning of the deterioration of formal elements at the end) the fact that he goes through the plot so clearly and concisely with a compelling argument gives me hope for the future of gaming, in more ways then one.

High Street retailer HMV has admitted a pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the Xbox 360 was a mistake by its online admin team, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.

The listing caused a stir over the weekend, with websites and forums assuming it was evidence that the anticipated PlayStation 3 title was no longer a Sony exclusive.

"In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform," admitted the retailer to GamesIndustry.biz

"We're sorry to have caused such a stir - the oversight has now been corrected."

I don't know what "spoling" means to you all, but all MGS trailers spoil way too much to me.

Even though we know that MGS4 will have many surprises up its sleeve that aren't going to be revealed in any trailer, there's still too much information in all of the trailers so far, even if some or portions of them are just teasers. The trailers aren't exactly short and some of then contain nearly full cutscenes and you can tell that the off voice acting reveals some plot points from different moments in the game.

MGS2's first trailer is quite a bad example. Although far from unveiling everything MGS2 was about, you got to see most of the new gameplay features, the entire tanker environment, Ocelot, Olga, etc. Even the freakin' Metal Gear Ray was there. How much can you NOT spoil in 9 minutes of footage?

I only watched MGS3's teaser trailer and refrained from watching anything else until I finished it. I'm immensely glad I did and I'm sad that I haven't been able to resist watching MGS4 trailers :( Some MGS3 trailers just unveiled too many characters and plot points, even though there was deceiving stuff.

MGS2's first trailer is quite a bad example. Although far from unveiling everything MGS2 was about, you got to see most of the new gameplay features, the entire tanker environment, Ocelot, Olga, etc. Even the freakin' Metal Gear Ray was there. How much can you NOT spoil in 9 minutes of footage?

I can answer that with a simple question: Was Raiden ever in that trailer??

MGS trailers are made by Kojima to build expectations that you'll probably be better off having when you go into the actual game, and MGS2's trailers especially were deceitful and the world had NO IDEA we would be seeing many of the scenarios of the E3 2001 trailer through the eyes of Raiden, not Snake, and Snake's battle with the Harrier didn't even happen.

The trailers are there for fans (like us) to get excited and Kojima never lets anything slip that he doesn't want us to know, and that's always about 10% of what we'll actually see in the final game. Considering how little we know about the actual story arc of MGS4, and its environments, the motives of all the characters, and so on, it's far from being even remotely spoiled.

But everything we have seen so far for mgs4 hasnt spoiled a thing. at most it tells us which characters are in it. and that raiden and vamp have a showdown. we havent seen anything on a metal gear (like rex or ray) we havent seen anything on raidens changed to ninja type thing, we havent seen what the relationship is like between meryl and snake. we dont know whose tombstone snake was looking at, we dont know the true extent of the pmc control, we havent seen all the locations snake will be going to, we havent seen any bosees or hints at bosses (cept maybe vamp and liquid ocelot) we dont kow if snake will survive, we dont know how EVA will work into the story. and there is ALOT more things i could name that we know nothing about.

That's actually true. The trailers have introduced us to many things, just we don't look at them very focused because we're used to the idea already.

That everyone has Metal Gear and everyone is kicking the crap out of each other, it's turned into Outer Heaven, the battlefield is controlled, Metal Gears are not only giant bipedal robots but are various sizes, even as small as the MKII thing, Metal Gears function as various parts of war

Those are only a few of the ideas introduced. Playing MGS4 without seeing the trailers and these ideas would be thrust upon you, you wouldn't see all of that coming, or in that way.

The trailers do reveal stuff, they are setting the tone for how those of us who have seen the trailers.

P.S. Raiden wasn't the only thing in MGS2, just because we didn't see him. There's a lot of other stuff from the trailer and screens. Those that didn't look into MGS2 wouldn't have seen some of the new faces, and would've seen their faces for the first time during the game.

and okay there has been a few things revieled like the new outerheaven and such. But again :P if you dont want to spoil it, dont watch the clips and if you do watch them dont start crying because it spoils things for you.

and the spoiler you wrote curry is just an assumption. we dont know that everyone has the MGmkII we have only seen one, used by otacon. im not saying you are wrong, but you cant possibly know EVERYONE has a metal gear. only Kojima knows this. and everyone fighting each other doesnt make it outer heaven. in the original 15min clip cambell says that there are 5 PMCs all being controlled by a company named outer heaven. and as far as i can tell there is only confict and thats between the PMCs (being ran by liqiud ocelot) and the militia, this is taking place in the middle east most likely because the Militia dont like outer heaven stepping onto their turf. note what i said "as far as i can tell" because its all we have been shown, we havent seen the fighting in 2 out of the 3 areas snake is meant to be going to. All we have seen that would be 'spoiling' in my book is: naomi with LO (but we dont know whats going on there), raiden in his suit (but we dont know what happened to him for him to be put in the suit) and snake nearing his end (which is still not 100% sure)

Rapture and i were talking about this a week or so back.

I wouldnt want snake to die in battle, to die from fighting someone else. he has come this far kicking the crap out of eveyone and evything that stood in his way he's been fighting for years and it doesnt seem a fitting end for him to be defeated. and that exactly what it would be to him. If snake dies while fighting and killing liquid then that IS defeat in snakes eyes. you really want our hero defeated? i sure dont. I know its a morbid thought but i would love more than anything to have snake shoot himself.

He would be completing his mission and ending his suffering at the same time. Im a fan of joss whedon so i like depressive endings :P (hence why i love MGS3s ending) I would rather snake kill or defeat everyone he was sent to kill, take down outer heaven for the last time and finally end the conflict with liquid. Then he is left with nothing, no reason to fight, no more missions to fulfil and no more battles to fight. Our hero would have no cause anymore therefore he would end his life. 1: To erase the MEME and do it before foxdie kills him. and 2: because all snake knows is battle and if he gets to the end alive with nothing or no-one left to fight, he would simply kill himself and be free from the battle field.

The latest reports out of Konami reveals the rather exciting news that Hideo Kojima will be in attendance at GC 2007 in Leipzig later this month, to demonstrate Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and even reveal new "key plot points", as well as "exciting news about forthcoming Metal Gear projects from Kojima Productions."

I guess VG may want to look away since I don't think he would want "key plot points" spoiled, but I know I'll definately be tuning in!

I'm thinking something happened to Raiden in combat, but I'm still on the fence as to whether it happens during MGS4 or before it. When he's infiltrating with "FOX-HOUND" alongside Meryl, he's unaffected by the "it" Liquid/Ocelot activates in the nanomachines, and I'm pretty sure Ninja Raiden would have nanomachines (or something internally that would be disrupted by "it"), so I'm thinking he's normal during that part, but somewhere between the Middle East (which seems to be the first location) and South America (which seems to be after the Middle East, of course), he is changed.

I know there's footage of Ninja Raiden in the E3 '06 trailer taking down Gekkous in the Middle East, but it's just a trailer :-p

Kojima said that the E3 trailer actually contained locations outside the Middle East, only that they intentionally made it all look like everything happened in the same place.

As for Raiden, assuming that guy truly is Raiden (yeah, whatever Ryan said), the fact he's unaffected by the nanomachines might have something to do with the fact that his body is just different already. I'm not sure how "normal" he is by then. Why would Meryl, Ed and Jonathan have nanomachines and he wouldn't, or why something that would affect everyone (except Liquid Ocelot and Naomi) wouldn't affect him?

He performed a seppuku (or hara-kiri) like move just to hit Vamp through his own Ninja body and he didn't seem critically affected by any of what would have been otherwise fatal wounds. There might be a chance that Raiden doesn't feel much physical pain anymore.

And did you notice that Vamp seems to be able to dislocate his joints? Check the sound when he dodges Raiden's HFB.

Well, Raidens nanomachines were originally inserted by the Patriots before MGS2, so since Liquid Ocelot is on their side now, that could explain it.

Also, remember that, after he became the Ninja, all of his blood was replaced with a white liquid, which I'm prettty sure would also contain nanomachines, but not made by the Patriots.

Star Tropics on the NES did that. You had to enter a frequency to start up a submarine. It told you to take the letter from your uncle and dip it in water to reveal the code. I was like, "You want me to fucking do what? There is no letter in my item menu." Then I remember this piece of paper attached to the instruction booklet. It was a letter from his uncle. Wet the paper and the frequency appeared. My jaw dropped.

I'd like to see more interactive stuff like that and given the popularity of the Internet a clever developer could really take that idea up a notch. Such as you find a web address so you go online and a flash video plays similarly to a cut scene in the game. It either gives you the password of a puzzle you must solve (like those movie viral marketing sites).

Mortal Kombat had game codes shown in the credits for MKIII. Not as cool still something.
